2nd post here so I might still be the f.n.g. and unable to post pics yet.
I found a fella with a p/l 400 for sale so I pulled the trigger on the purchase. Late 70's model with the l.e.d. meters and the front handles shaved off. Presumably by the manufacturer since it's done well. My excitement over this stems from pairing it with the p/l 4000 preamp that was found and given to me by a friend. After adding an ART sl-1 to push the rear speakers, I now know what all the fuss was about when these were introduced. I've got a pair of 70's era Pioneer CS-A31's up front. The rears are a pair of 60's era Wharfdale mystery speakers that I believe were assembled overseas, complete with their Motorola antenna connection speaker inputs.
This has been a very patient endeavor, but I'm very grateful that my lonely preamp found an amp that works well with it.
Also picked up a C-9 and have spent the last few days experimenting with adding it to this system, but feeding an Onkyo receiver/ homemade bookshelf speakers in 2 channel for what has been so far a very amazing listening experience.
Any tips, tricks, advice, or recommendations are certainly welcome. I think I am certainly "hooked", for lack of a better way to put it, on the whole Phase Linear/ Carver thing now.
