  5. Would be curious to know more about this person with 40 to 50 Carver units. That is an impressive collection! Does he intend to sell them once refurbished?
  6. Thank you @jazzman53! We are looking forward to it! I may be bringing some of my DIY speakers with me... (if I can manage to actually get my projects done, lol). And, I would love join you all for some hiking. I'm not fast either :).
  7. I look forward to meeting all you famous Carverites for the first time (Carver Fans? Carverheads?...... is there an official name for members of this clan?). My wife, Beth, and I will be in the treehouse 14-17th. We're gonna try to do some hiking while there, too. If there is any event or arrangements I can help with, let me know. I am an above average cook....and an even better grocery shopper. I'm glad to contribute in any way. My best talent is listening to and appreciating great sounding music :).

  12. Thanks, guys... this is all very interesting. I'm learning from everyone's comments. I was able to put the driver in a cabinet and test it out. I tried running it as you would with a conventional one amp/2 speaker setup- left and right channel from amp feeding separate voice coils. And, I tried running the voice coils in series with a mono input and lastly I tried the running the voice coils in parallel with a mono input. I used the same amp (M1.0t mkII Opt 2) for each setup. Honestly, there was very little difference in sound quality. If I had to pick one setup over the other, I'd pick the conventional setup for a 2 channel amp feeding the separate voice coils. So, I think that's how I will setup the final configuration. I'll post pictures of my project once I get to finishing the cabinet....... that may be a while down the road. I've got lots of projects starting to back up on me, lol! Thanks again for all the help.

Impressive. You basically have a concert venue in your home! (And, all the faceplates match....I knew I couldn't be the only one with that goal). How long has it taken you to compile all of this?
  14. Thanks, guys. That's helpful. Much appreciated.
  15. I have a question about a Dual Voice Coil subwoofer driver. I came across a sub driver that a friend had tried to build into his son's car... (he failed, mainly due to lack of motivation :)). It's a Dayton Audio 10" sub driver with Dual Voice Coils. I looked up the p/n... they go for $225, and have good reviews. So, I'm tempted to play with it. But, I have never dealt with a DVC driver. What's the advantage of having two voice coils? I know that you can change the impedance of the driver by wiring the coils in series vs. parallel. Other than that... is there any other potential advantage? If I had an amp that was stereo output only, could I feed left side output into one coil and right side into the other (or, would I even want to do that?). Or would it be better to feed the sub mono and wire the voice coils together (in series or parallel). Thanks for your thoughts.
  16. Welcome! As was mentioned, the OCCD already has you... you're in good company :).
  17. Hi @sea.... quick question for you. I've never been to Carverfest. But, I live reasonably close to where it's held. I'd like to come out this year. I am not really able to stay a week. But, I could maybe stay a night or two, or maybe just drop in for a day. It would be cool just to meet some of the folks I interact with on this site, maybe get a peek at some of the cool gear you all have....etc. Is that kind of attendance okay? What are your thoughts/advice?

  19. I love looking at these trends and to have lived through all these era's..... 45 RPM records when I was a kid, 8 track in mom and dad's car, Albums when I became a teenager, Cassette tapes when I started driving, CD's when that technology changed everything in the '80's, MP3's/Napster/Apple iTunes in the early 2000's, and now Streaming is King. All those eras were defined by advancing technology..... That's why the resurgence of vinyl is so fascinating. And the fact that kids are buying vinyl is even more interesting. t's "Record Store Day" weekend here in Charlotte. I think I'll head to my local favorite store today..."Repo Records".
  20. Saw this movie tonight. I enjoyed it. Great story of Casablanca records and Neil Bogart. Lots of great music references from the early/mid '70's. The movie rambles a bit and probably over emphasizes Bogart himself. But, there are some nice moments especially for those of us who grew up in the '70's.
  21. I have two m1.5t's. I run Infinity Kappa 8 speakers, which need a lot of amp. Even with just one m1.5t pushing (and even before Nelion upgraded the amp), the amp never got hotter than 100 deg at his warmest location. I have had instances where it got hotter, but those were always when I had something sitting directly on top of the amp and no way for it to breathe. So, if the amp is working hard and the top is blocked, it can get overheated. But, if you vent them, and maybe add a fan, should be no issue. Now with 2 m1.5't's pushing, and both upgraded to mkII by Nelion, I rarely see temps above 90 deg F on either of my amps.
