Aint that the truth, Rod. ...and the recognition is appreciated, Greg. Thanks my friends...it is a privilege to be among the audio greats here at CS.
-
Our family will highly encourage anyone here who enjoys the band, 'Boston' to pick up the 40th anniversary edition vinyl LP of their originally titled album of the same name. The mastering is incredible. IMHO, very few of the discs we own (mostly NM to M+) match SACD quality with the exception of this one and the 45 RPM version of 'Fleetwood Mac', "Rumours" LP. The vinyl sound from these is truly jaw dropping. If you pick it up, you will NOT be disappointed. (plus, it is a cool picture disc to boot)

Hey CSite, Today (February 9th, 2017) is the one year anniversary of when I joined the CarverSite family. In fact, I resurrected my very first post from one year ago today. After much knowledge and wisdom gained, I want to thank all of you for your efforts in furthering this site's fan base as well as sharing your experiences--both audio & other topics. Truly a unique audio family here. A special thanks to Rod (Doh-R) who kick started my vinyl collection with the gifting of some of his discs to me when we purchased our first turntable after joining: A special thanks to 4krow who did my first CSite mod -- a hot rodded C9: A special thanks to Loner_t who encouraged me to purchase a turntable after this original post (which led to Rod's vinyl gift). ...and of course to so many other's here (too many to name) for their countless advice on acquisition's, mod's, upgrades, etc.... Below is a year ago (February 9, 2016) pic....: ...and then a February 9, 2017 pic: (OCCD runs rampant!) Looking forward to what Hashy and his team are going to roll out shortly with the new site while paying homage to the folks who have blazed the way with this site's original roll-out many years ago on December 20, 2008. As always, enjoy the music powerfully, accurately, and effortlessly...on Carver equipment of course!!

Me too...Chops and abynormal. ...still remember being 13 years old standing outside at a swim meet near kids who were older than I. Suddenly I heard helicopters and British accents screaming at kids....then a launch into P.F.'s 'The Wall' on a Sony boom box near me. Gave me goosebumps. I've been hooked up to the fine audio i.v. ever since.

Listened to all the songs listed. Very difficult to choose. Fantastic entries. What stood out to me for the only reference disc I own (2014 w/thanks to BarryG for the copy) the first time I played it on our system was the uniqueness, sometimes familiar, and breadth of songs which allowed me to both enjoy my system and at the same time get the "jaw dropping" factor when playing for others. I was also proud to play it on a dealer's $300,000 system w/ the variety and quality of the audio. Many songs on this list qualify for the above but I was able to narrow it down to 5 which (IMHO) easily stood out for a 2017 reference disc based upon the comments above. # 6 "Fearless" by Pink Floyd on 'Meddle' # 14 "Man in the Long Black Coat" by Bob Dylan on 'Oh Mercy' Man in the Long Black Coat # 23 "The Pepperland Suite" by George Martin on 'In My Life' # 29 "Until I'm Dead & Cold" by BB King on 'Indianola Mississippi Seeds' and finally #33 "You Want it Darker" by Leonard Cohen on 'You want it Darker' Runner's up if there is room 17, 30, 28, 25, 7, 9, 13, 15, 24, 8, 10 in order of preference for the reference

aslan7 replied to BrianD's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Hey Brian. You've got some Carver history under your belt my friend! So glad you found us. There are some amazing folks on this site and with your talents and background, you'll fit right in. We love ALL audio equipment here so please post pics. Just click on the "insert image" icon at the top right of the tool bar after you hit "post reply" from your computer. Then hit "upload" find the pic on your machine...click open...wait about 6-7 seconds and then hit the "insert" button. Of course we have a special fondness for anything the BobFather had a hand in so those pics have a special place in our heart. Welcome aboard the Carver Express. Hope you stay awhile! -
Btw, Dingman, Fluidcool is also an audiophile luvin', beer drinkin', Carver luver located close to Des Moines.
-
What a great audio journey story, Dingman! Thank you for sharing. And Marantz!!....you are also a man after my own heart. I love the Marantz "velvet sound". It is at the heart of my system processing. Folks hop on and off the train here at the CarverSite all the time. Feel free to stay awhile or take a brief hiatus. Your talents and gifts will fit in well. And, we value your audiophile wisdom as I'm sure you will ours. I will warn you though, OCCD runs rampant with our group. Again, we love ALL things audio (and video) here --with a passion for Carver related creations of course. Our love of music pushes us to reproduce it accurately... powerfully... and effortlessly while enjoying fellowship with each other and learning along the way. Welcome aboard the Carver train my friend. Enjoy the Ride..... & the Music!
-
Dang Kevin. That was fast!
-
Very sexy internals, UM!
-
Very cool! You both are kindred spirits Chops. Send him our link. I think he would appreciate this site's fellowship, unique character, and passion for reproducing music accurately, powerfully, and effortlessly. Great pics.
-
Where is your brother now, Chops? Once a carver addict, always a carver addict. ;-)) His passion would ALSO be much appreciated here.
-
"My "go to" album? Do you really need to ask? LOL " I figured it was the one on display:-))
-
Gorgeous Chops! Beautiful speakers Beautiful TX-11 Beautiful Oppo blu ray Beautiful turntable Beautiful cabling Beautiful C-9 (looks brand new!) Beautiful bass guitar Beautiful everything ...etc. etc. How do you like those cork pads under your TT? Looks like you got some serious vibration isolation going on under that beauty. You have a favorite "go to" album in that vinyl display which you like to play?
-
That's a fantastic story Chops. Got my music adrenaline flowing! Welcome to the CarverSite my audiophile friend. Your love of Carver shows--and that's some very cool equipment your bro had. Maybe he wants to hop aboard the carver train too? If you would privilege us with some pics, we would be most appreciative. So glad you found us! Your OCCD journey is just beginning!

It may have been used before but the sonic holography effect and the guitar riff from "The Ballad of Bill Hubbard" by Roger Waters on the 'Amused to Death' album is spectacular. It is one of the songs I use to test my ribbons for buzz and I was led to it by several members on this site (UM, PMAT, etc.). The dog barks can be heard coming from behind you with SH! (along with the cougar growl) Just a consideration.

New guy just saying hello :-)
aslan7 replied to Carsten's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Hey Carsten, soooo glad you found us (from Denmark no less!)...and a warm welcome to the CarverSite. You have stumbled upon an amazing site as well as one of the best speakers ever produced, and with a little knowledge from the folks here, you will be able to enjoy them to their fullest. I too own a pair of AL's (silver model) and that was the foundation with which I built my system around. They have been singin' sweetly since 1990. I did have a ribbon begin to buzz but we have a member here (SEA) who can help with that. ( AL ribbon repair ) Thank you for posting a pic so fast too! I look at that picture like an artist looks at a blank canvas. You have so many options to begin building a system around those fantastic works of art. You are very fortunate. What horsepower will you be using and have you discovered sonic holography? Btw, we love ALL things audio (& vid) here with a passion of course for Carver related. Ask away-- and again, welcome aboard the carver express! -
You've got the posting replies thing down Steve! Easy as pie.
-
Sounds like you've got quite a system going, Steve! ...and even if you just post a pic of one little piece of equipment, (Carver or not) it makes our day. Those Triton 1's are beautiful pieces out of Stevenson, MD. I too started my Carver journey with a pair of AL Silver's in 1990 purchased new with college money I did not have. Great to have another Silver owner here- and it sounds like you too have the OCCD bug . Like Loner_t referenced, whether it's a mighty multi hundred/thousand/million dollar system, or a small speaker-amp combo out of a white van, what we really enjoy is your audio journey story; broadening our knowledge; bringing Carver pieces back to life; fellowship with each other; and perfecting our craft-- all in the name of enjoying the music powerfully, accurately, and effortlessly.
-
Well welcome to the CarverSite, Steve! Great to have your talent, gifts, and knowledge on board the Carver express. ...and by the way, you have been a member longer than I have as my 1 year anniversary is next month. You are right as rain in saying this site is special. Amazing knowledge and technical advice here. Ask away. ALL things audio (&video) are appreciated as well-- even if we do have a passion for Carver gear. And if you are able, please post any pics by opening a thread on your computer and selecting the "insert image" icon on the top right of the tool bar. Then select "upload", find pic on your computer, select it, wait about 5-6 seconds, then hit "insert". We LUV pics! How did you happen to get started in Carver gear? WELCOME ABOARD MY FRIEND and ENJOY THE MUSIC!
-
Always loved this one (with a great message too):

Hey welcome to the CarverSite nwinjim! Great to have you on board. Would love to hear more about your audio journey. We love all things audio (& video) here. Post pics if you can. ...and please stay awhile. Btw, hopefully a can of deoxit will fix your noisy C-1 volume knob. Thank you again for posting!

'Man in the Long Black Coat', by Bob Dylan on "Oh Mercy" Crickets, Harmonica & Dylan's voice have a haunting sound that envelops you--a Sonic side request.
-
Not sure if it has been used yet, but this selection by Bob Dylan -- "Man in the Long Black Coat" is very similar to the amazing effects of the first song on the 2014 disc-- Chris Rea's "The Road to Hell". I would highly recommend it: Speaking of the 2014 disc, I got to play it on Butch's $300,000 mac system Friday. Audio perfection.

Very cool set up HT. Thank you for the pic and documenting your cleaning process! I use a similar cleaning process with old and new vinyl. However, I do prefer a pressure spraying type set up such as the gem dandy to clean those grooves. It's simple and effective. You could even make your own. Here's the one I use: http://www.hifigem.com/hydraulic-lp-cleaning-apparatusMKII.html
