Dennis- It's nice sounding early jazz with a bit of ragtime component to the songs.  Apparently a local sensation during their time; if you can't read the back cover, it says he started his band in Oakland at Victor & Roxies, and then headlined at the Rancho Grande Nightclub in Lafayette for many years (gone now but a stone's throw from where I live). 10" LP's, I also picked up Vol 3-

Oddly, no James Brown vocals on that record! I think this record was his response to the Famous Flames sans Bobby Byrd walking out on him; his new band ("the James Brown band") being given his spotlight.
