  1. Howdy Snoop65 and welcome to the forum. Glad you found us!
  2. Cool pix Steve! I'd like to see those folks from Time Warp have a go at it though.
  3. That's awesome! You are a very lucky man.
  4. All I can say is WOW! I'm guessing you aren't married....
  5. Welcome to the forum laatsch55. That's a sweet collection of classic gear.
  6. That's an excellent starter list donquixote99. I have recordings of most of your selections. For something fun I'd add "Chiller" by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra (Telarc CD 80189). It contains classical compositions with a Halloween theme that most people will recognize and is extremely well recorded (though not necessarily all that well well played). The opening sequence, a prelude to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Overture to Phantom Of The Opera, is a live recording of a thunderstorm that will test the best speakers to their limits. Here is a review: A campier beginning could not be conceived for this album of horror music than the one Telarc cooked up for Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops -- an opening sequence of thunder and frightened running in ear-splitting digital sound, followed by the hilarious haunted-house blast of an organ from The Phantom of the Opera. Yes, this is your worst nightmare come true, a symphonic Halloween album -- complete with sound effects -- that was evidently successful enough to spawn an SACD sequel, Scary Music, in 2002. In true "pops" concert fashion, Kunzel opens with classical selections with horror-related stories and eventually moves on to filmland for the rest of the package. Alas, Kunzel's relaxed way with the classics here isn't exactly calculated to raise the dead from their graves. Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" is a bit tame, made more palatable by the excellent sound; Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold" from Symphonie Fantastique is downright sluggish. "Pandemonium" from Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust (an imaginative choice) and Saint-Saëns' "Danse Macabre" are sturdier, though still too laid-back. Only Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" delivers sufficient energy. Many of the film cues, particularly those by the classic Hollywood composers, are more compellingly presented and surprisingly potent in musical interest, like the short reconstructed suite from Franz Waxman's The Bride of Frankenstein that ends up in the air. In "Sleigh Ride" from The Devil and Daniel Webster, Bernard Herrmann does inventive things with a fiddle tune that Copland famously used in "Rodeo," and his music for Psycho has already earned lots of respect in many circles (watch out for the over-the-top sound effects in the notorious shower scene!). Even though the classical numbers could use more pep, it's an engaging idea for an album, executed with dignity and some cunning. ~ Richard S. Ginell, Rovi

  10. Howdy Ron and welcome aboard. Don't mind the other inmates.
  11. I was busy too Steve. The boys had a gig this morning and their PA monitors were a bit iffy. Once we got the gear back in the basement I decided to do some troubleshooting. The pots on their old DeArmond powered 6-channel mixer were in dire need of cleaning. Took 2 cans of Radio Shack cleaner and a can of DeOxit but it's quiet as a church mouse now. One of their monitors and a vocal mike have been cutting out so I inspected and tested all the cables. Trashed a few cheapos, re-soldered lots of connections and added strain-relief to all the ones I kept. Still had an intermtitent problem with one of their 20 year old homemade monitors so I opened them up. The 15" "Boss" subwoofers appeared to have come out of the trunk of a low-rider but were still solid. However, the internal wiring was 20 ga zip cord and the connections were frayed so I replaced it with 14 ga. The 1" bullet tweeters were direct-wired (?) so I installed some spare XO's from a pair of trashed Infinitys. I felt a bit like Dr. Frankenstein (it's alive!) but the monitors sound 100% better and are much louder now.
  12. Well done Steve. Time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

  14. Howdy WillyD and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you onboard.
  15. Lookin good Jazzman! Questions: Are the drivers configured as a stereo pair (one left, one right), straight mono or push-pull? Will you be adding binding posts to the box or do you intend to wire them direct from the amp(s)? As for signal path I'd start simple and feed an output from your C-1 to your XO.
  16. Cool design Jazzman! Looks like it will pack a lot of punch into a small box.
  17. Some members have used THESE BLUE LEDs. Spec are listed on the catalog page.
  18. Howdy Sanford and welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to become a member. I haven't had hands-on experience with Emotiva products but they do get great reviews. Good luck with your new log home.
  19. Routers are relatively recent additions to the woodworker's tool kit. Ancient craftsmen did fine without them for tens of thousands of years.
  20. Nice restoration project emmjlm! Never owned K-horns but a friend of my dad's did and they were impressive. QUESTION: What type of adhesive did you use on the veneer that required heat activation? I use contact cement which bonds instantly but requires very accurate placement or routing to size.
  21. I found this Richter Scale Series III on ebay but it's local pickup only (CO) and it's missing the cal mike. The Behringer CX2310 utilizes 24/dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossover filters. Most of the time I fed my Richter Scale from a tape or processor loop and sent the sub out to my amp(s). In my current quad-amped setup I use a Behringer CX3400 located between my preamp and amp(s).
  22. Howdy Bill and welcome to the forum. You came to the right place for all things Carver. Post some pics of your (new) toys when you get a chance.
