What's the biggest subwoofer or sub enclosure you have ever seen or had the chance to hear.

Just don't leave a full coffee cup on it when you decide to crank the volume!

My next DIY sub will likely be a pair of Devastator horn subs.

https://shop.gsgad.com/collections/horn-subwoofers

My only concern is what tuned frequency version to buy, 19Hz or 28Hz ?

For the moment I am running a pair of Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO Sub-woofer Kits that I modified to double the cabinet thickness buy adding 1" of Baltic Birch on all sides. https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-18-Reference-Series-HO-Subwoofer-and-Cabinet-P-300-7094

Power is provided by a pair of Crown XTi4000 amps in MONO

I would like a Speakerpower amp or a pair of big Krells to drive them.

https://www.speakerpower.net/store/p31/SP2-8000-HT_Dual_Mono_Subwoofer_Rack_Amplifier.html

At over 200lbs each, I can no longer lift them onto the stands by myself.

Before I moved a few years ago, I had them on stands I built that absorb vibrations and standing waves.

I really need a larger room... 😪

My thoughts as well. I just don't believe there is a lot of information at 20Hz in most music I listen to.

It is my "HOPE" that the horn subs will provide the visceral impact of a kick drum without being boomy or muddy.

Felt some big woofers at the last concert I attended (only $11) ... this is also where I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan, who a few years later died in a helicopter leaving Alpine Valley. My brother never showed, so I got to keep a full ticket for bragging rights. Unfortunately Richie was not there... godspeed Stevie.

I saw a picture a few years back where a guy poured his basement floor and formed the concrete into ports and mounted some kind of huge subs down under the floor. Cant remember the details but it was pretty elaborate and crazy looking.

Bob told a story one time about doing some R&D work for Boeing. The made a sub woofer about the size of a garage door and used hydraulic cylinders to pulse it. Something to do with using it in the wind tunnel.😬

No trial and error when pouring the concrete.  Lol.  Hard to do over or modify. Would be interesting though.

I think this may be the one you are talking about - 110db @ 10hz, 1w / 1 meter...  https://gizmodo.com/horn-subwoofer-takes-up-crazy-mans-entire-basement-5025867

No affection for El Pipe-O

Nelson Pass designed and built that in the 1980s. Those pipe chambers are Sonotubes, cardboard forms used for pouring support pillars.

His Kleinhorn project is even goofier than these.

He was last on site in November 2019.

If he has notifications still on, this might get his attention.

@basspig, are you out there?

Sending him a PM might work too.
