Hello all,  I've been a collector of vintage audio for about 8 years now.
Mostly Sansui and Marantz recievers.  Lately I've been picking up separates
and came across my 1st Carver amp, the M500T.  I like the fact that it puts
out lots of power, cool meters and very portable. Just ordered parts for the MKII mod and looks like I've ordered 2 different sets of Diodes for D401 thru D404. http://preview.tinyurl.com/zxmtjud and
Rectron and Vishay.  Looks like specs are similar but can someone suggest
which brand would work the best.  Thanks Ken

Howdy Ken and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board. Hope you stick around so we can get to know you.

Congrats on picking up an M-500t. It was my 1st Carver amp and still my favorite. (I love the look and the sweet sound.)
I run four M-500(t)s in my main system (all restored) including a non-t bought new in 1982, 2 M-500t's, and an MKII.
(My 2.2 system is horizontally tri-amped with the M-500 driving the tweets, the MKII on the mids, and the "t"s on the subs.)

Most of our service techs work regular jobs so give them a few hours to get back to you on your diode question.
(I'm pretty sure either set will work but I can't address the issue of whether one set will perform better than the other.)

Wow, that's quite a rack you have there.  I'll be using the amp with a pair
of CV DX9's in my apartment.  Going to put a sign on my door "If it's to loud
you're to old"

Thanks for the welcome and replies.  I've only had this up a little past 1DB
on the meters with my CV's.  Can't imagine 2 or 4 of these in a system!
I'll be using the amp with the DX9's at a party a friend of mine hosts every
year in the SW Chicago area this July 23rd.  Anyone local that would like to
attend pm me.  It runs noon to midnight.  Long day.  It's going to be one hot amp!

I've used Vishay in other amps with good results...

Hey Ken,

You're a man after my own heart with a Marantz receiver.  Love the music sound from them.  Of course Carver & Carver related equipment is our passion.  Amazing tech's and knowledge on this site with a plethora of audio equipment types.  You will fit right in.

Welcome to the CarverSite my friend--where OCCD runs rampant!!

Cool setup Zeprok123 I have 4 Cerwin Vega D9's played on 4 Carver M500T's and the term Kick Ass loud is an understatement. I have had them pushed to 125DB in my 16x24 livingroom at this point the rain gutters on the house are rattling. Crank it up and enjoy just make sure the rest of the apartment building is empty!

I use the Rectron HER305.   I recommend going with this one.

I am not sure if the Vishay UF5404 has been used by the other tech's.

Is the her305 and her305-T the same?  the 305 is a non stocked Mouser item
and the other 305s have different letters.  The 305 is called ultra fast and
the 305T is considered Standard.  Thanks for your input

I will definitely post some pics.  The black metal case is in somewhat
bad shape.  No rust but doesn't look good after cleaning.  I think I'm going
to spray some Rustoleum hammer black paint on it.  I like the look of it.

I'm already looking into a C-1 or something else.  Sonic holography sounds
interesting.  I watched all 30+ minutes of Miss Hologram.  I am using a
Sansui Ca-2000 as it's my only pre amp now.  I bought it because I've read
claims of a warm tube sound.  I've read similar posts about the 500.  Wonder if anyone else uses a Sui pre?

You can add a C-9 to your existing pre-amp to get Sonic Holography also. The C-1 is a great pre-amp as well but if you love your Sansui pre, adding a C-9 will also do the trick.

Yes, what PMAT said; SH will blow your mind!

I had a chance to get the C-1 off of CL recently for 150.  It was listed for
5 days when I found it.  Someone beat me to it when I found it, rats!

Cerwin Vega DX9.  4 ohm.  I recently redid the xrossovers with new Dayton
caps.  Also new foam on the woofers.  Bringing them and the amp to a party
at an American legion hall in July.   Party!

Welcome Ken,

You would love the C1. BTW, what speakers you running?

Actually I'm having a shop in Chicago do the work.  He's never done this
mod b4 but he has done good work for me.  I've sent him many links from this
website.  I wanted to do it myself but doubt I would have it done by the time I need it.  Looks like the pros here are backlogged otherwise I would have gone that route.
