Keep in mind that with speakers that old, there is a significant chance that the surrounds, or the diaphragm itself of the Walsh speaker may have some problems. Problems. Probably only a handful of people in the country who can work on them. One of the companies that can work on them, they actually repaired. My focal t-120s, is called speaker repair pros in garden Grove, California

I can confirm that Speaker Repair Pros are great. They have worked on a couple pairs for me.

The people at Ohm in NY are still selling and repairing along with upgrades available.

I will keep the Speaker pro's in mind. One set of the Walsh 4's are completely upgraded as well as the other I's. The guy sent everything to NY to have the Ohm company do all the work. A lot of items can be purchased and then send in the old ones for repair. Kind of like a core exchange.

The guy also has a new set of top cones for the other Walsh 4's.

I went and got the Walsh 4's for a test drive. This gentleman has been kind enough to let me set these up in my living room and enjoy them. The tops have been rebuilt and the cabinets are in very good condition. He has other sets and rebuilt cans still in the box.

These sound amazing period!!!

Find a pair of cerwin vega 380se’s. These will play Lower , and sound a lot better than your V-15’s. When these came out, they warmed the hearts of a few audio magazine critics, for their overall sound quality.
I have owned a pair of d9’s and At15’s. Imo, they cannot touch the 380 se’s for power handling and sound quality. I bought a pair about 5 years back. Ran the piss out of them with my old pm1.5a and current pm1201. Only problem that I have encountered is one of the leads going into the voice coil let go.( from age/ excursion )Voice coil itself is fine. I literally ran 400+ watts rms into them for 5-6 hours at a time.  Find a pair, and recap the crossovers. They only made them for a few years… so they will be hard to find.

I have had plenty of CV's in my day and don't get me wrong, I really like CV's. BUT, they are made for rockin and pounding. lol

I have had those days and plenty of them to the point that I wanted to discover other speakers and their abilities in different applications.

Of all the CV's I have tried, the most disappointment I got was when I bought some D9's. I was sure that they could match up and have a better sound than my V15-E's but that wasn't the case. And also, I haven't found a set of speakers that will take all of the 500 watts that my M4.0t MKII can push.

I do have a set of Ohm I's that are in the process of rebuilding which are supposed to handle 1500 watts. But until then, my V15's are what I got to use and I think they sound great in the room I have them in.

No CV will match what the Polk SDA SRS's can sound like or these Ohm Walsh 4's. But then again it is a different application and totally different room size. When I want to get heavy I go downstairs and when I want to be mellow or watch movies, then I'm upstairs. CV's downstairs, Walsh4's upstairs.

With the Polk's it seemed like I had to use the tv as a center channel to get the voices at a decent level to hear what they were saying but not with the Walsh 4's.

They are so full and have incredible bass as they are down firing and ported out the bottom with directional mids and tweets on top. And the direction of them can be changed with the switches on the back.

CV's are a totally different kind of speaker and I know they won't give me what I want with only 2 speakers.

I have never personally heard the 380se, but I know in the CV world, they are a very sought after speaker.

The 380se’s are 4 ohms. The pm1250 I’m running is 600 wpc into 4 ohm stereo. 500 clean watts rms would be no problem for the 380se’s. Imo, their 405 watt rating is on the conservative side lol.

Indeed. I have no idea why Cv only made them for a few years. I have only seen 2 pair for sale around these parts in the last 15 years. I bought one of the pairs. 😆

The V15E's are 4 to 8 ohms. So I am sure the M4.0t is over the 500 mark at different times. But I'm not into the 5 hour energy stuff. Already been through that age and I have it available if need be.

It seems every speaker I've owned has had their pluses and minuses, have yet to find one that is perfect. Even my current Franken-Klipsch creation as good as they sound now it took the right equipment matching to bring out their best.

Yup.. sometimes a combination of parts from different models of the same manufacturer… yields the best results.

Was with my wife and if she didn't already have so much crap that she carries in her car

It is an amazing trait that they have...

I remember my mother would have a trunk full of "returns" at every point in time.

Every girlfriend and now my wife.

It makes it impossible to track down that "rattle" with a trunk full of sh.t.

The refurb and upgrades are finally started and the first shipment of drivers are on their way to the Ohm Corp. for rebuilds. Mid/woofers with SBA's and Low Tweeters are first on the agenda.

Next will be the Subwoofers getting shipped out for their rebuilds and upgrades with SBA's. Here are the upgrades still available for these beasts.

There are many upgrades for the Ohm Is. The 12" sub-woofer can get a SubBass Activator and vent adapter to extend the bass below 28 Hz. The 8" mid-woofer can get a new cone with a smoother transition to the low tweeter. The Low Tweeter can go to the new 2" metal dome. The front high tweeter can go to the 3/4" metal dome tweeter. The crossover can have upgrade poly-caps.

I haven't made up my mind on the crossovers yet. I want really good caps for these and there aren't very many at all so I can spend more on better ones.

Opinions on quality and types of caps are welcome all you speaker builders. 😉

Tekton Polycell, or if you want to spend the Money, their Encore.

https://tektondesign.com/product/full-range-speakers/flagship/polycell-15/#color

1500watts.

https://tektondesign.com/product/full-range-speakers/flagship/encore/#color

800 watts.

My Double Impact SE handle 500watts.

https://tektondesign.com/product/full-range-speakers/flagship/double-impact-se/#color

While I have personally not heard the Moabs, I heard their mid-range response was … less than stellar.. If I could have afforded the Encores, I probably would have got those. But my DI/SE sounds really good. Both have actual mid range drivers in addition to the arrays.

my maggie 1.7i do not handle bass as well.  Currently have a pair of the Tekton 2-10 subs working with the 1.7i pair and this works well… until the maggies start to have weird sounds in the bass..  thinking of high passing those from 100hz at the amp input, 12db drop, and raising sub freq up to match.

@radtraveller I was talking about capacitors. These speakers can handle over 1000 watts so I'm not looking for speakers. ~^

I have listened to Kevins Tektons and they do sound very good but I also heard these Ohm I's and they are all I need.

And a lot cheaper. But thank you for the insight .

I was in Palm Springs a year or so ago and if my wife didn't have so much crap in her car I would have come home with a pair of these Ohm Walsh 2's for $200. Probably needed the top foam replaced but there is a great local speaker repair place that could easily handle that. I like the omni- directional speakers for just background music. I have a pair of Harmon Kardon HK-50's that are omni that i use for background. Wouldn't use them in my listening room but might use the Ohms. Be fun to try them anyway. I think that they like lots of power.

Those Walsh 2 are great little speakers. I am enjoying my Walsh 4's in my home theater system.

Been working on these Ohm I's for about 6 months. Started by sending in the Mid-Woofers back in May and then John passed away so things were on idle for awhile. I sent in the subwoofer in October and received it pretty quickly. Also at the same time I had sent in the Low tweeters and had been waiting for them to be repaired. I talked to someone at the Ohm Corporation the other day, I really need to ask his name, and he told me by next week they would be shipped out.

The subwoofer rebuild and shipping was free for my patience with everything. I thought that was very cool of the company to do that. I never expected that.

I bought the caps and will install them this week. Yes, lots of projects to start the year. Cant wait to get these bad boys up and running.
