But bloody hell, what is that thing on top? Is that supposed to be a tweeter? It looks like a variable capacitor tuner from an old military radio.

That is a Heil Air Motion Transformer. It squeezes air between thin strips of mylar to reproduce the top end.

@Butcher just trying to be funny as my only input can be traced back to only Polk Speakers.

So it was about taking a polk at one, another?  😏

How interesting - the picture seems to be shouting at anyone who views it.

Ah yes, the venerable "carpet face" with plastic horns. They just yell "I hate your ears".

Don't know where I posted my latest speaker project, but it is almost done and will be gone soon, so here is a parting shot. Dam, these things took way too long.

@kve777, what is a good strategy to pick up a pair of these?  How would you begin such a journey/trek/endeavor?

I'm assuming list price, new is not an option for many (me, anyway...).

Thoughts on where to look, what's a good buy?

I really like the wood grain and color on those speakers.

So, if you took the drivers out of any speaker cabinet that looked like those and put them in a beautiful cabinet, they would be acceptable? 😂

I don't know about everyones speakers but mine sound really good and when they start yelling at me I just adjust the mid and tweet and they calm down.

Indeed! The ribboning on the face is exquisite and the color helps it stand out. If I had to guess, I'd say Minwax Gunstock or Honey, or perhaps English Chestnut (my personal favorite, though it may seem a bit reddish on some woods).

As a Canton afficionado I especially appreciate the MTM arrangement. I have a pair of Karat 950 that have a similar D'Appolito configuration and they are my favorite small speakers. I must say I'm intrigued by the depth of the box. If you wouldn't mind, Krow, please let us in on the maths for this project.

I'm also considering these after they received his Kevendorsement. I found they make several of their lines in orange, my wife's favorite color. In all seriousness I can completely justify nearly any purchased item as long as I get it in orange:

"Luv, I've bought a BMW."

"More cars? First you've filled the house with all of this ridiculous stereo gear and now you're filling the garage with more vehicles?"

"Its Fire Orange. What do you think?"

"I'll help you clean out a space!"

As their Double Impact SE in orange looks like it would be at home in Michael York's condo in Logan's Run, I do believe I'd be very happy with those, assuming they sound as good as they look.

The search for used should start with https://www.hifishark.com/. Although I would consider new... not a lot of people wish to part with Tekton speakers.

I'll add that to my normal feed from hifishark.

All the really hard-to-find or esoteric stuff I desire comes up on hifishark..., but it's usually in Europe... it seems to be a pattern.

Has anyone took a chance of paying 1000's of dollars to a listing in Europe, and getting gear shipped over the pond?  I've not done that...  A few small items for sub-$100 from Germany I've took a chance on, and come out ok.  But nothing big, like speakers.
