There's hope!...my 50th birthday is in one week. Hinted to the wife--although she just laughed & shrugged it off. But what a memorable gift that would be! Hey I can dream.

Excellent choices Steve! You will never regret buying quality. Enjoy the music my friend!

Thx for sharing DanoW. Love the sound of a steel guitar too. Great combo in that tribute.

"Should I buy the 180 gram weight version or the colored vinyl version? I was thinking the colored vinyl version might be closer to the original and it looks cool as well." The numbered colored blue vinyl is 180 gram as well. Sounds fantastic.

Perry, A. big THANK YOU for your search my friend! Means a lot. The quest continues ;-))

We only desire a small (roughly 50) but high quality vinyl collection as we do enjoy the experience. This little stand was perfect for our needs. Could even be made for a fraction of the cost. I'll see if I can post a pic from phone . https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51pvhybTrpL.jpg

If you lived in America, I would consider buying it from ya Leonardo...Italy is a long way to ship. 10 Euros....nice investment my friend!

The second pic in your post is the gatefold option. I personally prefer the original artwork myself. In fact, the end of the following post (link below) shows the numbered blue vinyl remastered version which I gave to my son for his birthday this month. It sounds very good: http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=29954&p=3

I have not personally heard the DOGG audio white van speakers. I do know to stay away from them though based on history and net reports: http://m.ripoffreport.com/reports/dogg-digital-audio/nationwide/dogg-digital-audio-rip-off-i-paid-him-later-found-that-the-speakers-sound-like-junk-and-48795 And a post from AK: "I know this thread is pretty old, but I just thought this was funny... A friend of mine recently gave me a pair of DOGG "Digital Audio 2002" tower speakers model SL-1100. The second-highest of the mid-ranges was badly damaged, so I thought I would move the bottom one up and plug its port. I first removed the speaker terminal to check for a crossover. The other pair of WV speakers I have, a pair of "Linear Phase" "Studio Monitors", don't even have a crossover. These have a very small crude crossover attached to the speaker terminal. Then I removed the damaged driver and it seemed pretty normal, boasting its "high performance" on the back of the magnet structure. Now on to the bottom driver. HA! No magnet! And none on the "driver" above it either. Absolutely ridiculous. I have not even tried to play them yet, and I'm not sure I will after that." Of course if it's free & pulled out of the trash--and you feel like experimenting --go for it! On the other hand--when you mention ribbon tweeters, --especially AL's--now you're a man after my own heart Walter. -
Mod's may want to start a new thread with the above.

Man, I love the sound of my Amused to Death SACD, chiro. I don't have the LP but the fact that it is recorded in Q sound by the engineers makes it very "spatial". I'm sure the LP has the same effect (although I believe SH should be off when playing it). One of the best sounding pressings I own that goes head to head with just about any format is Fleetwood Mac's 45 rpm 180g Rumours album. Jaw dropping sound. One of the worst MOFI recordings I own.... Tigerlily by Natalie Merchant. Such a shame as it is one of my most played. (Btw, I have not listened to the 45rpm MOFI version which may be an improvement)

"That's just stupid pricing. Sure, it's a great album, but it's not worth $200 much less $400+." IKR! "the remastered heavy version of Pink Floyd DSOM is a total waste." IMHO, so much depends on the source material and the engineer's knowledge & involvement during the recording. In my DSOTM comparison testing, I found Parson's 2003 30th anniversary pressing edging out over my original 1973 (EX cond.) pressing. It consistently receives high marks. The original press did beat out the 2013 40th anniversary "digital" pressing. YMMV of course. This SuperVinyl pressing of Dido's album is supposedly quite good. Not sure it's $200-650 good though.

That's a very cool journey Stan. Thanks for sharing that--all the way from St. Petersburg Russia no less! You will be right at home here with your knowledge & skills. Amazing tech's on this site with a passion for fine audio. I'm curious. You mentioned: "I smuggled individual pieces of test gear in my suitcases on every return visit over my first 6 years here I ended up with a pretty competent lab." ..does that mean Russia would not allow these pieces into the country? Hope you stay awhile - and welcome aboard!

I noticed a substantial price increase in the vinyl version of this album by Dido--"Life for Rent". I stream & play the CD versions quite a bit as it is one of my fav's. I'm curious if anyone here owns the 200 gram audiophile version? It is a rarity which has sold for $200 recently. I'm now seeing this piece of plastic listing for $400-$550!
