I am a hobbyist in vintage audio gear.  I have been a fan of Carver since the first time I saw an ad for an M-400.  I was a teen during the horsepower wars, so a dollar a watt was pretty cool.

I have a few pieces of carver gear.  HR-772, HR752, TFM-15CB, one M-400, and one M-400a.  I spent 34 years fixing auto manufacturing equipment in the Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana before retiring in 2023.  Pretty much everything from soup to nuts in that time.  I currently have the M-400a in pieces on my workbench, so that is why I am here now.  It is a 15 dollar estate sale item, and it has issues.   The left channel board has two very burnt resistors.  It has been apart before.  It may have some newer caps, and the transistors were slathered with about a pound of compound.  I have only disassembled and cleaned so far. So, thanks for all the info in advance, and on with the fun!

Welcome @doug74x! Nice score on the M-400a. Pretty hard to go too far wrong for $15. If you haven't already found them, the owners & service manuals for most Carver gear are in the 'Manuals and Specsheets' link at the top of any page. There are also some good threads here on servicing the M400s that a search should connect you to.

Hello Doug and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us.

My first Carver piece was an M400t. I loved it so much that I bought another (and another, and another, and another, and another). :D

There are a few threads here about the M400 amps, and I hope you find what you need.

Welcome @doug74x, glad you found us.

I'm 4 hours northwest of you, (west suburbs of Chicago)..., we have some (inactive) members in Lafayette too, that come by from time to time.

Love hearing your list of gear, and stories..., you should soon be able to post pictures.  We love pictures.

If you are so inclined, we'd love a thread in Amp Repair on your project, if you want to start one.

Again, welcome!  Glad you are here.

Hey Doug,

Welcome to TCS.  My brother in law lives in The Villages and I live about 60 miles from him. Nice to see some Fl members!
