  2. I can see how Discogs would be a problem for serious collectors. I only use it just as a database for my collection and I have used it to buy records that I want from other users. So, it's okay for my use. It also gives me a rough estimate of the value of my collection...but, since I never really intend to sell, that's not all that big of deal for me (other than knowing what I paid for a record is in the ballpark of the market price). But, yeah, there are way too many versions of the same record/pressing.... nobody is cleaning that stuff up. I don't use the forums or get involved with debate over the records.... really didn't even know that was going on in the site, lol. But, knowing the audiophile world, I guess that's par for the course. Hard to find an audio forum where people are having 100% constructive, polite, conversations. That's one of the things I like about this site (though there have been some rough patches here, too).... most everyone gets along with each other and is very helpful on the Carversite.

  6. T-Square, Wings (album)
  7. I pop in from time to time but no longer have any Carver gear so don't have much to add. Still got those risers everywhere, though!
  8. @Half Life Thanks. And the answer is Yes! Forget about the grass too many CCR records to spin. I use to live on the other side of the James River for over a year, long ago, Langley. Spent many a weekend at Virginia Beach, Norfolk for a variety of reasons. These are the other units on the left side of the three bay.

  15. Being exposed to Carver gear counts in my eyes. All it takes is that first step. Could it be a nice Carver SD/A-390t 5‑Disc Carousel CD Player, or one of the many amps that Bob has designed. My first step was a TFM 35, and after that .... Dip your toe once and the rest will be history. Good luck on your restoration of the Amber, its kind of a cool looking piece of equipment.

  22. Many thanks guys....and Half Life hit the jackpot..the datasheet actually states it's a drop-in replacement for the 2SK146...with a better noise figure....the Amber may live again...!!...I was nearly giving up...actually started looking for a used QA403... I do need to come clean and admit I don't own any Carver gear...although have repaired some in my time. ...does that count...?
  23. @Kurt - Discogs is simply bloated. Kevin Lewandoski (who i used to work with at Intel) had a great idea, initially, but then he made the tool a 'once size fits all' tool. Can find a recording, ok, create the entry yourself - but DON'T insert Bonnie Rait under 'Folk' music! Don't create multiple releases because YOUR copy doesnt match that of another entry that utilizes THE EXACT SAME INFO other than the genre or order of performers. There is a lot of chaff that goes with discogs: Too many genres for one recording. Infighting among submitters/moderators with no guidance on how to avoid hiccups. Sellers who are shady, buyers who want the world for nothing (yes, I know, it is no different than eBay). All-in-all what started out as method to curate ones collection has become a black hole of useless information. Even the Forums have become polluted with politics, in-fighting, and other facets that you find on facebook. I keep discogs around for one reason: Insurance purposes. If something were to happen to my collection (fire, storm damage, burglary), then I have an idea as to replacement value. But I WILL NOT buy or sell from the site.
  24. I can't complain, Rick. Just getting older, not wiser!
