winterluver 8 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Has anyone on here have had money taken from James Sauter at carveraudio.com I sent him my core and $500 June 11 2014 and he said for a year he was having trouble locating materials and for the last year will not return e mails. Did not want to go down this road but he has my money and core. Thanks, Rob
aslan7 954 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 You are just too impatient Rob only giving him two years. ;-) Seriously though, I hope something hasn't happened to him healthwise. Don't know him personally but I can't imagine he would go on a forum and cheat people out of money. There is an individual here in Pittsburgh who fixes carver audio components. Apparently he has had some serious health issues and folks are waiting for their equipment. I wonder if it's the same individual.
PMAT 2,042 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Nope, diff thing altogether. Sorry Winterluver, there may be others, don't know.
weitrhino 1,443 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 His signature line used to read: "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care." 21 months seems an unreasonably long time to wait for a repair or refund and return of your ribbon. Gather all your documentation and file for a judgement against him. It's this kind of unconscionable behavior that drove me from his site and planted the seeds of CarverSite.
dazed_and_confused 194 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I had a set of Plats with a buzzing ribbon and agonized over sending them off to be repaired....there were one or two less than satisfied customers who were starting to come out of the woodwork and voice their discontent with the service/treatment received, so in the end I made the painful decision to dump my speakers for pennies and walk away. I miss them, but I sense I would probably never have got them back up and running via the guy in FL. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope you can get it resolved. 1
Carlton8000 100 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 There is a gentleman on Ebay that has been advertising Carver Ribbon repair for a while and I was wondering if anyone has any feedback they can share on his work?
UncleMeat 1,173 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 For a long time it has been kapton availability from vendors who are willing to make the ribbons at a reasonable cost. I'm trying to develop a DIY way to replace the ribbon, but a suitable donor ribbon that is damaged is needed. Cuda said he would send a piece of ribbon from his failed 60" ribbon. Once I get that I can start working on a way to make the kapton ribbons.
sea 675 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 There is a gentleman on Ebay that has been advertising Carver Ribbon repair for a while and I was wondering if anyone has any feedback they can share on his work? I spoke to him at length a month or two ago. So far he had not sold any repair services. I tried to encourage him to reach out to the forums to gain some credibility but he did not seem to see the need.
aslan7 954 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Thanks for reaching out to him Sea. Did he say why? My ribbons are perfectly running on all cylinders but it would be nice to have options if they begin to misfire someday.

I told him that I thought his pricing might not be so far out of line but that people would be skeptical given no outside information or reviews of the service. It is basically an unknown quantity.
winterluver 8 Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Well if I had a core, I would give it a try.....couldn't be worse than I got in Florida!!
aslan7 954 Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Thanks sea. You're right. Even if he just posted his name and number as well as a background introduction--that would certainly help get the ball rolling in the right direction. Thank you for planting the seed. Maybe it will happen someday.
