Second Carver pre so now it's member time.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,
As the title states I just acquired my second Carver preamp so I guess it is time to stop lurking and start posting. My name is Ben, I live in Northern California, and I have been into audio and video since I was in high school. Currently my main system is a HT / 2 channel configuration in a converted bedroom and can be seen here along with a smaller home theater set up in my living room. I bought a CT Seven back in May and discovered this site when searching for a manual. Then after some more reading here I started my hunt for a C-1 in that never ending quest that we all do. After some more reading it has come to my attention that a mod or two, or three, are what stands between me and true audio bliss. So I ask for some assistance in obtaining these mods from the all knowing members of this fine forum as follows;

Who does these wonderful mods?
What does it cost?
Where are these mod masters?
How do I contact these sonic wizards?
I already know the why.

Any and all assistance will greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your help

Outstanding !  Welcome!  Great pics.  You are on the way to a long OCCD journey.

The wizards will respond shortly... Cool

...now that you posted your system - you'll need to add an Avatar for your profile..., anything will do - but I'm thinking that "mr peanut" statue or perhaps the Yoda poster.

Hoping you stay in the forum for a while - and share your journey...

Ha!!

I love this part.

The guys here do these mods.  Sometimes it takes a couple months to get on a list.  But it gives you time to let us tempt you with other shit!!
Cost?  Not nearly enough.
Who are they?  The titles of the repair team are in red.  There is a thread with specialties, it will probably be unlocked to you after a few posts......
You can contact them directly through the PM button, usually after a few posts to prove to mods you're not some kind of spambot.

Welcome to Carversite.  The fun is just beginning......

Howdy Ben and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the link to your system pix. That's quite a collection. msp_thumbup.gif

I see almost all of your gear is black so I suggest you consider a BillD-modified C-11.
The C-11 is an "end-state" C-1 with a black face and all the service bulletins installed.

Thanks zumbini,

I'm not to worried by the color plus the C-1 is already on the way. I'm hoping that I will see, or hear that is, a noticeable difference from my CT Seven.

Hi Ben. Welcome to "Carverville" !!!!   emteeth.gif

If you spend some time in the Pre-Amp Modifications section of the forum, you will see several stickys about the C-1.

You should spend a few minutes reading in there to decide what mods you might think you want to have done on your C-1. From what you have said so far, the "BillD" mod is a must and a given.

I am one of the guys here who likes to tinker and my personal specialty is the C-1, so after you decide what you want to have done I would be happy to discuss getting it done for you.

One warning though - I have two people ahead of you for BillD / remote mods, so it might take a bit of time. I have a "regular" full time career so this stuff is done in my "down" time.

Thanks for sharing your system - stick around. A better compilation of humans enjoying a common theme cannot be found anywhere. I am happy to be a member here.

....I'm hoping that I will see, or hear that is, a noticeable difference from my CT Seven....
About 5 years ago I picked up a CT-Seven to replace a stock C-1 because I thought I needed remote capability.
I found the CT-Seven to be a good preamp/tuner (and a handsome component) but it was no match for the C-1.
My BillD-modified C-11 blows both of them out of the water with a vanishingly low noise floor, and improved soundstage.

I still own a CT-Seven but it has been relegated to my teenage son's system. (His main source is an Ipod.)

Thank you for the offer Brian, I'll be more than happy to wait in line so put me down as the third and thanks for all your time and effort. I will get started on reading the Pre-Amp Mod thread. I definitely want the BillD mod and probably the SH one as well but I'll do my homework and figure out a plan. This my second day as a member on the Carver site and already I can tell this is a great place.

We like all kinds of beer & gear here, Ben, although OCCD may steal away from the beer budget. I like the CT-Seven just fine, quite a bit actually,  it's an original owner purchase. Couldn't pass up a C-3 at a going out of business sale. Recently a C1BillD came by way of GeneC's closet sale. I think of mods/upgrades as investments in future longevity & health, both of the system and the listener. Enjoy the music!
