I recently got my Carver TFM45 working form the help of you guys on this forum and looking to get some new speakers for it and could use your opinions. We currently have Bose 10.2 series 2 but they are very borken and half the speakers are not working. They have been through a tough life.

What do you guys think of Polk Rti12 or Bower and Wilkins 683 S1. They are sort of in the price range below $700. Im really looking for something that does not need an additonal sub to hits the lows but something that wont break if one night after drinking we turn it up to much.

Let me know what speakers you are running with these big amps.

I've heard a lot of people say that Polk SDA's and Carver amps is a good combo! I think there is a grounding issue with some combination and Carver but someone brighter can explain if I'm right or not. Good luck on the speaker hunt!

I am currently using a TFM-45 to run a pair of Tekton Pendragon speakers. They will do exactly what you ask for. I paid $700 for mine. Used. Haven't broken them yet.

Damn kev, where do you find your speaker deals!  I usually find amps at a good price, not so on speakers!

The 45 does a nice job on Polk SDAs, no grounding issue, the m-500tand some m-1.0t models are not common ground and can’t be used on them, the 45 works well on every speaker I’ve hooked them to.

You might consider the NHT 2.5(i) or 2.9s. They're generally below the $700 price range, and they're highly regarded here by those that have them. I'm tire kick shopping for some 2.5i's to use as the rear speakers in my HT. I have the NHT 3.3s for the front.

I have a set of 2.5i that I’d let go to a forum member for $250 (listed on local classifieds for $350).

local is SLC UT. I’d be willing to drive 3 hours or so to meet in any direction.

I also have my Legacy Focus 20/20 for sale - $1,500 to a forum member (listed for $1,750 local).

the 2.5i:

Dammit Mark. :D

I just spent the coin for a used Ortofon 2M Black stylus.

If you still have them in May, will you let me know. Don't hold them, if you get the chance to sell them, let them go!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Those NHT 2.5i seems like they would be awesome to have but im located in Clagary AB and there are none in my area. I'm still on the fence about the polk Rti 12 so the hunt continues.

Polk LSI series are great speakers. I have LSI-9's and they are excellent, but not real powerful on bass. LSI-15's have much better bass response. If you really crave bass, I have some ALS Platinums I could hook you up with, but shipping is next to impossible.

I recently picked up a pair of the ST4's locally  for $150 ... $600 seems steep.

I really like them.

Remember that is Canadian dollars so... lol

Infinity RS-IIIa's sound really nice with a Carver M1.0t mkII opt002 and with an M500t mkII. $450 is a very good price too.

Hey guys thanks for your suggestions. we went out a tested a whole bunch of speakers around town and foudn the soud we were looking for. We ended up finding a pair of SVS prime pinnalcle's second hand that were a little above the price range but we fiqure they will be with us for over many years so why not spend a little more. holy smokes these are pretty good. I'm no audiofile but they sounds awesome. With any speaker they will need to be positioned right for that heavy bass but overall great speaker so far. TFM-45 is just singing with them.

Damn it Mark! Those are the speakers that sent me down the NHT rabbit hole. When you auditioned those for me, I knew that I had to have them. Since that day, I've acquired two pairs of 2.5is, one pair of 2.5s, two pairs of 1.5s, an Ac1 and AC3 center channels and a pair of 2.9s. And I know of a pair of 3.3s near me for $1,200 that tempt me on a regular basis. I know that I don't need them, but they are such unicorns...OCCD combined with OCNHTD...

That's a very good price, and if you have the room for them..., but don't count on fooling the Mrs. :D
