  1. Why wait! ๐Ÿ˜‰ LoL... Get yours today on eBay - available in red, green, blue, yellow, and even a custom logo'd Tower Records model in maize! Only around $100. ...
  2. Out of my league..., glad I don't have the car-restoration bug (OK, I have it, just haven't acted on it, ...., yet!) One available on eBay now, - check out the key-lock to keep your record stack from getting stolen! And a NOS needle (cartridge?) that sells for as much as the for-restoration unit above:
  3. I saw Queen a couple years ago - and this rendition rivals the energy that Adam Lambert generates on stage...
  4. Welcome @mcole1, glad you found us. There's LOTS of historical wisdom to get lost on here on TheCarverSite. Enjoy. and..., when you get a chance, post a picture or two of your Carver gear - we LOVE pictures !! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  5. Welcome to TCS, BT ( @Graphicai ) So glad you found us. The Carver Site is the longest running online group / website focused solely on Carver (and a few other things... - we like many different electronics in the chain). Lots of historical threads to peruse..., But most importantly - we LOVE pictures ! When you get your carver/DBX system gear set up - don't be afraid to brag with a photo or three... ๐Ÿ˜‰ Again, welcome to the site! share your journey.
  6. Welcome, @ChrisB, glad you found us. We love pictures of gear ! Post yours when you get a chance. If @Sk1Bum doesn't come up with a pair of handles, shoot me a PM - I probably have a pair.
  7. I came across that situation at hifiengine a few times the last few months - I think they have a metered DNS or something..., I wait a few hours, and I can get back in - usually in the late evening or early morning when I think traffic should be low. Or, it may be their site is replicating or synching with an updated database of manuals..., I'm just guessing based on my own website management experience. I had to do the "send me a forgot password link"..., but was able to get in. It's weird, but perhaps understandable... - I know it's a guy or a couple of guys, in their spare time..., doing that site. And it's very comprehensive and has a lot of coverage. They review EVERY manual uploaded to them. I'm sure it's a helluva task (hobby?) and doing it all for free. One time I got a message that they were limiting access to folks that have contributed..., kind of chapped my hide a bit, since I have contributed several (a dozen) items to their site for some very esoteric hard to find manuals... Keep on trying - you should get in (my thinking).
  8. Every once in a while, art forms bleed across mediums..., Eminem is very talented..., and this YouTube creator takes it to another level integrating video clips and voiceover across the main beat, melody and baseline that Eminem made famous with Lose Yourself. I admit I watched this several times just to recall all the movies, scenes and dialog. The clips span a century of so of celluloid that many may not have the exposure and time to have seen all of those 331 movies that the clips come from. Intriguing to say the least. This creator on YouTube, has a few more of these media mashups...,
  9. A good place to start, get your feet wet, and examine all the capability and flexibility Roon has to offer..., is their CEO's youtube video channel. Some really good learning there about streaming in general, and how Roon is approaching delivery of digital audio like no other supplier (in the content side e.g., Tidal iTunes, etc..., component side, e.g., Rose, Sonus, or the receiver side, e.g., Denon, Marantz). From all those perspectives the solutions are limiting the potential grand flexibility to solve streaming from a myopic perspective to sell their device or content, alone. Here's the link to the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@roonlabs The CEO's introduction videos are the ones with the blue background (see image below) on their home-page on the channel. The other videos are good too - but the basics and getting started videos are in the ones by the CEO. Enjoy ! This is a great journey you are on .
  10. I forgot to mention, that Roon, also integrates all those other streamers - some better than others, of course because of the streamer's limitations (e.g., Plex, Sonos, Airplay, Chromecast, Rose, Audessy, ..., now that just about every receiver has some integrated "streaming" short-cut in it, if the receiver, or component, is connected to your network via ethernet or wifi..., Roon will see it as a play device or what they call an "end point". Heck, Roon even sees my desktop PC (with it's klipsch pc speakers) as an enpoint, and will play it's playlist to my PC...! A full list of the Roon Partners in their ecosystem that are seamlessly driven by the Roon experience is here: https://roon.app/en/partners I've always also been able to find great support on the Roon community forums where the last 10 years of Roon, has generated a community not unlike that around Carver... Roon has a "Roon Ready" certification / partner program where they work with all these streaming device makers to ensure that they can be controlled by Roon's unified interface that integrates both content (source input) and output components (where you are listening). So..., that means that Roon simplifies all these UIX's into one common, grand-unified experience - set it up once, and use the Roon UI from your phone, ipad, or pc, to control playing music in all your locations where music can be streamed. I focused on the flexibility of componentization (DAC and stereo-system) because that is what interests me the most - and getting the purest, highest-resolution, loss-less music content playing through any number of my Carver systems. For grins, I set up my Marantz AV receiver to be controlled by Roon - but I don't use it that often. Here's a link to Roon's Roon Ready partner update - not an exhaustive list..., but shows where they are at compatibility, and future interest in your investment (over locking you into one streamer). https://blog.roonlabs.com/roon-ready-partner-update-april-2025/ I also left out that with Roon ARC, I can take my streaming into my car, and playlists are portable..., just as if I was at home..., (can't do that with a stand-alone streamer component.
