To The End of the World opens with Steve Rodby's bass line, elegant with a sense of economy & eminently hummable. Along the way there are pivots & key changes but the bass anchors the song as it segues from the main melodic theme & tempo to keyboard & guitar interludes, then finally brings the song back home after Metheny's crescendo. It ends as it begins but you are left with the feeling of having been transported elsewhere only to softly alight. In my imagination this song is an inspiration for couples ice dancing.
