Must keep me entertained at all times.... Actually it looks like a ingenious solution. Now do I want to try to build yours or MadMike's.......

  3. Doug: 2 words: DIY Sonotube. You can get VERY GOOD sound quality for a low cost. Plus Sonotube's are easy to build lol. Otherwise I would suggest looking at some SVS subs, I am partial to the cylinder ones cause they are just cool looking to me.
  4. MediaMonkey will let you do a bunch at once IIRC. Its a free program that you can use to manage your library. It also can be used in place of iTunes for iOS devices. I dont recall off the top of my head how to set it up, but you can configure it so that when you sync your iOS device to it, it downconverts the FLAC file to a specific bitrate MP3 on the fly so your not storing 2 versions of the file on your computer. I am sure a google would turn up the settings to change, I just dont have time to do one
  5. The Kappa 9's test an amp. They are the Gandolf of LOTH. Most amps end up like the Balrok "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!" I would run them with a Carver M1.0t which is enough of an amp to run them IMHO.
  6. Yup, the Kappa series is one I would love to try on for size at some point, and the 9's are on my list to boot lol.....
  7. Well when you want to move on from that setup, let me know . It would be worth the 8 hour roadtrip to purchase and transport back here lol.... I know your playing with a bigger bass setup, so let me know if your wanting to sell the 2 sub towers you have... I bet they would mate pretty good with 125 watts from my Carver 705x and my LSi 15's . Would love your thoughts on mating OB bass with box speakers...
  8. Thats kinda where my thoughts go as well, 500 total isnt a massive investment for something that could very well be made into a "statement" piece for my office, while I wait for us to get a house which hopefully will give me either a nice big basement to play in, or at least a bigger office.... Or they could possibly end up replacing my Polk LSi's which are somewhat harder to drive and require a dedicated amp, whereas these would open me up to being able to move back to maybe getting a big hoss of an AVR like the Pio SC-67 and be done with it which saves me on IC's...
  9. So to keep this post short, I will say the following: Over thanksgiving I had the opportunity to go listen to Mark's Open Baffle speaker setup. It consists of 3 8" Tang Bang Full Range Drivers per speaker running full range without a crossover. He also had 4 10" Goldwin sub drivers crossed over at 65hz. All these were purchased from Parts Express. The total cost for his open baffle system is a bit out of my reach to say the least (each 8" driver was 210 and each 10" was 15) lol.... But I cant get how it sounded out of my head. It was one of the most AWESOME sounds ever and I have been somewhat searching for how to get that sound in my home office ever since. So I have been looking at trying out some Open Baffle stuff in my office. I was talking PDR and he steered me toward some Open Baffle speaker designed by Dannie Ritchie (formerly of AV123 now with GR Research). These speakers were originally marketed under the now defunct AV123 brand but are still availible as a kit with just the drivers and crossovers you build the cabinets from plans. As I have relatives who happen to be carpenters so I am sure I could have them build them for me out of whatever material I want/need as well as finish them for me. The kit runs 379 for a pair plus shipping. More info here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=90911.0. Given the spec's you still need some sort of sub in the mix as the speakers only go down to 65 hz, but overall they look like they could be good. I am looking to know if anyone has seen/heard these, if so what impressions they have of them, and/or if they know of a kit or DIY suggestion around the same price. Mark and I have gone over some other driver options that are cheaper than the TangBang's and I still may end up going that route, but these speakers just look to be pretty good at what they do (from all the reviews I have read) and are a MUCH smaller footprint than what I would be looking at if I was using 8" drivers. I already thought about having a guy from another forum build the crossovers for me either using the parts he has access to, or possibly the parts that come with the kit, but I havent nailed down any kind of pricing. So thoughts/suggestions/things to consider would be appreciated. -------Original Post Break------Begin Aside------------ As an aside Mark and I have gone over just about all the full range drivers on Parts Express website and the ones we somewhat narrowed things down to on spec's and cost per driver were the 5" Tang Band W5-1611SAF , the 3" Peerless 830986 Full Range Woofer, and the 8" Visaton 3020 BG20. We were looking for full range drivers that can dig below 65 hz decently, realizing I would still need to augment just about all of these with a sub, and at minimum use 4 drivers per side (with the 3" drivers I would need to use TONS to get a good cone surface) and use increments of 2 so as to wire them in parallel. We didnt want to have to use a tweeter at all and I wanted originally to avoid using a crossover at all, but the X-Statix looks intriguing so I wanted to take a deeper look at it, especially given that it was recommended to me by another member that has a ridiculous OB setup himself (that I could never afford however). For those interested in how Marks setup looks, I stole this pic of Marks setup from a Carverfest thread elsewhere. I hope he's ok with me showing off his work
  10. Fixed
  11. Yeah, the line array's on Parts Express's site have always interested me. They had a much cheaper version built out of PVC tubing as the housing....
  12. Bi-amping on your LSi 15's isnt worth it. Your TFM will provide more than adequate power for them. If you were to do anything either make some custom jumpers of your own, or get some bi-wire speaker cables. I drive my LSi 15's with a Carver AV-705x and they sound great with just the 705x. I have a Carver M1.0t at Vintage Hi-Fi getting a tune up and it will be driving them shortly. I have done the db840 mod on mine and they do sound much better. I would suggest waiting till Crutchfield has a buy one get one free sale on the Polk stuff. They do that sale every couple months. You could save yourself a couple bucks doing that. Plus then you will be able to hear the difference between the stock and aftermarket sub. The TFM-25 would be much better suited for the SDA's or heck even use it for the LSi's and the 35 for the SDA's Thanks! Helicopterpilotdoug is hooking me up with some cables and I'm going to also get him to make me some jumpers. I'll use the 35 on the LSi's till my shop is finished out then I should have the 25 back and I'll decide which amp goes where. I really appreciate the feedback! My shop is just bare walls right now and hopefully this week we will be runnng the 100a electric service to it, then wiring, insulation and drywall. Gonna be nice having a playhouse! NP. BTW my username on the Polk Forum is EndersShadow since your a member there as well
