Sk1Bum 10,556 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Hermanos Gutierrez, Sonido Cósmico was released on June 14, 2024. "The title of Ecuadorian-Swiss band Hermanos Gutiérrez’s new album translates to “cosmic sound.” It’s a bit literal for the type of moody, cross-cultural, instrumental music that the band makes, but the name also seems to capture something deeper, more spiritual between brothers Alejandro and Estevan." "It’s something of a family affair – Gilmour’s wife Polly Samson writes most of the lyrics, son Charlie contributes words to Scattered, and daughter Romany sings on Between Two Points – and its songs are long stewed in discussions chez Gilmour around the pandemic and matters beyond. Over her brief career, she has become a decorated leader for the new generation of jazz, R&B, and gospel. Not much else I could find on the net as far as reviews go, but if you like sax driven smooth jazz in the same flavor as David Sanborn, you will most likely love this album, and all five of Dr. Ghent's albums. 1 1 1

Sweet! I wish I could do that, maybe later. On my way to the gym for leg day. The goal for today is to squat 270 lbs for a set of 60 reps. Longer term is to do 270 (or more) for a set of 70. Some caveats, I can't do barbell squats because of arthritic shoulders, so this is on a machine. 270 lbs on the machine feels like 225 on a barbell. For my 51st brithday, I squatted 225 for a set of 51, and I'd like to do something comparable for my upcoming 70th. I've only got about a couple of months to go. 🤞🤞🤞 2
Sk1Bum 10,556 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Beth Hart, You Still Got Me was released on October 25, 2024. "With Beth’s latest album following on from the huge successes of The Zep Tribute album and the incredible War on my Mind there was a chance things could slip but You Still Got Me offers up some quirky, some sublime and a whole dollop of beautiful and like the great lady this could be her most vulnerable album to date." Sk1Bum 10,556 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Rei Narita, Shoot for The Moon was released on Nov 10, 2024, "Rei Narita is often called Asia’s foremost pioneer of Smooth Jazz, but he merits specific comparisons that reflect his melodic excitement and rhythmic energy. The wildly prolific artist, who has released an astounding 20-plus singles over the past three years, may remind you of adventurous genre greats like David Benoit and Brian Culbertson. The sparkle, fire, groove and dynamic improvisations on his latest ambitious, well-titled single “Shoot for the Moon” expresses the artist's intention to create a new type of music that has evolved from Smooth Jazz... Pushing the musical envelope, or shooting for the moon in this case." https://www.smoothjazz.com/jazzblasts/jetstream/49822/rei-narita 2
Sk1Bum 10,556 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Marion Meadows, Just Doing Me was released on Oct 25, 2024. Sk1Bum 10,556 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Richard Elliot, Straight Up Down was released on September 6, 2024. "Richard Elliot is an icon of smooth jazz. His soulful playing and catchy melodies have made him a beloved figure in the genre. He has rightly placed himself as a tenor saxophonist on the same level as the legends Johnny Griffin, Gene Ammons, Coleman Hawkins, Grover Washington Jr. and Michael Brecker, all of whom have influenced him. His new album Straight Up Down (2024) is another building block in cementing this reputation. The album was produced and mixed by Paul Brown, Euge Groove and Kevin Flournoy. Richard Elliot was accompanied by the studio musicians listed in the credits. An elaborate production with numerous musicians. Apart from one cover, the songs were written by the musicians involved." BobTFM35 2,339 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) Very sweet sound, love it!! They left out his idol and inspiration,“Dexter (Gordon) is still my guy. I was around 18 years-old when I went to a club called Concerts By The Sea in Los Angeles. It was truly a life changing moment for me,” shares Richard Elliot. “This big man came out on stage with this low voice and this huge tenor sound. I had already been playing for a few years but when I heard him, I thought to myself ‘I’m doomed. I will never ever come up with a sound anywhere near this guy.’ It really was life changing to hear him play.” Inspired by Dexter and the likes of other tenor legends like Johnny Griffin, Gene Ammons, Coleman Hawkins, Grover Washington Jr. and Michael Brecker,....... Receiver2000 3,182 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I have been to Concerts by the Sea in Redondo Beach on the pier a long time ago. Good jazz club. Got damaged in the later '80's by a storm and it was gone. Need more jazz clubs like that.
