  1. Welcome back Steve! If changing email addies is anything like changing avatars, it takes a while for the page to update. If it still hasn't changed after a few hours let us know and an Admin will look into it.
  2. Thanks David. This quote is for you and Kathy:
  3. Some early Carver gear and most units sold at military exchanges are dual voltage. Check the service manual for yours. Also, look inside the dust cover(s). My M-200t has voltage conversion instructions glued to the inside.
  4. I "fixed" your photo for you. Here's my response to another member about EXIF data tags and photo orientation:
  5. Functioning C-19's with good cosmetics sell for $800-900 but you can buy a C-1/C-11 for $250-350 or a C-6/C-16 (basically a C-19 without the tubed outputs) for $400-500 and run the outputs through a stand-alone tube buffer. A stock Sunfire Vacuum Tube Control Center/preamp sells for around $1,000. Units with the optional phono section are so rare that I wouldn't be surprised to have to pay $1,800-2000 for one. Note that there are only two service shops I'd be comfortable sending a Sunfire to for repairs - Flannery's Vintage Audio Repair and Hi-Tech Audio, Ltd. - and both are in the US (Pacific Northwest).
  6. Howdy Joey and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board. Please tell us more about yourself, your past and current audio systems, and your taste in music. If you have system photos you can post them in Member's Systems. As for Carver preamps, it's hard to beat the MM/MC phono circuits in a BillD-modified C-1/C-11. Here's a quote from Bill Dibble's original C-1 upgrade thread. (Sadly Bill passed away in 2012, however, many CS members continue to do these mods as a tribute.)
  7. Thanks David. That's a great read.
  8. Howdy Kawiphil and welcome to the forum. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Points for posting pics!
  9. Cheers! Enjoy the music.
  10. "Music is indeed the most beautiful of all Heaven’s gifts to humanity wandering in the darkness. Alone it calms, enlightens, and stills our souls. It is not the straw to which the drowning man clings; but a true friend, refuge, and comforter, for whose sake life is worth living.” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
  11. Howdy RTM and welcome back. Thanks for the intro. Lots of great gear on your have/had list. Please post some photos of your gear so we don't have to beg you for them.
  12. Howdy Jim and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you aboard. Hold on tight, it's gonna be a powerful, musical, accurate ride!
  13. Maybe you're cursed.... I haven't bought many NEW albums in the last 10 years. I hit yard sales and thrift stores and rarely pay more than $5.
  14. Come on Steve. Try reading the entire description. It works equally well with 33's, 45's and 78's. As for cost, the current exchange rate makes it about $2,500. It's used by radio stations, studios, and the Library of Congress.
  15. There's this new-fangled gadget called the internet.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/SIMON-GARFUNKEL-Bridge-Over-Troubled-Waters-LP-Half-Speed-Audiophile-NM-/201907137482
  16. A unit like this will do the trick:
  17. Equalization (of one sort or another) has been applied to vinyl since as early as the 1920's, however, it wasn't "standardized" until the mid to late 50's. It applies to mono AND stereo recordings.
  18. Try the 1980 CBS Mastersound pressing of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".
  19. While it's true that "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" seems to me you were being overly cautious. For me (and I suspect for many of our members) a great deal of the fun of this "hobby" is experimenting.
  20. Yes, the original pressings were available in mono and stereo. I have both and like the mono version best.
  21. That's been an issue on and off for several years now. That, and the system crashes, should be resolved when the new software is implemented.
  22. Howdy neptuneslair and welcome to the forum. Great to have you on board and jonesing for some Carver gear. The C-1 and it's black-faced sibling (the C-11) are great preamps with excellent phono sections (MM and MC). The C-1 matches up well (sonically and cosmetically) with M-series amps (M-500t, M-1.0t, M-1.5t, M-4.0t). The C-11 pairs well with TFM-series amps Good luck with your quest!
  23. Here's a scan of the track list: And these are Marks notes for each track:
