  1. Howdy Jason and welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to join us. Looking forward to hearing more about your hobbies and projects. Please post some pics of your toys.
  2. Looks very clean. Low serial number too. Even the rack holes appear to have been drilled by a pro. You will probably want to upgrade those crappy no-way binding posts though.... CONGRATS!
  3. Nice system Mark. Thanks for the pics.
  4. Howdy Mark and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new toy.
  5. The veneer on my RS2001 is 1/8" but that's way thicker than normal and may be due to the rounded corners. As long your veneer is real wood (not sceen-printed plastic) you can sand it without concern. Nice score! Good luck with the refurb.
  6. That equates to $6,247.88 USD

  8. I thought the Regency had a 15" woofer?
  9. If it's left up to the music industry to delevop it'll probably get mucked up.
  10. Why Don't You Believe Me? by Joni James
  11. Did you mean to say sold in all 5 formats? Only a garage band would record themselves on 8-track or cassette.
  12. Howdy _Xanvier_ and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board the Carver train. What does the rest of your system consist of? Post a few pics of your toys please.
  13. Still in a "go big or go home" mode eh?
  14. Looks like we're gonna make a Carver convert out of you after all slbenz. BTW - The stock M-1.0t sounds pretty darn good, but wait till you hear the MKII!
  15. Bill has stated numerous times that he is NOT in the mod business to make money. He creates the mods for fun and does them for "friends" and forum members in good standing. Assuming he agrees to take on your project I'd expect to pay for parts and shipping (both ways if it's your unit). In the past he has declined to put a value on his labor but will usually accept a monetary "donation" or trade. My C-11 was Bill's personal test bed unit and I believe it is the 1st and only C-11 he has upgraded (so far). It has all new caps and op amps plus he designed and installed a balanced output card specifically for me. (Bill declined to drill holes in the back panel so I installed my own balanced sockets and terminated them.) It does NOT include the Sonic Holography circuit upgrade which was not created until a few months later. He pretty much gave it to me for $200 and I did some finish carpentry work for Bill in trade for his labor. At any rate, Bill is currently recovering from open heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic. It will be a while but he did say that he planned to work on more mods as therapy when he returns.
  16. Thanks for the system photo and description slbenz. VERY NICE! Unfortunately the anthracite C-1 kind of kills the stealth vibe you have going. You might consider a blackface C-11 which is otherwise virtually identical to the C-1. Here's a few shots of my BillD-modified C-11 (the 1/4" TRS sockets right rear are balanced outputs):
  17. That's a pretty good price if it's in decent shape. A DEAD M-1.0t recently sold for $266 on ebay! Seems to be a good thing. Looks like he his a moderator of this forum? SteveFord IS a mod here but I believe PDR is referring to the fact that Steve is a huge Maggie fan.
  18. Howdy slbenz and welcome to the forum. Glad you hopped on board the Carver train. The C-1 and it's black-faced brother the C-11 are great sounding preamps and favorites among many members. One CarverSite member (BillD) has made them even sweeter by updating them with modern components. The difference in sound quality is stunning and his mod turns a very good preamp into an exceptional one. For more info check out these threads on the C-1 and C-11. When you have time please post some photos of your toys for us to admire.
  19. Howdy Carlton and welcome to the forum. Glad you found your way back!
  20. Howdy Rob and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your repair. I look forward to reading about your project.
  21. Back when I was single and had disposable income I'd spend hours at Chicago Digital in Oak Park, IL. They sold new and used CD's, had a huge selection, and let you listen to any disc prior to purchase. It wasn't unusual for me to spend $200 there almost every week. For LP's I would search through the bargain bins at Tower Records or Westchester Music regularly. I estimate that close to 70% of my vinyl collection was purchased for less than $5 per record. To expand my horizons I listened to WXRT (AOR) and WBEZ (jazz) plus a number of local college stations. I also subscribed to numerous free or inexpensive samplers such as the A Little on the CD Side series. These days I watch “What are you listening to right now?” and pick up most of my music at yard/garage sales.

    Halloween Music

Telarc's Chiller is my favorite Halloween compilation. It's also really, REALLY well recorded. I have the opening sequence (thunder, squeeky door, screams, etc.) looping on the front porch right now.
  23. From the Linkwitz Lab web site: For DIY budgetary purposes consider that the minimum material cost for the ORION project, including tax and shipping, is approximately $3700, without power amplifiers. Construction Kit $350 Tweeters (4), Midranges (2), Woofers (4) $2100 Cabinetry $500 ASP crossover/equalizer $650 Cables, interconnects etc $100 Power amplifiers (12x60w or 6x180w) $1835 If the speakers were sold through the normal distribution channels, the retail price for the complete ORION system would have to be over $22,000.
  24. I assume he built himself or bought a set of Linkwitz Lab's Orion speakers.
  25. PICS, PICS, PICS! So say we all.
