  1. You can't get better product support than this. Just an observation and comment. I have worked in manufacturing for over 30 yrs. The last 20 or so in the aircraft industry, working w/n a quality standard known as AS9100. We are audited regularly on processes as well as paperwork. Its from this perspective that I make this comment. Toymaker and his support team came up with an idea for a product, came up with a concept, researched the components, made the design, did the manufacturing engineering work (how do we make it), made prototypes, developed a crossover, and put this product into production. All with orders coming in and a Carverfest deadline only months away! I sure wouldn't sweat a couple holes off location! It happens every day. A part moved in the fixture or drill tip walked, whatever. The point is, all the things that you had to get right, to pull this off in this time frame. Very impressive to say the least James. You must have put other parts of your life on hold to make this happen. Thanks to the others in your family behind the scenes that may have helped out or were patient while you were making this happen. Not to mention dealing with vendors and subcontractors that are somewhat out of your control! Great work!
  2. I feel the same seduction 4krow. I remember when CDs came out. The lack of clicks and pops along with the dynamic range made vinyl seem obsolete. Looking back, the best turntable system I have ever heard was not good by the standards we talk about here on CS. I don't miss the clicks and pops but the fact that vinyl still exist makes me curious about how a good turntable would sound with the Carver system vs CD. With so many vinyl fans here, there must be something I missed with the low quality equipment I had as a kid. Tempted to try it again.
  3. Welcome Bert. Enjoy.
  4. Its great listening to the high end recordings listed here in this post. The quality brings out the best in a system and is impressive for sure. The only down side is that about 1/2 of my music collection sounds poor by comparison. Its easy to get spoiled with the good stuff and the average, common recordings sound flat and not so good. Guess thats a good problem.
  5. In the early-mid 1980s I ran 2 M400As into 4 ohm AR9 speakers. I ran them every way possible. Bridged mono, biamped with and without an active (electronic) crossover and stereo. We were young at the time and used to throw big parties. The M400s were the star of the show! We would turn it up till the headroom was exhausted, then turn it down just a little bit and run them for several hours that way with a fan helping to keep them cool. Once in a while the protection circuits would step in and make us turn it down a bit. My memories of the M400s are all good. Great sounding workhorses with protection that will save them from the owner pushing them to their limits on a regular basis. I still smile thinking about those days and the M400s made many fond memories.. Enjoy.
  6. For digital recordings I have also enjoyed the DMP label as talked about in earlier post. Along with Flim & the BB's two more great ones are Thom Rotella Band and Chuck Loeb. The Chuck Loeb disc "Mediterranean" is excellent. These "Bands recorded live to two track digital" not only have the super wide dynamic range but also without overdubs the imaging and soundstage is very impressive. I find that these recordings bring out the best of Sonic Holography and seem like a perfect match in some way. Lots of great music on this label. Great for demo..

Thank you. I didn't know myself. Cancer is some scary stuff. Other than a few scars, it looks like I will be around to enjoy the music for a while. It was an eye opener for sure, but I learned from it and hope to be a better person because of it. Sure appreciate friends and family more than ever. Taking life a day at a time and not stressing so much. Some good came from it for sure. Good to see the same great people here. Please keep our friend Kevin in your thoughts and prayers. It sounds like he's having a tough time right now and he's the kind of guy who will help anyone he can..Get well soon Kevin!

Hi Guys, I'm back in the USA and the packaging vendor still keeps putting me off a week at a time. I used this vendor in the past with good results but this time they seem to be having business issues internally. We have many vendors for packaging in my area and I will get the samples back and go to another vendor. They were a good vendor in the past so I tried to be patient but it appears its time to move on to the next source. Sorry for the long delay as I hoped to have this done before going on vacation last month.
  9. Welcome. Very nice work. Your skills are excellent.
  10. Kevin, Is the "power steering" type supply unique to M 1.5s ? It differs from the M1.0, M400, M500 types ? I totally agree that the power would be crazy into the CVs, but how many of us wouldn't do it anyway?? I mean the amps just sitting there begging to be played with...Carefully...Don't destroy your speakers, or your hearing for that matter..
  11. You could look at the back of your amps for the mono wiring instructions..You could use one amp for each channel that way..Be careful of the volume control because the power will be huge..Your speakers appear to be rated at a 4 ohm load..Some amps will not like a 4 ohm load bridged mono but some are fine..The mono instructions will normally say something like "8 ohms minimum for mono operation" or something to that effect if its an issue..Even at low volume more power sounds better imho...It would be interesting to hear your observations..I have found over time that Kevin's recommendations are normally spot on, as he has listened to just about everything and is able to put his observations into words quite well..The C4000 is a great preamp..I also have a C1 with the BillD mods that you will likely read about..The C1 with BillD mods is my favorite, but the C4000 with all the goodies like Sonic Hologram, Digital time lens, Auto correlate is a great preamp in my opinion..Its labeled for CD and has a push button for gain adjustment which is also nice..You landed a great deal..Enjoy..
