  1. Welcome to the Carver Site! Lots of help, here. Glad to have you aboard.
  2. @sea were Greg and Jenny were in Treehouse A? I would sign up for Treehouse A instead of Treehouse C, if so. It's just a tad easier to move gear in and out of Treehouse A.
  3. Here's my go to list. A mish mash of songs I like, songs with great production quality, and songs that have various elements which cover my typical musical tastes. Dusty Springfield- Son of a preacher man Bob Dylan- Tangled Up in Blue Hall and Oates- She's gone Dire Straits- So far away Talking Heads- Naive Medley (This must be the place) Genesis- Abacab Rush- Tom Sawyer Steely Dan- Hey Nineteen Yello- Kiss in Blue New Order- Blue Monday Tool- Chocolate Chip Trip Breakout- Swing Out Sister Vail Johnson- Bass solo Miles Davis- So What (from Kind of Blue) Pharoah Sanders- Harvest Time I usually judge my speakers based on a few key elements: 1) how "in control" the bass is- ie not boomy. 2.) Whether or not there is the right amount of bass. 3) Presence, sound stage and clarity of the highs (if I can close my eyes and see the actual cymbal being struck and know where it is in the room). 4) Presence of details (can I hear the sound of fingers on guitar strings, or hear a breath before a horn is played). 5) Smoothness of the vocals and horns (ie. the upper mids aren't annoying at higher volumes)
  4. Welcome! Nice looking gear!

  9. Welcome to the Carver Site! Good luck with the mxr 130 fix. You'll get lots of help here. So cool to hear from folks who have owned a unit from new... 40 years. That's terrific.
  10. Welcome to the Carver Site!
  11. Sometimes a 're'-recording or remastering can be really good. Like many of us...I grew up in the '80's with a lot of that synthesizer laden music (which I still love...guilty pleasure). One of my favorite bands was the The Fixx. This compilation recording was made in 2003. They re-recorded several of the hit songs they had in the '80's. It's a great quality recording. And, the music is redone with less synthesizer emphasis... it sounds a lot more mature and nuanced. I especially like the new versions of "Stand or Fall", and "Secret Separation".
  12. Welcome to the Carver Site!
  13. Thanks for the intro and welcome, belatedly, to the Carver Site!
  14. Welcome to the Carver Site! I have had two Carver receivers, neither had been updated, but I loved them both.... I feel like the Carver receivers are very underrated.

  17. Welcome to the Carver site! I have C1, C4000, and CT-7 preamps. The C1 has the BIllD mods and it is dead quiet. It's like it's not even there. Amazing really. I use it in my main rig, with 2 m1.5t's and Infinity Kappa 8 speakers. The C4000 has been refurbished though it still has some nascent "leakage" into the left channel at zero volume, but sounds great with volume up. It has a Gundry filter installed as part of the Sonic Holography, which I like better than the straight up Sonic Holography. I use it with my RAM285 tube amp and, really, it's my best sounding system overall. I also have a CT-7 which has not been refurbished at all. It sounds great and is convenient with the remote that comes with it. I use it in my garage setup, as I have it up high and somewhat inconvenient to reach. For some reason, I don't like the phono stage on it as much as the other two.....again, it could just be in need of refurbishment.
  18. Welcome to the Carver SIte! I have several m1.5t's and a C4000 myself.... all of them have been updated/upgraded by Nelion. My C4000 needed the work... had some static, and other issues. The m1.5t's... well, like you, I just wanted to make sure they would last and were operating at peak performance. They came back with more power and cleaner sound. So, I'd recommend the updates.
  19. Seemed appropriate given today is the winter solstice.
  20. Yes, I was being kind of flippant with my comment.... I realize there's years of development that went into the design.... my point was, that speaker designers are not designing to a target impedence level.... rather, they are designing for the best sound, and letting the impedance be an outcome.... or maybe just a constraint (like cost or manufacturability).
