  1. Welcome, @Stagam, glad you found us. Looking forward to your contribution to site threads, and your own repair threads, going forward.
  2. In response to ridiculous rhetoric and claims..., to diffuse the con being played, one of the best people I worked for (CEO) with the track record to prove it, used to say: "That doesn't pass the test of least astonishment." J. Gibson He now is CEO and Chairman of a publicly traded underwater robotic drone company, turning it around from bankruptcy, they just passed NASDAQ listing requalification rules. I've been blessed to be around a lot of very smart people. I invest in the companies they lead. It's a real test, that comes from the Tech and UIX world of software and systems: A "Test of Least Astonishment" refers to a method of evaluating a statement or system-design by assessing how likely it is to surprise or confuse users based on their prior experiences and expectations, essentially checking if the system behaves in a way that aligns with what users would intuitively expect, and to call into question any predisposition statements that might gaslight an audience into low surprise and falling deeper into the con or trap.
  3. if you look guilty, you likely are guilty. Avoid situations where you will look guilty. My Dad.
  4. What is the genesis of "Ortus Solis?" I'm curious. You have the voice for Pod Casts..., or more videos. 😉 And the vibraphone music..., love it!
  5. Welcome @77targa. Glad you found us. Lots of super information here to suck hours of your time! And have a lot of fun doing it! When you work on your receiver, think about starting a thread in receiver's forum, and document your work. Again, glad you are here, Welcome!
  6. Hice work, @Half Life. The only thing missing in your first restoration thread now is to post a picture of the final result, in your rig on each side of your component stack... 😉 I have a pair of maggie IIIa's that I'm dreading doing this..., and am even considering just sending them in to White Bear Lake, and calling it factory refreshed - if my wallet can handle it (it's pricey).
  7. Welcome @joebhold, so glad you found us. Looks like your Carver luck is with you. That TFM-45 is highly coveted (I have two). I love EPI speakers, too - and they are sleepers. Burhoe designed those to drink a LOT of power, and I've driven every model of the first edition (from the little gold/yellow catalog of the 70's from EPI) with Carver clean power, and they sound great - I've rebuilt dozens of those 8" woofers, and even replaced some drivers with Huw's really nice replacements over at www.humanspeakers.com . Carver and EPI go well together. On the TFM-45, that is odd that it was "restored" only 6 years ago..., typically, a full restoration (replacing consumables, repair any faults, make all adjustments (bias, DC offset, etc.), and applying all the outstanding service bulletins typically will set that excellent amplifier up for another 30 years of flawless service. If you know who did the work, you might want to go back to them and see exactly what work they did. For example, Nelion Audio in Michigan, gives their work a 3-year warranty. I have amps Greg at Nelion did for me almost 10 years ago, that are still going strong. I hope you find it is something very simple to fix. And, FWIW, we have the owners manual and the service manual, and some service bulletins here in our Manuals Library (seem menu at top of home page). If you are inclined, start a thread on your project to put your TFM-45 back in service! Again, welcome to the site! Glad you found us and we love pictures..., in a few more "likes" to your posts, you'll pass the "spam" threshold and can upload pictures of your gear! (or your in-progress TFM-45 project).
  8. What I have found best is to just open a photo (in a browser, with windows photo viewer, whatever you use to look at photos) and on Windows 11, use the screen grab tool native to Windows 11, grab it, then cut it to the clipboard, then paste it into the thread editor. I've never had an issue..., and, well, it sure beats opening up a file and using paint or photoshop tools to resize it... I've also got pretty good at using screen-capture on my phone, in my photo's library, zooming into the portion I want to show or emphasize, then use the two-button thingy to grab the view of the screen, and instantly share it to myself (I just email it to myself) then on my PC, I open the email, preview the image, use the screen-grab tool above, and cut and paste. Easy peasy. The icon for the screen grab, actually called "Snipping Tool" tool in Windows 11 is: If you are on a Mac, I'm told there is an equivalent app that can be used in the same process.
  9. Welcome @JoNo2025, so glad you found us. Use SEARCH (top right of home page) to search for threads on your receiver. Also, peruse the receiver threads in the receiver repair forums (scroll down on home page to the indexed forum groups). Lots of historical data here that will overwhelm you with information on things to look out for, refresh ideas, processes, etc..., pick and choose to learn based on your incoming electronics skill level. Having said that, If over your head, consider sending the receiver to a tech for professional refresh and adjustment. It's easy to accidentally change a working receiver or amp into a boat anchor if one doesn't know what they are doing.
  10. Welcome, @JRP, glad you found us. Lots of info here. What speakers are you driving? And, sources? If I didn't have so many systems, I'd covet a 6250 receive... 😉
  11. Not sure of the source..., but ties in with the above philosophies...
  12. I taught my kids this, before they were in pre-school. By the time they got to Kindergarten, they knew who was responsible for their actions..., they never blamed anyone, ever. Never looked for a scapegoat for difficult situations they found themselves experiencing. They learned from it, and made better choices, and do so to this day. I'm not sure where the quote came from, but the philosophy is self evident.
  13. Thank you, @The Raven..., this one is so important, today, more than ever. I regularly stop and ask myself, what effect does what anyone else does with their life have on me? Well, nothing..., teach your kids this too, it works, and they will grow up not to give a crap out what so many are hung up on and wasting their lives worrying about these days. Instead, they will put that time in on achieving things, serving others, and making a lasting impact on things that really matter. "Expect nothing and accept everything" ...the best way to avoid disappointment. I forget a lot but try hard to get back on that track.
  14. ...I have to ask, are LSD your initials..., or something else? 😉
  15. Love those pictures!! I'd say you fit right in here! 😉
  16. Welcome @special_20, glad you found us. I'm sure you are doing it already..., check all the threads on BillD, and amplifiers on the TFM-15 in those forums.
  17. Welcome @Rickallan, glad you found us. I'm not familiar with the 130 personally, but I wonder if the knob has become disengaged from the pot it controls. Some Carver knobs are caps on a plastic under-knob, and the glue might have dried up and allowed the outer metal cap to spin on the plastic under-part. Gently pull the knob, to see if it comes off. It's hard to imagine the internal potentiometer going more than min to max, mechanically. If the outer shell of the knob slips off, see if the under-knob it was glued to, has the proper movement. If so, you can align the index dot with min or max, then reglue it with some epoxy or other glue. This is only a suggestion to research what is going on..., I don't have one, so I can't say for sure. Someone else may know, and provide better guidance.
  18. Welcome, @TKM. glad you found the site..., enjoy!
  19. welcome @paultichy, glad you found us. Follow @wrf's direction to finding info on your amp. Also, consider documenting your repair story in a new thread in that appropriate forum. Again, glad you found us.
  20. While we don't have the instructions or Owner's manual in our library, the Spec Sheet tells what it does and is in the Manuals library, here: Carver MC-t Moving Coil and Z-1 Wide Band Coupler Here's the back view:
  21. On this thread..., anyone using a step-up transformer, like this? Anyone looking for this one? Let me know.
  22. I use an Elac Alchemy Series PPA-2 Phono Preamp that supports multiple turntables, and both MC and MM cartridges. Extreme flexibility dials in any cartridge. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_970PPA2/ELAC-Alchemy-Series-PPA-2.html?tp=204
