  1. I can't listen to Aqualung without thinking of the cast party for our production of Dracula (that's me with snot running down my nose....) This one brings back memories of the summer of my senior year (high school). My brothers and I spent most of it sitting in a friend's garage, drinking his dad's beer and listening to tunes.
  2. To upload a file from your HD see Drag files here to attach, or choose files... at the bottom of the post a reply window (each member has 50 MB of personal storage). Or you can paste in a link to any public photo (right click and select Copy image address from the context menu, CTRL+P to paste) and it should display automatically.
  3. Howdy@Wjlawand welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board. If you are referring to the output relay fellow site member and ebay seller@Circuits & Conceptssells replacements. If you purchase one tell him you are a member. better than stock ==> https://www.ebay.com/itm/Output-Relays-to-repair-CARVER-MXR-130-150-900-2000-THE-RECEIVER-FBR621D024/221121502953 upgrade with gold contacts ==> https://www.ebay.com/itm/Audiophile-Grade-Gold-Contact-Output-Relays-to-repair-CARVER-MXR-130-150-FBR621D/221349506894
  4. Photos (and much more) will be an option once we move to the new software's database function. Meanwhile you can always Google the make and model number.
  5. Howdy Bill and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board. Thanks for the intro. The TFM-25 is a pretty standard design so any qualified service tech should be able to handle it. The M-400 "cube" contains circuits that are unique to Carver so I wouldn't trust it to anyone who isn't very familiar with it. Most of us opt to replace the stock incandescent bulbs with long-lasting LEDs. When you find a tech ask him about lighting options.
  6. I was hoping you would provide some details but I guess you really are shy. Enjoy your stay!
  7. Howdy Jade and welcome to the forum. Please tell us about yourself and your reason for joining us.
  8. Howdy Greg and welcome to the forum. Great to have you on board. Nice assortment of gear you have there. You probably won't notice a difference with either amp driving an easy load like your KEF 30's, but be aware that the M-500t isn't happy driving 4 ohm loads while the M-4.0t and it's twins (TFM-4.0/42/45) take them in stride.
  9. From the listing you linked to: plays MP3, M4A, FLAC, and WAV files; sampling rates up to 24-bit/192kHz
  10. The price of digital storage keeps dropping. I paid about $120 for a 1TB GoFlex USB HD in 2010, roughly the same price of the 4TB WD Elements drives I bought in 2014 and 2015. A few months ago I picked up two 8TB MyBook drives for less than $160 each. FYI: A 4TB solid state drive (SSD) will still set you back $1,000, but the smaller units have become very affordable. Zack paid about $80 for the 512MB unit he installed in my PC over Christmas break, and it made a huge difference in speed vs the original disc-type hard drive.
  11. Thanks Geoff, but they don't have to be pics of Carver gear, or your current system. If it's audio-related, and you owned, borrowed, or stole it at some time, feel free to post away. ?
  12. Howdy Geoff and welcome to the forum. Thanks for introducing yourself. Please tell us more about yourself, your taste in music, non-audio hobbies, etc. When you get around to posting system pics, please start a thread in Member Systems. Good luck with your amp projects!
  13. Cool! Prog rock has been a staple on my play list since the mid/late 60's thanks to a friend's older brother who liked Amon Duul, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues and King Crimson.
  14. That reminds me of some of the community theater shows I've worked on...
  15. Maybe I'm just jealous, but I know I enjoy listening to music more, and have more time to do so, now that I've left the pursuit of audio perfection behind. YMMV
  16. Howdy Brian and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the intro. I had a similiar "come to Carver" moment, as did many of your fellow CarverSite members. It's good to have a common thread... Don't worry about not having the shiniest, newest, highest fidelity kit. It's all OK as long as you are enjoying the music! Hope you stick around, and please post some photos of your system (in the Member's Systems forum) so we don't have to beg you.
  17. Nothing personal Ray, but when your entire post is a laundry list of oddly named gear that most of us can't afford, I have to wonder about your priorities.
  18. FYI: hy·brid ˈhīˌbrid/ noun 1. BIOLOGY the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties, such as a mule (a hybrid of a donkey and a horse). "a hybrid of wheat and rye" synonyms: cross, cross-breed, mixed breed, half-breed, half-blood; More 2. a thing made by combining two different elements; a mixture. "the final text is a hybrid of the stage play and the film" adjective 1. of mixed character; composed of mixed parts. "Mexico's hybrid postconquest culture"
  19. From Wikipedia: SACD is a disc of identical physical dimensions as a standard compact disc; the density of the disc is the same as a DVD. There are three types of disc:[17] Hybrid: Hybrid SACDs are encoded with a 4.7 GB DSD layer (also known as the HD layer), as well as a PCM (Red Book) audio layer readable by most conventional Compact Disc players.[18] Single-layer: A DVD-5 encoded with one 4.7 GB DSD layer. Dual-layer: A DVD-9 encoded with two DSD layers, totaling 8.5 GB, and no PCM layer. Dual-layer SACDs can store nearly twice as much data as a single-layer SACD. Unlike hybrid discs, both single- and dual-layer SACD's are incompatible with conventional CD players and cannot be played on them. A stereo SACD recording has an uncompressed rate of 5.6 Mbit/s, four times the rate for Red Book CD stereo audio.[17] Other technical parameters are as follows: CD layer (optional) SACD layer Disc capacity 700 MB[19] 4.7 GB[17] Audio encoding 16 bit PCM 1 bit DSD Sampling frequency 44.1 kHz 2.8224 MHz Audio channels 2 (Stereo) up to 6 (Discrete surround) Playback time if stereo 80 minutes[20] 110 minutes[17]
  20. You didn't say so Steve, but I assume you no longer have the original CD's, otherwise you could just re-rip them. I rarely buy a CD or LP unless I like all the tracks, so it would seem wrong if I skipped a song or played them out of order.
  21. The bulk of my CD's are in my basement mancave along with several hundred of my favorite LPs and tapes. I can't back up far enough for a true panoramic view but this should give you a feel for it. Most of the rest of my LP's are in a storage closet around the corner with more cassette tapes, some 45's and 78's, and several hundred RTR's in another closet.
  22. I got into this hobby almost 60 years ago because I love music. At some point I lost my way and it became more about the equipment and chasing the "ultimate quality" ghost. Now that I'm retired and living on a fixed income I'm back to simply enjoying the music. I listen to mainly CD's but when I get a hankering for a particular song/album/artist I have no problem digging out an LP, 45 or a cassette tape. I have way too much physical media to think about converting it to digital. (I stopped counting when Zack was born in 1995, but my guess is I have close to 20,000 unique album length titles on various media.) I do rip and share files with a few members but I always burn mine to CD for playing. Yes, I am a dinosaur.....
  23. Congrats on the new toys and thanks for the interesting story Eric. I'd say you're not halfbaked at all but full ADHD.
  24. It probably belongs in the "over-priced deals" thread...
