  1. Great looking room! I have a similarly shaped room for my setup. It's above my garage, and the roof line makes a 45 degree ceiling on both sides just like that. I have no data on this- but I think it's better acoustically, vs a typical box shaped room. Oh, and BTW... love the Spiderman! He and the Flash are my two favorite superheroes :).
  2. Thanks all, very good tips! I much appreciate it. I have since learned this does have a newer N14 stylus, but ME103 cartridge is the OEM, as mentioned by @3M_Audio. I think that's what the seller was talking about... that he had replaced the stylus with something he felt was superior. Well, I'll set it up tonight, grab some vinyl and give her a go. See what I've got on my hands. Again, appreciate the tips.
  3. So, I continue to proliferate my collection of gear... Since I have two systems going these days, I have rationalized a need for a second turntable (the word "need" is getting misused in this context" I'm sure ) Found a minty Technics SL D2 (I already have one and I love it). But it has this cartridge stylus combo I've never heard of... I googled it and got some info. Apparently SHURE made cartridges for Technics back in the day. But I can't find any reviews or comparisons to other cartridges. The guy who sold me the turntable says it is a fantastic cartridge. I was going to click the Amazon button and buy myself an Ortofon Blue, like I have on my other TT....but, thought I'd check the sellers claims first. The unit is such pristine condition, I'm inclined to believe him. Of course, I'll hook it up and listen to it too... Anyone have any experience with these? Are they any good?
  4. Welcome to the Carver Site!
  5. I've heard a Bluesound Node, which used Burr Brown chips and it sounded quite good to me. I almost bought a Node 2i because of it (then I got this wild idea I'd build myself a streamer using a raspberry pi to save money....and well, that's a story for another day). I know that Bluesound has switched to the ESS chip in their Node X. Most online critics seem to like the change. But, I've not heard a Node X or anything with an ESS chip in it. The general consensus of online listeners (not measurers) seems to be that the Burr Brown chips are "warmer" sounding than the ESS, with the AKM somewhere in between. I really don't know what all that means. But, I do like the Schiit DAC's I've used with AKM chips. The tweeters I have are probably considered on the "bright" side given I mainly use Infinity speakers with the emit ribbon tweeters.
  6. This is a good thing for Tidal. I did not like their MQA music. I know supposedly it was better than bluetooth lossy format...but, I could never hear it. It's the reason I switched to Qobuz. Tidal did have a better interface and library... I might have to take another look at Tidal, now. I still like the fact that everything on Qobuz is CD resolution or better.... takes guesswork out of it.
  7. Yes! I had never listened to any Vail Johnson before....but, hearing that song, especially on the RAM285 and Maggie's Jim had set up in the Carver room at Axpona was really cool.
  8. One of my all time favorites....under appreciated Fleetwood Mac song.
  9. A little jazz tonight.... Heard this one for the first time at Axpona.... @Ar9Jim was playing it in the Carver room...

  12. Anyone remember this weird one hit alternative/post punk wonder from the early days of MTV? If you want to really explore the space of your system, this one has lots of...uh....."different"..... sounds in it.

  19. Welcome to the Carver Site! Genesis are some beautiful speakers. The Carver you have running the mid-range section.... do you know which model Carver amp?... Lot's of good folks here who can help, I'm sure.
  20. I'm struggling because I like so many different songs for demonstrating various aspects of speaker performance.... It would also depend on my emotional state and/or state of intoxication (and nature of intoxicant)...... Aw heck, I'll go with the song that first attracted me to Carver gear when I was young... Genesis- Abacab. the 2007 remastered version