  11. Understanding that Digital is all about the content - as in "files" that you want to play, I see digital streaming play technology following two paths..., Path one, proprietary streamers. These lock you into a vendor's concept "at the time" of what perfect is..., and, likely also, what "planned obsolescence" for their sustained profits can look like, in 2-5 years after you tire of the unit. Lots of good features, remotes, etc..., but in the end, they play a digital file, through a DAC, outputting to your stereo in a format (analog, usually) that it wants to receive. Path two, is technology that has an interest in achieving several things: first, to reduce obsolescence in your technology investment, second expand your experience with knowledge about the music, the musicians, the recording studio, events around the production, and so on..., all rich data that is available on the internet..., so you can metaphorically "read" the album cover as you listen to a recording - like we used to with LPs back in the day. Third, provide flexibility to swap out and experiment with DACs in the "digital to analog conversion" chain (can't easily do that with proprietary streamers in a meaningful, cost effective and flexible way). Fourth, allow one to integrate any number of "sources" of content..., that is things like one's own digital ripped CD collection, and sources like Qobuz and Tidal, and international sources if you are into international music - all into one visual UIX interface you operate from your phone or ipad or pc - to tell your stereo what music to stream anywhere on your network. I chose path 2, as it aligns most closely to the OCCD trait of swapping out and having flexibility with the components in my audiophile setup. I wrote a long thread called "Everything, Everywhere, all at Once." about my Roon setup. It's changed a lot since I did it. And roon has been expanding with international music sources, and a number of devices..., but in the end, I'm not locked into a ROSE or other maker's idea/design of the "perfect streamer" - I change elements of my streaming setup constantly - another element of OCCD. Then again, many just like the "set it and forget it" approach of Path one.
  12. Welcome to the site, @Twisted Cheeto. Love that moniker... Say, I was cleaning some stuff in my audio/electronics stash, and came across some TFM-35 bulbs. the original incandescent kind. I've done it before - it's a solder-in quick-fix..., once you get the cover off, and see the little meter light board. Assuming you have, or have a friend that can, do Soldering..., I'd be happy to send these bulbs to you - I'm not going to use them. PM me here on TheCarverSite (hover your mouse over my avatar, and in the pop-up, click on "message" in the lower-left).
  13. I'm late to the party..., watched the series The Old Man, and finished season 2 last night (Hulu). I really liked it. I thought "the old man" referred to Dan Chase, played by Jeff Bridges, but learned late in the series that it referred to Morgan Bote, played by Joel Grey. Season 1 was riveting, and the first two episodes of Season 2 were engaging, then it fell apart - but I still enjoyed the series. It was relatable to me personally since my brother was killed in that part of the Afghanistan countryside - working to rescue civilian children (I wrote an in memoriam post on TCS in the Bad Ass thread old-timer members kept alive in the early days of TCS). Reading up on the series, it was piloted in 2019, Season 1 in 2022, and season 2 in late 2024. A lot of things got in the way of making season 2 more successful. Jeff Bridges came down with lymphoma, the writer's strike, a two year gap between S1 and S2 and of course Covid - all interfered with keeping the momentum of Season 1 going. FX pulled the plug on a season 3 - although i would watch if they resurrected it, or some other network did. I love the wit, action and humor of FUBAR with Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Old Man, with Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, and Alia Shawkat is (to me) more realistic and believable. Bridges played a "badass" aging CIA agent that was effective and believable while not over the top or exaggerated for the sake of sensationalizing alone. While Afghan scenes were filmed in California around Antelope Valley - the terrain effectively reminded me of my time in the mountains of the Middle East in a very believable way. Season 2 ended with John Lithgow being sold out by his ex-wife (first wife) and British/HK diplomat to the Chinese, and used as leverage to try to gain access to economic geologic/mineral ore deposits that Emily/Angela/Parwana (Shawkat) now the matriarch of the Afghan Hamzad family and formerly the "daughter" of Lithgow and Bridges and Negahban (Faraz Hamzad) - you have to watch the series to understand this. This was a great setup for a Season 3 and some good writing - but alas without renewal, it was pulled. Oh, yes, and the Russians are involved over the course of the time-frame of the work which with flashbacks start during the Russian occupation through current time. There are flaws, of course. but it's entertainment. YMMV. Season 1 trailer: Season 2 Trailer
  14. Some of us liked season 1 of FUBAR..., The trailer for Season 2 was posted 30 minutes ago! Looking forward to it! Trailer says June 12.
