GDKZ 22 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Hi Everyone, I am new fan of Carver electronics after picking up a TFM-55x amplifier second hand. After researching Carver I love the quality of the builds and the community surrounding it. My interest started with a purchase of an Audio Technica turntable to which I have started experimenting with receivers and amplifiers for my vintage home system. Admittedly have a lot to learn! Sk1Bum 11,411 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Hi Greg and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us! Once you get to Novice status, please consider posting some pics of you system in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of stereo and home theater gear. 2
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 @GDKZ Welcome to the Carver Site!! Love the great acquisition of the TFM-55X and that you spin some vinyl records. I myself have two 35s and three 15s in my system. That 55X might get lonely and need another 55X to share the duties. Only a suggestion 🙂. Looking forward to hearing more on your Carver and Audio journey! Enjoy! 2
GDKZ 22 Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 @BobTFM35 Thank you! I have yet to hookup my TFM-55x as I purchased it un-Tested and soon realized its missing the fuse holder on the back. I am working on sourcing one of those, but not much luck yet. Regardless, I can't get over the build quality of Carver products and all the positive feedback on them! I am now looking at a Carver Receiver to replace my current Pioneer SX-201 paired with a couple of Yamaha NS-A180 speakers. Yeah, I didn't start off with a plan and my wife always knows I need two of everything!!! Thanks! 1
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 You are welcome! Is it the entire fuse holder or just the screw off cap? 1
Receiver2000 4,017 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Welcome Greg!!!! Good to have you with us. That 55 is going to rock!!!! 2
GDKZ 22 Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 @BobTFM35 the fuse socket is there on the back but nothing else. I am assuming both but not entirely sure????? 1
GDKZ 22 Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 @Receiver2000 I am so looking forward to it! I know I have a lot to learn but I have been having a blast so far! Thx! 1
Maddmaster 1,001 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Welcome. Sounds like the fuse and cap are missing unless there's just an empty hole in the frame? 2
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I think the TFM 35 takes a TN032c which looks somewhat the same as the 55. Possibly on the barrel that is attached should be some part number markings to give a hint to the style. Something like the FH043 that's stamped on this holder. This is not what is on the 35 as I can't find a representative picture. 2
Receiver2000 4,017 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I have a TFM35 and there is no markings on the holder but the fuse type is labeled. 2
GDKZ 22 Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to this forum!!! 1
GDKZ 22 Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 Here is an image of the missing fuse holder/cap from the TFM-55x. From my searches I assume there isn't any stock readily available for such items, just parted off other units??? Thanks! 1 1
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Thanks for that shot. Do you happen to have one of the inside portion of the holder. I think we might be talking about this type of fuse holder so compare this to yours. My thinking is that the gray portion might be a direct fit into your holder. https://www.ebay.com/itm/151152195191? 1
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 My basis is from a Bussmann technical data sheet. Disregard the model number shown what is of interest is downloading the documentation lower down on the page. From the documentation I'm thinking and going with a guess, its a HTB-3 or 9x. But I somewhat feel that the gray part is common to possibly both. Only someone with a 55x can confirm this. The link for the document is on the left side below the picture. https://www.tme.com/us/en-us/details/bk-htb-92i-r/panel-mount-fuseholders/eaton-bussmann/ 1
GDKZ 22 Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 Ok, just removed the case and here is the image of the back of the fuse holder. 3
BobTFM35 2,767 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 I think I am close knowing, but without a part number to help confirm, it would be a shot to get it correct. Need to know if its a 1/4" x 1-1/4", or 5mm x 20mm fuse that fits in the existing body that is shown. I'm hoping that someone comes along that can better help with this. 1
GDKZ 22 Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 @BobTFM35 you have been most welcoming and helpful!! I'll continue to follow up on the information provided! I can't thank you enough! Looking forward to learning more! Thank you again! 2
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,455 Posted September 25, 2024 Community Admin Posted September 25, 2024 Welcome, @GDKZ, so glad you found us. And you have found the right place. On your fuse issue..., the sad/bad news is that it is unlikely to find a replacement cap for an existing fuse holder..., the manufacturers have variations beyond belief..., I know..., I've had that issue before - and replaced the whole unit (internal and cap) in every case. The caps from one maker to the next, don't cross-fit, and even from one maker's production run to another run..., they don't fit. I've even seen different housings/caps on the same model of Carver amps, so the cap from one amp model x, won't fit another same model x amp. They are easy to replace..., easy solder job - just take your time. Again, glad you found us! Lots to learn here. Start a thread on your repair! include lots of pictures..., we love pictures. 1 3
GDKZ 22 Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 @AndrewJohn thanks for the welcome and guidance!!!!! I'll start documenting my repair!!! 2
