Moz 11 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Hello Everyone, I love my amp the a760x. I am looking for a better preamp for it. I am running a Parasound zPre2 to a mirage sub and Wharfedale evo 4.2s. Any suggestions? My budget is up to 2k. 7
Daddyjt 9,065 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) Welcome aboard. Are you using the system for music, movies or both? Are you looking for a remote? Phono stage? Edited January 3 by Daddyjt
Moz 11 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 (edited) Thank you. I am using it for both. It doesn't really matter if the preamp has a phono stage as I already have a phono preamp. I am looking for something with at least 4 analog inputs and good sound quality. The Emotiva Basx Pt2 is one I am considering but really interested in what people here are using as a preamp in their systems and if they would recommend anything. I am also wondering if anyone uses a tube preamp and if they like it. Edited January 4 by Moz misspelling 3
Sk1Bum 10,617 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Hello Moz, and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us. I'll be the first of probably several to recommend: Carver 4000t or C4000 Carver C-1 or C-11 Carver C-19 I have a 4000t modified by one of our members, @Bonzoro, and it is awesome! I have a C-1 with the BillD modifications done by one of our members, @Daddyjt, and it is equally as awesome! I have a C-11 that hasn't been modified, and it is very good. I don't have a C-19, but it's on my wish list. All of these will fit in your stated budget with quite a bit of change left over. The mods will put the 4000t and C-1/C-11 on an equal playing field with preamps cost at least 3x the price. I hope that helps, and again, welcome aboard.
Moz 11 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Thanks for the information Sk1Bum. They all have inputs galore! I will dive deeper into them. I see your point about the affordability of them too. Is there a marketplace on this site? 1

Yamacarver 733 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Welcome I would give one of these a listen: https://tenoctaveaudio.com/wp/
Nahash5150 10,362 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I happen to have a B & K avr 507 and a Sunfire TGP for sale. Both in mint condition, and both are amazing, as long as you don't mind they don't have HDMI. 1
Kurt 2,324 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Welcome to the Carver site! I have C1, C4000, and CT-7 preamps. The C1 has the BIllD mods and it is dead quiet. It's like it's not even there. Amazing really. I use it in my main rig, with 2 m1.5t's and Infinity Kappa 8 speakers. The C4000 has been refurbished though it still has some nascent "leakage" into the left channel at zero volume, but sounds great with volume up. It has a Gundry filter installed as part of the Sonic Holography, which I like better than the straight up Sonic Holography. I use it with my RAM285 tube amp and, really, it's my best sounding system overall. I also have a CT-7 which has not been refurbished at all. It sounds great and is convenient with the remote that comes with it. I use it in my garage setup, as I have it up high and somewhat inconvenient to reach. For some reason, I don't like the phono stage on it as much as the other two.....again, it could just be in need of refurbishment.
Moz 11 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Thanks for the help guys, if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.
BobTFM35 2,417 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Welcome!! Two models come to mind as candidates for your control center. Marantz Cinema 70 and Marantz Cinema 60. Both are in your price range and offer the ability to marry old as well as new components into your system. They not only have a variety of HDMI inputs they allow you to integrate your existing Carver amps as they have a variety of pre outs. With this you can use the internal amps and your a760x as your system grows. This allows you to purchase other Carver amps to introduce them into your growing home theater system. I have a Marantz AV unit and a variety of older Carver items and they integrated well into my system along with newer HDMI items. Plus a 5 year warranty along witH AudysseyMultEQ XT. I feel that I have the best of old (Carver amps and CD player) along with the ability to introduce newer equipment. Two units for your consideration. https://www.marantz.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/cinema-70s/300619-new.html https://www.marantz.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/cinema-60/300617-new.html