  15. Welcome @shamrock86, good to have you join. Looking forward to seeing some of your projects! I just bought some Iowa beef last week..., used to live (as a kid) in Des Moines..., Again, welcome to the site!
  16. Most of us just deal with the added cost required to "ship" it. On average, shipping a Carver component across the country is about $50-60 with FedEx. Why? Eliminate two risks..., Risk 1. There just aren't very many reputable electronics ships around anymore, especially if you are in a rural area. And, you gamble on getting your unit broken worse, by an inexperienced tech - or worse, one that doesn't know much about Carver designs - they are unique, and someone that can fix, say, a heathkit amp, or traditional receiver, is going to be over their head with Carver designs. Risk2. YOU control the quality and robustness of packaging your unit for shipment. so you know it's handled properly, and going to survive a 6' drop off a conveyor at FedEx - because YOU packed it in solid sheet styrofoam, and a double-box. the two that most here know of are: Nelion Audio (www.nelionaudio.com) in West-central Michigan and Rolland Barr, on the west coast. These two are independent, and have years of experience, as well as Bob Carver's endorsement. They ONLY do Carver work (or primarily) so they don't have to "figure it out"..., they understand the unique designs Bob implemented to generate great audio, and can put the units back in shape. There ARE of course, other techs out there - both with experience, and up and coming gaining experience, and you should consider those too... Best of luck on your next steps.
  17. is it just me, or is this becoming more and more prevalent in films, series, and video? Recently, watching White Lotus and The Bear, I've predicted most pivotal plot shift or cause/outcome in each season. I'm around 40-50% for predictions. I'm really not that good - I think it's more likely that either: Writers have to produce so much more content now, with so many more media platforms, it begins to follow a pattern..., and audiences recognize it OR, is it that A.I., is following the plot data of everything digital, and it too is falling into the trap of repeated (or boiled down to bland) storylines and plots? I wonder what others think? And if others are able to similarly predict endings?
  18. I was thinking old Circus Elephant Stands..., they come up from time to time here in WI around Baraboo, at garage sales..., oddly. (Baraboo was summer HQ for Ringling Brothers...) In the early days of the circus, elephant stands were just half-whiskey-barrels. With the bands on, they are still stout. To get to tweeter level, one would need a whole barrel, I suppose. I have to say, I want to try this. @Rob and I went to the SVS room at AXPONA. Their 18" sub was about 5 ft to my 11:00 from where I was sitting. I was wearing some heavy Carhart dungarees..., and that sub was moving the loose material around my ankle..., serious movement - like flapping heavy duck material in the wind. I'm guessing one might "feel" the subs more "in-your-face" with tweeter-level placement? I dunno, I gotta' try it. But, you're right, engineering is required. My two Carver Knight Shadow subs walk across the room, on carpet, with spikes..., putting them at tweeter level..., well, you know, "movement..."
  19. Welcome, @cmrvi1, so glad you found us, Carlos. This is The Place to Be for all things Carver. Can't wait to learn about your Carver journey. What gear do you have? We LOVE pictures..., cut and paste a few in to the post-text window and share your story. Again, welcome to TCS!
  20. I had a pair of those speakers once, sold them about 8 years ago to a young woman, getting into vinyl. It started a good hobby for her, a good investment for me in the next generation to look beyond their iphone for real music listening.!
  21. Welcome, @boba1954. Lots of info here. Post a picture of that setup, sometime! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  22. Welcome, @Jim Ollison, so glad you found us! and, do let us know what gear you have..., and pictures are a great way to share ! Again, welcome to the site.
  23. Welcome Derron! @Yahweh1x - cool handle. What other Carver gear are you queueing up for restoration? We're the place to be. For all things Carver. Can't wait for pictures ! ๐Ÿ˜‰ We love pictures!
  24. Welcome, @Fish, so glad you found us. We love pictures, sometime share a few of your setup. This is the "Place to Be"..., as the founder of the site @RichP714 used to say. TheCarverSite has become the biggest repository of Carver information anywhere on the internet. Glad you found us.
  25. Great to hear from so many FM'ers We should collaborate more... ๐Ÿ˜‰ One of my favorite FM radio broadcasts is the NPR World Cafe, and it's showcase of essential and emerging artists from around the world. Some of the innovative sounds coming out of Africa are really interesting to listen to - and of course, other places too.
