  1. Hi all, I've been a Carver enthusiast since as long as I can remember being fascinated by audio equipment, going back to the parents' system at a friend's house. I couldn't get enough of those round dials embedded in stealthy black faceplates... When I started putting my system together years later, moving on from basic A/V receivers, a Carver piece from that era (I don't recall the model) became my first real amp, even if I had learned by that point that it represented the lesser quality of the non-Bob period at Carver. That soon gave way to a stack of M-1.0t's, which I've stuck with for a couple decades now. I found my way here while researching the infamous Mk II mod, and while awaiting a reply from Nelion Audio -- I've since been told they're quite difficult to get a hold of -- had the opportunity to buy a couple of amps already modded. An introductory thread probably isn't the time and place to ask the question, but my next task is finding an "affordable" set of front and center speakers that can handle those gobs of power (460W RMS @ 8 ohms). I currently run NHT SuperTwo tower fronts and dual SuperOne centers, which are 175W and 150W RMS, respectively. I can feel them straining at the upper range of comfortable listening levels. I nearly bought some Linn AV5140's last week, but the seller decided at the last minute to not sell. Back to square one. p.s. The Follow Topic button ... I assume the default left position is No, and sliding it to the right is Yes? It sort of lights up to the left, but not enough to be sure that's what it's representing.

  5. Snowperson .. With very rising of the sun, think of your life as just begun. We received about 20 inches of snow this week. So.......... 8:00 am: I made a snowman. 8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman. 8:15 - So, I made a snow woman. 8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified women everywhere. 8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it should have been two snowmen instead. 8:22 - The transgender man / woman / person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts. 8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and are not to be used to decorate snow figures. 8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white. 8:30 - I used food coloring to make one of the snow couple a different color and be more racially inclusive. 8:37 - Then I was accused of using a black face on the snowperson. 8:39 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be completely covered. 8:40 - The police arrived saying someone had been offended. 8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role. 8:43 - The 'council on equality' officer arrived and threatened me with eviction. 8:45 - TV news crew from ABC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now a sexist. 9:00 - I was on the news as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe, and sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather. 9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services. 9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything, marched down the street demanding that I be arrested. 9:45 - The boss called and fired me because of the negative association with work that had been all over social media 10:00 - I cry into my drink because all I wanted to do was build a snowman... Moral: There is no moral to this story. It is what this world has become because of a bunch of snowflakes.

  8. What's the Novice threshold? I thought I read 5 likes, but it still shows me as Inbound. I'm not quite sure what my price range is, after blowing a big chunk on new old amps, which is why I put affordable in quotes. Once I sell off the old M-1.0t's, I'll likely be more comfortable in that respect. With used stuff, prices are all over the map, so I figure I'm best off looking for something I'll be happy with, then seeing what examples I can find of it. I haven't auditioned the newer NHT stuff. I looked at the Classic Four a few weeks back, as its RMS rating goes up to 250W. But, it's slightly lower sensitivity than my SuperTwo's and 4x the original cost. That math and reviews indicating their newer stuff tends to be brighter (I hate shrill highs with a passion...electric guitars are my nemesis...so please, no one recommend Klipsch!), made me not read up on them too much. I liked meaty Cerwin Vega's back in the day, and like Polk for car audio, but my impression has been that both would be a step backward for overall sound quality. Maybe I need to revisit my prejudices there?

  10. Hi everyone, I have a Carver M 1.5t for many years & which makes the KEF 104/2 sound divine from the Thorens TD150 turntable or the Marantz CD91 gold edition. The M 1.5t I'll have to ask some of you experts why the transformer started humming, but not now in this topic 🙂 in the meantime, a big hello to everyone and thanks from Italy. Jeff(:
