  1. Thanks David. Enjoyed the article.
  2. Thanks for sharing. Heard those at CF2017. Very nice legendary audiophile speakers.. Like OTD said, sea has a beautiful pair and you guys would likely enjoy talking Quads..
  3. Streaming has opened up a door for sure. I find in recent years acoustic instruments and vocals are more attractive then they used to be. Not sure if its a better system or age, but I see beauty in things I had no appreciation for when younger.
  4. Thanks for sharing. That aligns with what I have read. I heard a M&K sub/sat system in the 90s and the M&K (as a system) sounded good. The man in the video didn't like it with his speakers but personally I liked M&K system I had heard.
  5. Have been reading about that lately. Thats interesting Russ. Read that 2 subs make it easier to get good results. Sounds like you experienced that as well.
  6. Some of these videos are pretty good. Hope you like.
  7. These recommend disc are a great help guys! This morning I'll take the 1 1/2 hour drive over near Chicago, and check out the collectors show that AJ has posted about. AJ and myself plan to meet at the record show today. Looking forward to seeing him again.. Wonder if Dano is going? I'll send him a PM.. Thanks again.
  8. So it sounds better than your AR? ray Not with my current speakers. I do like the Sonic hologram with other speakers that I have owned, but since that is not an option with SDA's... And the Audio Research, is the first preamp that I have owned that I can honestly say I prefer over my BillD C-1 or C-11. And I had to spend five times the amount of money that I sold that c14 in order to find what I considered a legitimate step up. The AR Trav has is super sweet. A lot more money. I have a great sounding Threshold Fet10 HL that is a step above a C1BillD as well. Its 3x the price of the BillD. Heard the new Bob Carver preamp will have a digital sonic hologram generator. Still in the works but sounds like a neat product. Tube preamp, digital SH.. SH without the noise?
  9. Beautiful boat.. Simply beautiful. Must be some nice escapes taking her out for a ride.. Sweet.
  10. Wow. You vinyl guys go through a bunch of inconvenience and messing around to listen to records. I'm doing it as a need for demos, or a turntable wouldn't be something that I need. Maybe there is something special in those grooves? Expectations are low for the Edison machine.
  11. What a great source of knowledge. Thanks a million. I'm only doing this once, and it cost less to do it right the 1st time. Thanks for suggesting sources as well. Since its for demo use, I'll get the best available and be done with it. Unless there really is something to this vinyl thing, and I get hooked for more records.. I'm skeptical at best. The new DACs are pretty darn good.. Look forward to comparing.
  12. No Shit? So you should change to a new sleeve as well?
  13. Read that brand new records should be cleaned before use, do to cutting/pressing debris let behind. Seems hard to believe that new records are shipped dirty. Insight anyone?
  14. Couple weeks back I bought a silver face C1BillD from Compwaco for $500. At that price it was a steal and the silver is kind of rare. Sometimes people want the same system they had 30 yrs ago. They are happy to pay more than its actually worth to relive years gone by it seems. Its much like classic cars imho.. That 1969 SS454 LS5 Cowl Induction Chevelle you rode in as a young guy, may have sold for $4K back then.. The cars of today do EVERYTHING better than that old Chevelle. But the Chevelle is worth how much today? Hard to put a price on these things and value to an individual. You can buy a new car for less money that will outperform the Chevelle in every way possible. Doesn't make the Chevelle (as an example a friend had, and wrapped around a phone pole) worth less money today. I find Carver gear something like muscle cars to people. Sometimes they want to twist the knob on a C1 and see M500 meters bounce like they did when young or watch the LEDs on a M1.0 jump.. Something like stomping the go pedal on an LS5 454.
  15. Bill was totally fair to his friend Dom.. And that was 6 years ago.
  16. Great advise you guys! Really appreciate your input. What a great group of minds to ask for audio advise!!!
  17. Seems like a fair price for a repair shop. Subtract the cost of parts and the many cost of doing business from that quote. He is working for a living and likely not getting rich. IIRC Dennis Miller charged less than $300, seems like $250 for my BillD mod.. After doing a few myself, it became clear that Dennis gave me a gift and a labor of love at that price. Some of the Carver site techs have been very generous to us over the years. The quotes from others seem expensive, Really, we have just been lucky over the years to have guys around who did this work as a hobby and gift to their friends. Just opinion.
  18. I have been a digital audio guy since CD came out. Its been at least 30 years since playing the last vinyl. While setting up my Bob Carver showcase system, Bob mentioned some people will want a demo with vinyl. I have a turntable set up now and need to get some music on vinyl. It seems wise to buy new for this. Can you guys share your #1 pick for doing demos of vinyl. Artist, label, where to buy. Maybe with your help, I can find a variety of genre, with the highest quality recordings to makeup a demo sample. Thanks for your recommendation..
  19. Welcome Kevin. Enjoy Carversite.

    Pandora vs. Spotify

    Same opinion here.
  21. Sweet!!
  22. Welcome. Enjoy CS.. Funny that you mention the 1st wife. We say wedding vows, "till death do us part". Many of us have loved Carver gear so long that it outlasted our first marriages.. Now that, is brand loyalty!
  23. Welcome John. Have fun here. Enjoy Carversite.
