  1. Welcome, @danfree, glad you found TheCarverSite! You'll want to reach out to @sea, a member here, who does ribbon repair. Bob Carver has authorized and approved his technique and materials. Taking apart the ribbon is not a DIY task, it will never get put back together without the proper jig as the magnets will not position properly. Sorry to break it to you, but you will likely have to spend some money if you want to hear these in all their glory. Working, they sell in the $750+ range, fully restored with fully restored ribbons in both speakers, they can go for much more. But it takes investment. One thing you might do, is watch for a ribbon on Ebay, from a set that someone is parting out. Still, hang around here, and let us know what you do next. Glad you found us.
  2. welcome @Carverrocks, so glad you found us. Several Carver amps will drive your new acquisition. @xavionics indirectly points out that more power makes carver amazings with ribbons, really sing! TFM-45, M4.0t, and even m1.5 and m1.0t's will drive them. Or you might go for the Carver Silver 7t or Carver Silver 9t Monoblocks. I've tried all of these, and they are great!
  3. Welcome to the site, @tvm62, glad you found us. We'd love to see you put a thread together on these, and especially if you put them into service. There are a few "project threads" on car audio, but not sure if that model. On the main page, there is an index of all the sub-forums, one dedicated to car audio. Again, glad you found us, and welcome!
  4. A little Thursday Morning Halloween wake-me-up..., from the same cover band.
  5. I miss the Cranberries unique sound. This cover is a good reminder of a great band that ended too soon, and tragic loss of Delores O'Riordan. This tribute cover is almost hauntingly mourning.
  6. Big fan of Chris Isaak..., and this meets the bar.
  7. Patrick, here's the stack I have, which I am going to put up for sale, soon. If you are interested, let me know. The stack is in great shape. (Those little white spots on the top of the picture are reflections from my ceiling can lights on the photo.) I'll be putting this up on CL, FB, and Ebay, eventually. Anyone else interested? Let me know.
  8. Welcome, @Lovage, so glad you found us. Are you the same guy over on the FB forum asking about re-acquiring what you lost? If so, I'm the one that responded. I'll post here, a picture of the stack I have that I'm trying to sell, and which has a C-3 - that is a nice thin-line model from Carver..., looks great with the TX-8 and TFM-6. So glad you became a member - there's a ton of great information here. Enjoy!
  9. I don't know about @UltraBitchin's avatar..., but the flying saucers on the Boston album, are upside down guitars, coming at you..., ever notice that? 😉
  10. Welcome, @UltraBitchin, so glad you found us. Hoping to learn more about your Carver gear... ...and, you'll soon learn, that getting into Carver, is a "journey...", not a destination. 😉
  11. Over the past 20 years..., going through the full catalog of Carver gear..., I've found that "it's a journey, not a destination" is a great way to think of your engaging in the "Carver Experience." So many choices, so many options, so many configurations, ..., and then there are your speaker choices. LoL Enjoy the ride!
  12. As you search for the C-19, the C-1 with a BillD (or without! - check members gear for sale, a member has listed a pristine tested original C-1 for sale you might like... On the C-19, just a thought to share with you..., the C-19 is really not a true "tube" preamp, it is in Bob Carver's writte-up in the preface of the manual a hybrid Solid-state/Tube preamp, employing tubes in Bob's design where they can enhance power (tone crontrols, phono-stage, etc. taking that directly from the manual). Another important factor is that the C-19 does NOT have sonic holography as a native feature like the C-1, C-11, C-16 have, with a on/off button for SH on the front faceplate. To get sonic holography with at C-19, you'll need to have a C-9 sonic holography generator (or the more rare ECS-U speaker control unit from Carver). Just something to bear in mind. A good read of the C-19 owner's manual, you can find in the Manuals Library here on our site, is a good place to get an understanding of what the C-19 does, how it works, and such, as you pursue finding one of your own. Even so, the C-19 is a fabulous preamp, and highly coveted. Best of luck on your journey to land one!
