So Happy I Found The Carver Site For My HR-742
Daddyjt replied to Bill Cook's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
I am not familiar with that receiver model #, but if it has relays, they are very likely a potential distortion cause. Relay failures usually manifest at lower volumes, and sometimes completely resolve when volume is increased, only to resurface next time the unit is powered on. oh, and welcome aboard! Glad you found us! -
FWIW, I found bringing the Legacys out from the wall 12”-18” produced much more natural bass.

They are nice speakers. I’ve had my set for about 6 years now, and they spent 2 of those years as my favorite. ironically, I just moved mine around to the garage today to set up and demo, as I’m listing them for sale on the local classifieds. (yes @69Chevelle that’s your C16 serving preamp demo duty!)

Yea, I know... At the time it was released Cuomo was the darling of the left, and I toyed with reading it then. However, I think it will be an intriguing read now, with all the new revelations unfolding. I seriously wonder if portions of this book may be used against him in future prosecutions....?

What I did not understand until I had more than a sip of the wine, is that the question of what to do with the “left-overs” is moot - there are no left-overs😉
-
I didn’t ask for ice, but I did ask if the Justin Isosceles should be refrigerated 🤫

I had never heard of them until I started hanging with my in-laws 30 years ago. I enjoy the “story” format of many of their songs - and there’s a good dose of humor in many of them too. Good stuff.
-
That’s a bit far back for me, but I’d have to go with The Kingston Trio and their self-titled release.

I did not realize you moved on from the 20.7... I would LOVE to hear a pair of those some day - I’ve never even SEEN a pair in person... Those SVS cylindrical subs are damn near unbeatable for the performance/cost ratio. And they are easy to hide in a room....
-
I wanna see a pic of those two ladies in your setup - you know, the Maggies 😎. Some of the coolest looking speakers I’ve ever seen...

Really man? The title of this thread was obviously tongue-in-cheek, sorry if that was lost on you. So the quest for great sound makes one a snob - noted. Most of us can enjoy different kinds of music, for different kinds of effect - you should try it. In this particular thread, I was speaking of the quest for audio perfection, which is one of the things I do with this hobby. Another would be jamming an AC/DC concert at “just like being there” levels. Yet another would be pursuing straight-up “wow factor” with dub-step or blue man group. Funny, you didn’t pull up this old thread of mine: 🤘

Welcome back Steve! I’m glad your eBay handle is so similar to your Carversite handle. When I saw the WA6 sell on eBay, I immediately noticed your handle, and figured “what are the odds”? Turns out, pretty good! Glad to have you back - we were running short on ornery old guys🤣

When selling the wife on such endeavors, I’ve found it useful to propose selling the old speakers, to offset the cost of the new. If you never get around to selling the old, well....:-)

GET THEM! they look to already have the RDO 194 tweeter upgrade ($400), and they look to be in nice shape!

Hey Hal - welcome aboard! not sure what part of Utah you are in, but there’s a nice little (3) cadre of us up around the Layton area. In fact, we got together yesterday fao a fun listening session and good conversation:-)

The first 3 albums are great...!

My son actually bought this one the other day, and I must say there’s some great new “reference material on the SECOND disc (make sure it’s the 2-cd edition here https://www.amazon.com/Tea-Tillerman-2-CD-Deluxe/dp/B08HRTYL9Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=cat+stevens&qid=1613331082&sprefix=cat+ste&sr=8-3 ) The main album is ok, but the second disc contains some pure MAGIC - specifically the “Studio Demo” tracks (tracks 1,2,6,7). These sound just like being in a studio - the clarity is stunning, and the sound stage is to die for. There are also some very neat other tidbits on disc 2 as well. HIGHLY recommended!

I’m only about 5 hours from Bozeman, 8 hours from Missoula😉

Welcome to the forum. As you will soon discover, this is a pretty unique place on the Internet. I myself swung by about 9 years ago for some quick information on a modified Carver amplifier I picked up. Since that time I’ve made friends, pissed people off, gotten angry and stormed out of the room, seen old friends pass away, expanded my knowledge, shared my knowledge and had a laugh or two. If all that sounds familiar, it should - it’s just like a real family. Even though the soul of Carver runs most strongly in the power amplifier arena, you could not find a better place to discuss speakers that most of us can afford to acquire - you know, great speakers that don’t cost as much as a new car. There are many here with strong opinions, but what you will not find (typically) is “brand-bashing”. You will not be shamed for your proclivity towards any speaker. As @AndrewJohn mentioned, I myself have developed an affinity (obsession?) for NHT. I’ve been around the block -several times- with speakers, and I’ve never been happier than I am right now. Here’s a link to a shootout I did last year, if you’re interested:

I just want to take a moment and thank all that have contributed to this thread - it has evolved into exactly what I hoped it would, and has become one of my favorite places to visit on the site. I have found so much new music that I enjoy, that I most likely never would have found had it not been for you all sharing so freely. THANK YOU!

That is an OUTSTANDING rendition - thanks for sharing!

SACD vs DVDA vs FLAC pt #1 - The Nightfly, Donald Fagen.

I was a dumbass in my late teens/early 20’s with my car stereo, and I know I don’t hear as much now as I could be hearing, had I listened to people 30 years ago that were telling me I was damaging my hearing. That’s why I cringe and gently try to enlighten people I see making the same mistakes now that I made so long ago. Ultimately though, everyone gets to make their own decisions... even with damaged hearing, Id venture a guess that you can still hear quite a bit...
