  1. I see a lot of debate on streamers online. People spend a lot of money on it for sure.... I really don't understand it all. I have a simple setup, I use Qobuz on an iPad into a DAC then into my Carver Preamp. It sounds beautiful. So good I can't imagine it being any better. To get better, I think the setup would have to be modifying the source sound to add color or personal preference essentially making the sound from the DAC less transparent. But I already have my own devices to add my preferenes to the sound (Tube amp, Sonic Holography, tone controls, EQ's, etc). I know some folks need more devices to manage their own files. So, systems like Bluesound Node or having an Oppo to manage music on your own network would come into play. But, I don't have my own files. So, my simple setup is fine for me. The iPad itself frustrates me from time to time... but it has nothing to do with the music. (Apple is continuously updating software and trying to run my life for me, lol.)
  2. Sometimes a TV show or movie will carry a great song on its soundtrack and inspire me......... I've been watching "Your Friends and Neighbors" series on Apple TV+ (great show by the way) and they played this song by Blind Melon I haven't heard in a while. Fantastic tune from the '90's.

  12. I can't answer the electrical questions. But, I have an m1.0t and several m1.5t's. All have been refurbished/upgraded by Nelion to mkII status. None of them get hot at all in any place... they all run fairly cool even if driven hard (I've measured them running hard at warmest spot on the chassis and I get about 95 deg F). I have fans, but I don't use them. As long as you provide enough space around the amps, they stay nice and cool. The m1.5t MkII's I have are different sounding than the m1.0t MkII......But, by just a bit. Not really all that different. If I had to characterize it, I'd say the m1.5t's are "brighter"...ie a little more high end. Kind of like the difference between CD's and Records, when CD's first came out... The m1.0t mkII is a little "warmer" sounding. When I pair my m1.5t's with speakers that have a lot of high end, it can feel kinda harsh on certain songs. But, really, like I said, this is nit picking differences. I've run them back to back on same speakers in blind tests, and I really can't tell them apart that easily. (Note: I had Nelion upgrade the m1.0t to MkII Opt 2, which gives it almost as much power as the m1.5t mkII refurbishment). Hope you figure out your issue.... lots of help here on the Carver Site. Oh, and welcome aboard!

  14. @sea were Greg and Jenny were in Treehouse A? I would sign up for Treehouse A instead of Treehouse C, if so. It's just a tad easier to move gear in and out of Treehouse A.
  15. Here's my go to list. A mish mash of songs I like, songs with great production quality, and songs that have various elements which cover my typical musical tastes. Dusty Springfield- Son of a preacher man Bob Dylan- Tangled Up in Blue Hall and Oates- She's gone Dire Straits- So far away Talking Heads- Naive Medley (This must be the place) Genesis- Abacab Rush- Tom Sawyer Steely Dan- Hey Nineteen Yello- Kiss in Blue New Order- Blue Monday Tool- Chocolate Chip Trip Breakout- Swing Out Sister Vail Johnson- Bass solo Miles Davis- So What (from Kind of Blue) Pharoah Sanders- Harvest Time I usually judge my speakers based on a few key elements: 1) how "in control" the bass is- ie not boomy. 2.) Whether or not there is the right amount of bass. 3) Presence, sound stage and clarity of the highs (if I can close my eyes and see the actual cymbal being struck and know where it is in the room). 4) Presence of details (can I hear the sound of fingers on guitar strings, or hear a breath before a horn is played). 5) Smoothness of the vocals and horns (ie. the upper mids aren't annoying at higher volumes)

  23. Sometimes a 're'-recording or remastering can be really good. Like many of us...I grew up in the '80's with a lot of that synthesizer laden music (which I still love...guilty pleasure). One of my favorite bands was the The Fixx. This compilation recording was made in 2003. They re-recorded several of the hit songs they had in the '80's. It's a great quality recording. And, the music is redone with less synthesizer emphasis... it sounds a lot more mature and nuanced. I especially like the new versions of "Stand or Fall", and "Secret Separation".
