Rob 5,985 Posted September 23, 2021 Author Posted September 23, 2021 Thanks John. I put a lot of time in these and the stain matching wasn't an easy task so I finally grabbed the dark walnut and kept applying coats until they finally were close. I think I already have a buyer. 1 2
davidc 366 Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 VMPS bandwagon here again...sorry. I'm not quite sure if these would play loud enough or have enough bass for you. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224632375417?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5336466135&toolid=10001&customid=23608X823435X8ff82d54cf2db6abb4e6971517a20a87 But, in actuality, these speaker won many top awards and reviews in their day. All the mainstream and golder ear reviewers put they in number 1, 2, or 3 of the best speakers they had ever heard. I believe they won Best In Show at the CES more than once. 2 2
Rob 5,985 Posted October 8, 2021 Author Posted October 8, 2021 😂 Did the hockey games move to GA? Those look like old school MOAB's. My dilemma has quieted down for awhile since I redone the CV D9's and got another 4.0 in the mix. I know there are a lot of guys out here with much better and more powerful equipment than what I have but I am VERY SATISFIED for the time being. Definitely no need for a subwoofer and if you want treble you have it also. 4.0 MKII hooked up to the CV PA's and the stock 4.0 hooked up to the CV D9's in the room I use for music listening is just crazy powerful for me. 1 3 1

Rob 5,985 Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 Finally with all this extra time on my hands again this summer because of part shortages, yes I am laid off again. I pulled up the Polk's to the garage and giving them a cosmetic restore. Been wanting to do this for a long time but Benn enjoying them with different amps and such. Hopefully I will have them finished by this weekend. This is the ugly one that someone cut the whole in it and decided to add their own style of tweeters. I mixed up some epoxy to try and even out the wood piece I used to fill the hole. Need the epoxy to fill in the cracks mostly. I bought the oak veneer and they will have new sides as well as new fabric on the sides. 3
Brian_at_HHH 2,691 Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 Sorry you are laid off, but those Polk's are starting to look real good! Please keep posting as the evolve! 2

Its actually getting to be a normal thing these days. but just as long as I get 1600 hours in a year then I get the 1 year of service towards retirement and that's all I care about right now. I will post more pics but right now I will let the epoxy cure over night and get back on it tomorrow afternoon. It is drying up nicely. 2 1
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,463 Posted July 20, 2022 Community Admin Posted July 20, 2022 Everything presents an opportunity! Looks like you have this figured out, @Rob 😉 I go to work every day, with an un-dated resignation letter at the ready..., hoping I get some signal to just friggin' quit. Played it out in my head a hundred times or more. Are those SDA 1C's I have the same project. My Polk SDA 1C's are functionally mint, internals are completely redone. I just need to redo the wood base and top, and redo the grill cloth to make them perfect. What Carver amp do you find drives them best? 2 1
BarryG 2,853 Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 I have SDA 1b’s. Polk still stocks many of the old drivers, In most cases the replacements are better than the originals! 1 2
Rob 5,985 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 They are the SDA SRS 2 3rd gen. Currently I have the PT1250 hooked to them. I think @BarryGshipped me the tweeters for one and @Daddyjtshipped me the umbilical cord. I joined the Polk forum to learn about the tweeter and crossover upgrades and decided to leave them stock for now. I have enough fabric to do the sides and I think the covers are in pretty good shape. Just need to re-glue some edges. 3
Rob 5,985 Posted July 21, 2022 Author Posted July 21, 2022 Got about 75% of this speaker done. I am liking the outcome so far. 5
Brian_at_HHH 2,691 Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 SWEET! 😎 Nice work. Those are going to be eyecatchers, as well as earcatchers when you finish! 1
4krow 6,605 Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 You're gonna have to teach me to paint like that. 1
Rob 5,985 Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Got one finished today. The other will be finished tonight. 2 3
Rob 5,985 Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Now just need to put the guts back in them. 2 2 2
