  1. Maybe physically larger, higher wattage resistors would help spread out the heat load as well.
  2. It somewhat depends on the sound level you hope to achieve. An increase of 3 db requires a doubling of power, so it can add up fast. I have a buddy who clips his Bryston 14B-SST into a set of Vandersteen 2Ce's on an alarmingly regular frequency. WAY too loud for me, but not apparently for him. One issue with speakers that run down to that 2-4 Ohm load is going to be supplying enough current at raised volumes. Finding an amp that will handle the load might be a more important task than looking at raw power numbers. Uncontrolled (hard) clipping kills speakers, not high power amps - unless you are pushing them beyond their maximum SPL output limits. Whatever you use - it'll need to be a biggun'
  3. When I was young and "Chuck E's In Love" was a pop hit - I hated it. Funny what time teaches you.
  4. Those CV's have a sensitivity of ~95 db/W. If you chose to replace the woofers the replacements will need to have similar sensitivity or the speakers will sound quite tinny.
  5. I had one of those - until my Koala ate it....
  6. dcl made me do it.
  7. 'cause it's been months since I did it last!
  8. Let's check the facts here. One of two speakers blows a fuse. Amp is fine, not going into protection or emitting magic smoke. Seems like a speaker related issue to me. But I've been wrong before a time or six hundred.
  9. I thought he was blowing a speaker fuse not taxing the amp....
  10. Take a look at where the enameled wires cross over each other or over bare wires. Is there a spot where 2 might touch & short with vibration?
  11. There were many versions of X-overs for the Silvers. Mine are different again, but much closer to PMAT's. What does the label on the back of the Speaker say? If it;s even still there . . . . should be down low by the binding posts.
  12. There are 15 copies listed at Discogs.
  13. "Boards of Canada" are Scottish - - Gooooo figure!
  14. See, we don't just enable OCCD 'round these here parts!
