I suggest googling the best pairing between cartridge, table and arm. I like using different cartridges and see what i like best with different types of music. Like rolling tubes. I have a Lyra cartridge on a Linn LP12 table that I love for critical listening and a Denon 103 on a different Linn LP 12 that I prefer for rock and heavy bass tracks.

Loved it. I watched in 3 consecutive days and wish there was more. I have over 70 Beatles albums (mono, stereo, alternate, different pressings…) have loved the Beatles since I first saw them on Ed Sullivan.

I clean when I first buy an album and when I want to listen to it again and it has been over a year since the last cleaning. I use a carbon fiber in between cleanings and zero Stat if needed.
-
My process is an obsession. I can't help it or explain it. It takes much longer to clean, recondition my records than it does to play them. A bit over the top? Yes but I only do this process only once per year per album.
-
Yes I have played with the wood glue for the fun of it but my current method includes: 1. 5 minutes ultrasound on the kirmus 2. Brush clean with my own formula followed by 5 minute ultrasound 3. Repeat step 2 three times 4. Physical cleaning with microfiber 5. Rinse and vacuum with VPI vacuum 6. Carbon fiber brush 7. Milty zerostat gun 8. Placed in Mofi Master Sleeve 9. Write the date of cleaning on the sleeve 10. Repeat annually or as necessary

I purchased those exact speakers back in the late 70s or early 80s. Used them for loud rock music for hours on end.. I cant really comment about the audiophile nature of these because they were always pushed to the limit. Thry did come from a high end audiophile store and the salesman really pushed to sell them. Blew every driver in these multiple times with my m500 amp. Party on

I picked up a Kirmuss ultrasonic record cleaning/reconditioning machine a few months back. I have been using the VPI vacuum for years. The Kirmuss process is significantly better. I was shocked at how much crap was on my records. Some of the worst records I had were cleaned multiple time by the VPI machine. Results: Some records I don't hear any difference but at least half it makes a big difference and for some its profound. Very happy with this process. The process is a bit slow and has multiple steps but it's worth it. Plus for ultrasonic machines, its reasonably priced.

I would love an ultrasonic machine but I don't want to spend the money. I use the VPI HW 16.5 and it does a wonderful job. For those garage sale albums that it won't completely clean, I use wood glue. It does a deep cleaning and it's fun if you have the time. plus I love peeling off the dried glue. It's like peeling dead skin from a sun burn.

Quad ESL 57… Brooklyn, New York to Northern California
chiroacademy replied to wdc's topic in Loudspeakers
Very nice. One of the best speakers I've ever heard -
I'm a huge Beatles fan with 39 Beatles albums and another 21 solo artist Beatles albums and countless CDs. Lots of rare, different versions of the same albums, mono and stereo versions, UK releases and US releases had different covers and a few different songs... some of them have never been opened or played. Anyway you get the idea. I've wanted a Paul McCartney - "Paul is Live" vinyl but for some reason the damn thing is around $150 on eBay. I found one for $139 and bit the bullet. My first impression was wow this album is paper thin, what a waste of $. So I decided to give it a spin. Extraordinary sound, love the album (double vinyl). So much for the 180 gram audiophile sounding better because they are heavier.

How much better I don't know but the scarcity is what is driving the price up. I think collectors buy them and never play them. I have a few unplayed Beatles albums in my Beatles collection. I thought about buying the Sargent Peppers UHQR but it would be an investment.

Last one for the road: MFSL pressing

Back to Mono. I'm shocked at the quality of these old records. Absolute mint, not a scuff, scratch or finger print. I can't believe I took care of these albums so well.

Another 50 year old mint vinyl this one in stereo

Meet the Beatles in Mono, mint 1964 deep groove vinyl

"I'm in no way willing to spend $168 for Aja when my original pressing sounds better (to me) than the CD. " True, for clarification the Aja pressing I bought was not new. It was a 1977 pressing ABC label that was hand pick from numerous 1977 pressings for its amazing detail and sound. Not all pressings from the same run sound the same. The other Aja album is a 1980 pressing with a MCA label. I have only bought a handful of these Better Record albums because of the price. Poeple will pay more for a MoFi pressing because of the better quality. I will be happy to pay more for an album if I know it's going to sound significantly better. We spend a a lot of cash for equipment to get a better sound why not spend a little more to get a better source.

Clean New Records Before Playing-- Any truth in this?
chiroacademy replied to Ar9Jim's topic in Vinyl
There is magic in the grooves. -
Here are some pics of the turntable wall shelves I picked up on ebay. I think I paid $175 each. They do a great job, highly recommended. Solid, well made, filled with sand and easy to install. You have to buy a shelf. I picked up a 3/4" acrylic shelf off ebay and had them cut it to size. Perfect

Clean New Records Before Playing-- Any truth in this?
chiroacademy replied to Ar9Jim's topic in Vinyl
Yes I always clean my new records. I've seen fingerprints, smudges, static can be bad so a wet cleaning eliminates the pops and cracks or use a zerostat gun, as you know static attracts a lot of dirt and dust, leftover residue from the factory. Keep your stylus clean. There are many reason why to clean new vinyl especially if you are doing critical listening. BTW most new albums are highly charged with static using a zerostat gun does a great job. -
Good pressings make all the difference. I just purchased another pressing of Steely Dan Aja for $178 from Better Records. Better-records.com They focus on finding the absolute best sounding vinyl on the planet. I try to get a copy of all my favorites from them because the sound is significantly better. Very pricey but worth it. Pressings are so different from one to another. The temperature at which each was pressed, the engineer, the time of day, the beginning or end of a run, the press machine, was it remastered, did the boost the high end (common for Japanese pressings)... I have two first pressings of Kansas Point of no Return that sound completely different. I have three pressings of Srt. Peppers the 2014 parlaphone mono is by far the best pressing. Quality Record Pressings is another great source. Their Pressings are outstanding. If you read about how they do their pressings, you will want nothing but their pressings. Cat Steven's Tea for the Tillerman is outstanding. If you want to amaze with your Amazings, use good pressings.

I would recommend a turntable wall stand. Check with the manufacturer but it isolates the turntable from the floor. If you happen to get resonance in the arm there are few things you do to stop it. Let me know. There are some wall shelves that someone makes and sells on eBay. They are a Rega style shelf filled with sand. I add an acrylic shelf with great results. I will post pics tomorrow
