peck555 366 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I was PMing with another forum member last night, and the question of how many speakers we have came up, and I was surprised by how many I had... So, that's the question folks, how many speakers do you have...in the listening room, in the home theater,in the closet...what do you have , count'em all up and let the surprises begin. Me: 12 pairs of speakers (mind you 3 pairs are Realistic speakers, although 1 pair is a pair of modded Minimus77's that sound great) 3 center channel speakers 1 subwoofer Dom mentioned car speakers, so: 2 pair in the sportscar, 1 pair of Hertz 5.5 in the dash, 1 pair of Polk 6.5" in the rear
martin1970 361 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 In the living room: 1 pair Amazings 1 pair DQ-8s as tweeters above 6kHz In the computer room: 2 pairs of Monsoon planar magnetics w/ subwoofers. In the Closet: Infinity's worst 5.1 setup ever. 1 pair Advent Powered Partners + plus sub. 1 pair Boston Acoustics 6 1/2" from old car. 1 pair itsy-bitsy pioneer car tweeters (13mm?) 1 pair Maggie SMGs In the attic: 1 pair of 800 ohm Philips speakers which only work with OTL tube amp. 1 gutted pair of DA PS-10 bookshelves. 1 diy car sub from about 20 years ago (been trying to remember where I left the other one for 15 years.) So, 10 1/2 pairs plus a 5.1 set. I can't wait to hear Rod's list!
Fabrokoner 21 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Pair of Infinity RSa's Pair of Infinity SS 2001's Pair of Criterion VI'sPair of Boston Acoustic HD 10's Pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10's Pair of Infinity 12" Mobile Subwoofers Rockford Fosgate DVC Mobile Subwoofer and some random drivers from trashed speakers. The only ones I really use are the RSa's and the Monitor 10's. If you would have caught me yesterday there would have been two more pairs of crappy speakers in that list.

zumbini 6,147 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Basically I have speakers in every room larger than a walk-in closet for a total of 10 pair. Plus, there are 2 Legacy subs in the man cave and a Design Acoutics DA20LF sub in my shop. My car has 2 pairs of tweeters, 1 pair of 4.25" mids, 1 pair of 6.5" mains (all JBL) and a 10" Rockford-Fosgate sub. Zack has a 5.1 system for his computer and a pair of Klipsch KG2.5 with a PSB sub in the basement. The band PA system consists of 4 passive mains, 2 powered fills and 3 wedge monitors, plus I'm building a pair of 18" subs. I also have a several pairs of cheap 3-ways boxed up (Dynaco, Harmon-Kardon, Radio Shack, Sony, etc). In addition I have a powered Koss M-100 Plus and a pair of Infinity RS2001 on the bench. Let's see, that comes to....a lot!

SteveFord 1,119 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Peck555, If I had to choose between the two it would be the Beyers hands down - the AKGs sound is more recessed with a lot less bass but they're more comfortable on my fat head. The Beyers feel like the ear muffs my mom made me wear as a kid. If you're just plugging it into a CD player or preamp the differences won't be as pronounced as if you were using a good headphone amp. I use the Beyers with a Woo, the AKGs with a Jolida, the Grados are plugged into the PC. The Grados are surprisingly good for $80 new or thereabouts. If I only had to choose one headphone it would be the Stax, if I went for another set of conventional headphones it would be one of the upscale Grados. Hope this helps.