  12. Good point..There was a guy here thats wife was suffering from increased sensitivity to these radiations..The cell phone standard based on heating of the skull and tissue seems crazy but true..Seems as if it doesn't start to heat up your head (beyond the standard) then its safe right..Only like 50 years ago you could watch above ground nuke test near Vegas..It was also safe right..They probably thought if you were far enough away, that the radiation didn't warm up your body it must be safe. It may have been their highly respected, highly educated, indisputable scientific fact of the day..May sound crazy but someday we might be sleeping in a faraday cage just to give our bodies a temporary break from the exposer..You don't have to think back very far and you can come up with a long list of things that were once considered safe that are now considered dangerous..This will likely be another one of those examples over time..The cell phone standard for heating of the head/skull makes as much sense as above ground nuke testing..If it doesn't start to cook you it must be safe..
  13. Nice. I like the wider stance that the outrigger provides. What size thread is the spike? Reason I ask is because there's a chance I may have some acorn nuts around the shop. If I do, and you want them , I would drop them in the mail.
  14. Nice work. When you first post the pics of the Thiel speakers they looked rough and looked like a lot of work. They look great now. Impressive work for sure..Thanks for sharing.
  15. "Honey I'm home". I know its not a contest but, you won PMAT.
  16. Same concept Perry, except 2 shelves,1 slab on the floor and 1 slab above I think. Your room is really sweet and I find it inspiring. Your attention to detail is impressive. You can obviously relate to how well treating the area between the speakers brings the sound stage to life and have avoided the temptation to add reflective items between the speakers that blur the image. I used the absorption method instead of diffusion for the added bass trap effect I needed as well..Beautiful work Perry. Is that a flat screen TV above the diffusion panel ? Thanks for sharing.
  17. Recently I moved my (2) M1.0s to a location between my speakers. My speakers each have dual side firing woofers but since amps are commonly located inside speakers, I really have no concern about the location. I left the CD player and C1 near my chair and ran some long (4 meter) RCA cables I found at a box store for $50 each. The cables were made for car audio made by Kicker. My first thoughts were that If the shielding is good enough for car audio it should be fine for home. I was wrong and the long RCAs picked up considerable hum. I moved the C1 and CD player to within reach of the Bluejeans cables (1 meter long) and the hum was gone. I like the amps between the speakers because I can see the power meters without turning my head to look at them. I would rather the C1 and CD player not be so close to the woofer line of fire. I don't have a TV or anything between the speaker except for a 4 x 6 foot absorber panel with 9 inches of sound absorbing rock wool inside. I don't want to put a standard style tall rack in the middle and add early reflections back in. I'm thinking of a rack 2 components in width that will remain short being only about 1 foot tall. After coming up with a concept I can have my CAD designer make a set of prints and a 3d model. I'm thinking of a modular design that will basically slip together at the intended location due to weight making it difficult to move while assembled. We have many granite shops in town using water jets to fab granite countertops. Once I have the design the parts should be easy to come by. I think quartz may be a poor choice but I think granite would be ok. Any input from you guys as to why this is a good idea or not a good idea is appreciated. Any good ideas can be added to the design and I will make prints available to everyone who wants them so your local granite shop can reproduce it for you. Thanks for any input you have. Your thoughts ?
  18. I remember when these Polk speakers were new and remember how similar the principal of operation sounded to Carvers SH generator.I only heard these speakers one time and it was without SH.I have always wondered how the 2 technologies compare in a real word setting. What happens when the 2 are used in combination? Is the cross talk cancellation on the Polks able to be turned off or is it on full time?I enjoy SH and have been curious about the polk method and if it works as well.
  19. I had read many years ago about the SDA SRS polks with the crosstalk canceling technology. It sounded similar to the principal of Sonic Holography. What is the effect when using these speakers in combination with SH.Always wondered about that.
  20. Its a very personal choice that you ultimately come to your own conclusion about. The truth is that we are not all hearing the same thing. You will get many different responses about brands of speakers and the people will be very passionate and sure that their suggestion is best. Its similar to asking whats your favorite color. If you like bass and you are planning on 1 pair of full range speakers then look at the many suggestions you will be given and take the time to listen to as many as you can.Read reviews of them and look at measured performance. If your not planning on using a sub woofer than look for speakers that will go close to 20 hz with minimal roll off in response. There are many with great bass response. One of my favorites is the Acoustic Research AR9.You will get many recommendations and they are all correct to the person making them. When you hear the ones that change your pulse and give kind of a startled response in your breathing pattern, when you feel an emotion----Buy those!Thats the one for you and no one else knows which one it may be or what brand or model.
  21. Kevin (kve777)showed me a video of a guy rebuilding these.I think he is working on an Infinity project and may have some good info..Of course Gene C knows his Infinity stuff and is likely to have the info. you need as you already know.Sorry about the damage.
  22. Thats a good plan IMHO.That way you can start off fresh and avoid the chasing issues between components.Good way to avoid frustration. You got a great deal and the service work is money well spent.
  23. Welcome MCP, Your story fits right in around here. You have found"the place to be".I hope you enjoy the vast knowledge and great people you will find here.
  24. Measured performance and reviews are a good place to start but in the end its a very individual personal choice.A great speaker for me may only be good for someone else.Listen to as many as you can. When you find a great one you will know it without a doubt! There are tons of speakers that are really really good, but great is an individual thing in the ear of the beholder. When you think its great its GREAT.
  25. When making your decision I would include the cost of recapping the original crossovers into the individual driver route vs the kit.I recently had a old cap issue in a pair of vintage speakers and if you go vintage crossover route the peace of mind of recapping would be important and likely a necessary expense to consider vs the kit.
