  1. I have had the L’s, L2’s, Cam Pro, K’s. In my opinion the L2’s were the best. When doing the surrounds I used a CD with a 30 hz frequency which plays for 3 minutes. You can spread the glue and let it get tacky then turn on the CD and start to adhere the surround to the frame. It will rattle if it’s off center. You can just push it around to eliminate the rattling. Good job restoring these. They look to be in very good condition. Worth the money to upgrade.
  2. Did you buy it?
  3. Welcome to the site. $550 is steep but it’s all about how bad you want it. I wouldn’t pay that unless I had been searching for a long time and it was in excellent condition. I mean like new out of the box condition and had a remote. Hopefully when this was serviced they replaced the output relays and the sonic holography relay. Don’t know what transistors have been replaced and why. I’ve never had to replace any in working units. They are nice receivers though.

  5. Welcome @doug74x to the site. You have come to the right place for tips and tricks to for fill your needs. Be patient because you may be asked many questions because troubleshooting in a forum can get tricky. Enjoy!!!
  6. Looks like he found the possible solution and he posted it in the Recent status updates.
  7. Welcome Eric to the site!!!
  8. Welcome Shelby. I would make sure that ALL solder joints are good everywhere on the board and as @3M_Audio asked, did it do this before you capped it? I would go over all the solder joints with a fine tooth comb and make sure the board is clean, no broken traces, and no backwards installation of caps. Wiggle the transistors and watch for solder breaks. If there are areas showing heat discoloration, I would check those areas too for bad solder joints and bad components. And when I restore those amps, I always rebuild the bridges. I have replaced quite a few diodes in those M200t’s

  10. Wish you were here album.
  11. Well, here’s what I have experienced. My MXR had a perfectly working thermal protection system. I think those receivers are an 8 ohm unit and the Cerwin Vegas that I paired with them were 4 to 8 ohms. That receiver was abused in many many parties to the point where it would get so hot it would shutdown. I let it cool down for a few minutes and it would come back on. Then I bought a FAN!!! I wouldn’t buy anything as far as amps or receivers that didn’t have a protection mechanism in it. When I am pushing my amps I always have a fan on it. So maybe the amp is letting too much current flow with lower impedance speakers. I would be more worried about it if I was a person like I used to be. Now I’m not listening to music at the levels I used to so this is not something I worry about anymore and on top of that I can just repair what I burn up. 🤣🤣🤣 But yeh, Impedance is AC resistance. I can’t hear anything on DC current.

  17. Welcome to the site. The MXR 150 was my first purchase and my only carver piece for more than 30 years. I loved it. Enjoy the power.
  18. I have seen damage very similar in many other Carver amps typically in TFM's. They get very hot and burn boards. But that one looks like it was cooked nicely.
  19. If the relays are not clicking, more than likely the unit is in protection mode and they won't click on. Did you say that you speakers won't work on another backup receiver? If that's the case I wouldn't think it would be the transformer this early in the diagnostic stage. If the speakers won't work then it was probably them that did something to the protection circuit in the receiver. Any fuses inside of the unit hiding under stuff that might be blown?
  20. VR452 is a 150k pot but I believe I used a 200k pot from another model before. You can still find pots that will work. Sometimes it just takes some digging.
  21. Welcome to the site. Greg @ Nelionaudio might have the part you need. Send him a message through his service email. He now has the receiver collection that I had.
