kve777 6,888 Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Velodyne makes very nice subs. So does Rythmik. 2
BarryG 2,853 Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 I heard a pair of Rythmik servo controlled subs that were outstanding! I’m considering building an open Baffle servo controlled sub powered by a Rythmik plate amp! 1 3
Rob 5,977 Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 After going into the Ecotopia store, the dilemma was enhanced 7 fold. 1
Rob 5,977 Posted October 5, 2020 Author Posted October 5, 2020 VanDersteens, Ohm's, Maggies, Marten Logans, Vonschweikert, Polks. They were all there but no way to listen to them because he has no room. 1
trucheli 17 Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 IMO it all depends how you listen to music, like me if you listen to music sitting down and you want to have good image and presence I would get a pair of used magnepan with a subwoofer My system have in the front Maggies MG1.6 driven by a TFM55 in the rear hanging from the ceiling Maggies LRS Driven by TFM42 Center Channel Maggies MC1 driven by AV705 also the AV705 is used for the 2 subwoofers and the 2 outside JBL patio speakers For some weird reason when I have the volume too loud the lights in the living room dimms with the music 🤷♂️ 1 9

Brian_at_HHH 2,691 Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 You DO love your Rabbit Holes, don't you @Rob !! Wish I could offer and opinion, but I've only ever heard one set of Carver speakers and that was circa 1983-ish. I do remember they sounded, dare I say, Amazing. 2

kve777 6,888 Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 If you like Cerwin Vega, you probably won't like Carver Amazings, I, II, III or IV. 1

Yes I do like Cerwin-Vega’s but i also like others. And would like to keep my V15E’s and also have something else for a bit of a difference. I really liked the speakers that @jazzman53 built but he won’t make anymore. LOL So clean and clear. Edited October 8, 2020 by Rob 1
Rob 5,977 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) I know that I will probably get some, Ata boys and some WTF's but I am still in that dilemma stage at this time. So I just found a pair of Bose 901's (1968's) in pretty good shape and with EQ box that a friend had sitting around. Well Saturday morning they should be in my house hooked up and listening to them. Rob 5,977 Posted October 31, 2020 Author Posted October 31, 2020 I have been grabbing speakers left and right and listening to them to see how they differ in performance. I am looking for people to offer their knowledge on brand upgrades if there are any. I.E. tweeter, crossover, inductors, capacitors. I have a few pair I want to work on. RTR Series 2 Ohm K2 Polk Monitor 10b I know these are smaller speakers but they sound good and they are stock. 3
RodH 4,866 Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 That's a can of worms, Rob. What sounds good to you might not sound so good to the next guy. I tweak speakers constantly. Sometimes I win, often I do not. But I look to make them sound good to me. We all have different hearing, and preferences. Experiment. See (hear) what works and what doesn't. Make small changes, pay attention to the SPL 'efficiency' of drivers you swap out, look at the frequency ranges of drivers before you change them. It's fun when you don't get too hung up on what others have done. Just be sure you don't make any changes you can't reverse and try things. 2 2

Well Rod, I haven't taken anything apart and experimented with resistors or anything like that. Though I did hook up the Polk 10B's and the Ohm K2's together on my MXR and that really sounded nice. Maybe the combination of speakers was what I was looking for. But this morning I made a little trip and picked up a speaker project. Polk SDA-SRS2 and by looking at the covers, Sorry CAT owners, he had at least one cat and they had their way with those speaker grills. I will need a speaker interconnect cable or whatever it is called and 1 speaker needs a refoam. And it has these oval tweeters in one of them. Don't have any idea why they did that. But the price was good so I jumped at it. So a couple questions that could be answered by someone, would be great. Is the tweeter in the one pick no good and what about these crazy oval speakers? One has it and the other doesn't. And can I use the 6.5 inch drivers from the Monitor 10B's in these? How many watts per channel are these? Seems like there are more than 1 configuration and having a hard time finding this out. @Dnspy007 I thought you had some big Polk's. Edited November 8, 2020 by Rob 1 2
RodH 4,866 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Is the goop on that original tweeter the same as the goop around the abortion tweeters? If it were my project, the first thing I would do is pull each driver and give it a quick resistance check. 1 1

And that abortion tweeter is coming out and I will figure out a way to fill that in. Edited November 8, 2020 by Rob 1
RodH 4,866 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 The SDA Handbook (2011 R2) Crossover is on page 80 (I think) 1 1
Rob 5,977 Posted November 8, 2020 Author Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) So if I am correct, these are the 4th generation SDA SRS-2? Edited January 13, 2023 by Rob

Yeah, I totally get that. I have to put hard covers over my grills after every use. It was that or replace them with electrified wire mesh. 🙀 Fortunately, grill cloth can be replaced. BTW, congrats - nice addition. I won't offer help, but it seems there are lots of folks here who can. 😸 1
Rob 5,977 Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 Well @RodH I removed the abortion speakers (Sharp tweeters) which a cant believe how people destroy things. STUPID!!! I think there is a bad cap in the crossover because there is nothing going to any tweeter. Only the 6.5 inch drivers have sound. So I can recap these and go from there.
gburke 368 Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Did you figure out if the 6.5s are interchangeable?
