Becoming a Carver head...😁

Welcome @Carsten Frandsen, glad you found us! What kind of modifications did you do to your m200t? Sounds like a cool project. -
Carver Digital Time Lens / Softeq question
AndrewJohn replied to brjoon1021's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
It's going to be hard to find any documentation ..., as you already did what I would do - use some AI engines out there (way better than just using Google)... I think you are going to have to reverse-engineer such data using electronics analysis instruments and such - that may or may not be at your disposal. Here's why: Every Carver Corp documentation about SoftEQ says that it is the same as DTL - just renamed. I have read tech's descriptions about DTL circuitry (paraphrasing what my head retained) and that is that it varies from implementation component to component. Why? No one really knows, it's a mystery - and it could be due to production / cost decisions or real engineering changes from Bob or others on that side. Second thing to be aware, Carver Corp., ended just as data was more and more digital..., meaning that not much was retained when the doors closed, and some have noted that dumpsters were the primary method of archival..., I've always pondered someone coming up with a hard disk with all kinds of data, engineering docs, marketing literature/art..., but alas, nope, not going to happen since the demise/end was just as "data" like we know it today, started to fill up the ether. Lastly, few of the old timers are still around, or remember, if they are. Bob is now retired, and when some have visited, it's a challenge sometimes, communicating, let alone asking about something he might remember from 1987, almost 40 years ago. The last thing I would consider is that anyone that had the curve data, would have published it by now..., the fact is that DTL is not that common except for a few fans. I have a DTL (actually two) stand-alone units, and I'm going to gut one, and make it into something else - repurposing the chassis). Point being that it was a standalone, then a feature in CD players, then a "new" feature in it's "SoftEQ" incarnation..., all that happened back in the mid 80's of the last century..., before the IBM PC and data started to get collected and Archived for small and medium sized businesses like Carver Corp. I know that's not what you want to hear - but it's my perspective at the moment. IF by chance you DO come up with an EQ curve data, we'd love for you to post it here - along with the archives so it can be preserved. -
New Member Travis Wayne
AndrewJohn replied to Travis Wayne's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome, Travis. I'm a boomer, but my plumber today thought I was 15 years younger..., he got a glimpse of my stereo gear... LoL. Seriously, you will never go back! Allkinds of ways to get modern streaming to sound better than coming from a smart phone speaker... Questions? Just ask them here. -

New to The Carver site
AndrewJohn replied to THammond's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome to the site Teresa @THammond. Glad you found us. Are you technically savvy at all? My intent is to learn if the help you seek is to find a tech, or to get in there and be the tech. We got both kinds of new members here. The safest is to work with Nelion, as already suggested - that requires sending the preamp to them. OTOH, a power switch going bad is something that a good local tech *might* also be able to source and repair for you if that is all your preamp needs. -

Introduction to group
AndrewJohn replied to Granitetop's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Of that series of receiver, the HR-752 is my favorite. I'd get it professionally restored. And, of course..., we LOVE pictures of gear, speakers, etc. Welcome to The Carver Site ! -
Welcome @ssurfer, glad you found us. TFM-35 is a super amp, and totally worth refreshing back to it's original glory. Heed the advice above on where/how to get it done.

Just a simple introduction to the "Old Man"
AndrewJohn replied to Old Man's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome @Old Man. So glad you found us. I have one of those C400 amps, paired with a 4000t preamp (very similar to the C4000). Glad you found us. Start a thread on your amp project..., we love pictures and watching the resurrection of a good piece of gear! -
Welcome to TCS. Fuses should be readily available. I buy them on Amazon. Hardware stores also have them, sometimes. It should say on the fuse you are replacing, or on the back of the amp, what type and size fuse you need.

Thanks, Greg. In the interest of "completeness..." Here's the Amazon Product Description: Product Description Carver high fidelity five channel amplifier. Carver signature audio quality. 5 x 150 watts RMS at 8ohms. 5 x 200 watts RMS at 4ohms. LED status display. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. 12VDC trigger inputs. Gold plated binding posts. Individual channel automatic on/off And the bullet list of features: Here are the pictures that Amazon has on that link - it's 5 years old, so I suspect it won't work eventually - so here's the images, captured for permanency..., as this HTA5A ( HTA-5A ) question has come up a few times.

Interesting..., This post from a guy on Audiogon ( https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/carver-hta5a ) seems to indicate that the Factor Electronics amp is identical to the "OSD Audio XA 5180..., albeit apparently with some confusing power specs (maybe even incorrect specs) between the two. I have ZERO information beyond the research I'm posting here..., TheCarverSite focuses on the vintage Bob Carver gear from the 80's and 90's production, all built with Bob Carver's designs. Note that the Brand "Carver" was purchased by Phoenix Audio, then sold again, (and again..., probably)..., so it's a long shot or anyone's guess on how it got here. Another search found the manual to the OSD version of the same amp..., here: https://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/mm5/graphics/pdfs/OSD-XA5180-Amplifier-Manual2020.pdf That may be helpful..., maybe not..., I tried searching for the HTA50 manual, only one site had it, but it required too much effort http://ServiceManuals.net (purchase, registration, etc..., I avoid those sites.)

Welcome to the site, @AG01, glad you found us. That model is one of the latest? HT systems that came out of China, in the last decade, I believe, and was designed and built by the Chinese entity that purchased rights to the Carver name and brand. I've never seen one, other than recalling seeing them listed on Amazon, a few years ago, for sale. No one I know has seen one - and I suspect a) that it was a limited run production item, and b) (MOST IMPORTANT) the item may have very little in terms of anything Bob Carver ever designed. I could be wrong - but Bob Carver has not been designing anything with the original Carver Corp brand and logo since the late 80's and early 90's of the last century. If you DID find a manual for this unit, we'd love to add it to our library, if you can copy it and share a PDF of it. FWIW, if you go to Google, Google's AI turns up a good, but short, list of references to reviews..., search on the string: "Carver HTA5A Review" and you'll see that it was sold by Amazon, in 2019. I saved the link to this amp for sale, on Amazon, years ago..., while you cannot "search" for the amp for sale..., you can see the archival link at: Amazon.com: Carver Five Channel Amplifier Home Audio/Video Product, Black (Carver HTA5A) : Electronics There is a picture of the unit with the lid off, and, to my average eyes, it doesn't look like any of the 5 channel "Bob" Carver amps I've seen. From the Amazon archived listing, this amp, it says, was made by "Factor Electronics." Factor Electronics ( https://factorelectronics.com/ ) no longer lists the Carver product(s) they distributed out of Burnaby, BC in Canada. They appear today to be a contract-middle-man and system customizer to get a variety of home theater and other products out to a variety of markets (home, church, office, etc.

New to the site, but not to Carver amps!
AndrewJohn replied to drpixel's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome @drpixel, glad you found us. My first Carver Amp was a TFM-35x (OK, a pair of them!) horizontally biamping a pair of Infinity speakers... magical first experience, like yours. So glad you found us. Start a thread on your repair journey with the 400, if you like, and definitely share some pictures! We love pictures. -
Welcome @Don Hopkirk, so glad you found The Carver Site. That is a nice set-up..., we can't wait to see pictures of your gear. We love pictures. And, now, I'm visualizing a picture of your gear, in front of a window, looking out at Half Dome, or something like that at Yosemite 😉 Again, welcome, and glad you are here! Oh, and love that career. There are some old timers here that come from that industry..., and if we are lucky, Jim Clark ( @Ar9Jim ) will pop back in,..., he's a storied member here..., and, well, he's now back in the Aerospace industry making parts for those companies you mentioned.
