One area I really focused on through the years was in recognizing truth and reality from things that are false, and not real. A couple quotes I shared with them recently follow. My kids are pretty damn worldly and wise. Intelligent too, as a result of taking parenting, and the gift of child rearing, adolescent stewardship and education seriously as my primary responsibility to those two that I brought into this world. 1 1

(likely mis-information- even before the internet age, imagine that) that women reached their sexual peak at 35, men at 18.... so... naturally, I had fantasies that Stevie would realize one day she needed to get with a poor college student like me. Never happened, lol I did meet her once- well, shook her hand anyway at one of her concerts. Alas, the handshake did not elicit any spark in her eyes.... And, my dream has so far been unrealized :). I regularly stop and ask myself, what effect does what anyone else does with their life have on me? Well, nothing..., teach your kids this too, it works, and they will grow up not to give a crap out what so many are hung up on and wasting their lives worrying about these days. Instead, they will put that time in on achieving things, serving others, and making a lasting impact on things that really matter. "Expect nothing and accept everything" ...the best way to avoid disappointment. I forget a lot but try hard to get back on that track. 2

By the time they got to Kindergarten, they knew who was responsible for their actions..., they never blamed anyone, ever. Never looked for a scapegoat for difficult situations they found themselves experiencing. They learned from it, and made better choices, and do so to this day. I'm not sure where the quote came from, but the philosophy is self evident. 2 1 1

For a number of years during and after college, I drove a stretch Lincoln. It was a small company but we landed the Alpine Valley account. This entailed picking up the performers at the private airfield next to Mitchell Field in Milwaukee and driving them to their performances. Stevie had always projected a mysterious way about herself. I can confirm that it wasn't an act. I was told to not initiate conversation with her by her body guard........ Her body guard sat with me in the front of the stretch. He was an unknown at the time. One of the most interesting rides I had been on. Not too long after this event he became very famous. In keeping with the spirit of this thread, the bouncer coined the phrase: I PITY THE FOOL 4 1

Ugh. 1