  13. Welcome @RudyB. Glad you found us.
  14. Ditto, @StevenP, it's too easy for local shops "to think" they can fix a Sunfire amp. There is little to no service documentation out there..., and some of these shops end up putting them on the shelf for years, as @PMAT noted above. Be careful, because someone who is unaware of how Sunfire Amps operate, can actually butcher them, and destroy internal parts that are no longer obtainable. You best bet is to send it off to Greg at Nelion - the reputation he has is clear, and you'll get your amp back in better-than-new condition. Post here on your journey, and outcome! We want to see you successful. It is not to say that there aren't other techs out there..., it's just the Carver Site has not heard of them.., and we get around! 😉
  15. Welcome to The Carver Site, @StevenP, so glad you found us! Why stop at one? I keep my eyes open for another 600x2 to compliment the one I have. 😉 I think that a couple more things are on your wishlist..., like a Sunfire VTCC (Vacuum Tube Control Center) the matching Sunfire Preamp to your 600x2 amplifier..., Again, welcome. BTW, we LOVE pictures. When you get your amp back, post some pictures of your system with those Polks, in the "Member's Systems" section. ...and now, curious minds want to know..., when you get your 600x2 back..., what it was your tech repaired..., it might help another member be on the look out for similar issue(s).
  16. Welcome, @CERB, glad you found us. @sea is your guy for the ribbons. His work is approved by Bob Carver himself on those ribbons. They will last your lifetime after he rebuilds them. Sea's name is Ed Atkins. You can send him a PM here, or also (where he frequents more often) you can find him on the Carver Facebook Groups or on facebook, in general. Super great guy - you won't be disappointed. The investment is well worth it. BTW, what is the amp you have? I'm not familiar with the TFM 374? did you mean a TFM-75? or a TFM-35? or? And, it often goes without saying..., we LOVE pictures. Glad to have you on board, and don't hesitate to brag on your system and speakers more here..., we love it! Again, welcome to The Carver Site!
  17. Welcome to the site, @wicked1340, glad you found us. From that list..., and build..., you will fit right in here! We love pictures..., BTW. 😉
  18. Welcome @Lynn68, glad you found us!
  19. Welcome, @Sean McCarthy. glad you found us. We LOVE pictures!
  20. Welcome, @OldSchool74. So glad you found us. This "Is the Place To Be!! 😉 We love all Bob Carver...., that's Phase Linear, Carver Corp, Sunfire, and the later Tube Amps he has developed. That preamp is a complex one..., I'm not sure if there are any active members here that have one in service, but I do know that Nelion Audio will work on them..., As for historical threads, the best way to start would be to browse the various forums, preamps is one. and/or use the serch function..., it's a bit unique, and takes some playing around to get it to find what you are looking for - but that's like all search buttons, I 'spose. Again, welcome! Glad you found us. And, we'd LOVE to see you start a repair thread on your 4000 project. Then you'd be helping the next guy. No rules on repair threads - keep it simple and take lots of pictures. Looking forward to your posts.
  21. Welcome @waltband, glad you found us. We have lots of great members here, and room for all kinds of threads on your projects, or for you to research how others did their projects... Again, Welcome!
  22. Welcome, @GDKZ, so glad you found us. And you have found the right place. On your fuse issue..., the sad/bad news is that it is unlikely to find a replacement cap for an existing fuse holder..., the manufacturers have variations beyond belief..., I know..., I've had that issue before - and replaced the whole unit (internal and cap) in every case. The caps from one maker to the next, don't cross-fit, and even from one maker's production run to another run..., they don't fit. I've even seen different housings/caps on the same model of Carver amps, so the cap from one amp model x, won't fit another same model x amp. They are easy to replace..., easy solder job - just take your time. Again, glad you found us! Lots to learn here. Start a thread on your repair! include lots of pictures..., we love pictures.
  23. Welcome @claude. Glad you found the site, and posted. We love pictures..., as you work on this, post an update or two. Again, glad you are here.
  24. Welcome, @Ron V. Glad you found us here on The Carver Site. Those two pieces are great pieces that some take years to find the kind of specimens they want to refresh and keep. Post some pictures of your work in a repair thread..., we LOVE pictures.
