After a couple hours or research last night, I came to three (3) conclusions: 1. I can't believe I've never heard, or heard OF these. 2. I would very much like to listen to a set. 3. I have added them to my "targets of opportunity" list! Thanks for the interesting topic!

Welcome aboard. Your audio system (and quite possibly your wallet) will never be the same:-) Glad to have you -

I take it you never got to biamp those Kappa 9a's with 4 Silver 7t monoblocks? And I've had a chance to hear those 8.1's on a Krell KSA amp. Those 8.1's have a little more thump than the original Kappa 8's but the Kappa 9"s are in a whole class of thier own if you have the room and the power to boot. Arnie designed those speakers perfectly. I figured you'd weigh in on this, Gene... And for the record, I'd buy a pair of 9s in a second, if they came available - but I won't take out a second mortgage to do it:-)
-
No, I caught that too. I'm going to switch the ICs and see if the right channel is working harder - should tell me if its the speakers or the amp...?

Here's a short video of the new Kappas pegging my 500t!

I only took the one picture with my Iphone - I will shoot another of them pegging my 500t meters, before I hook the 1.0t mkII up.

Yesterday I satisfied my 20 year lust/craving for Infinity Kappa speakers. I have been looking for a set of nines, but they are harder to come by than ALIIIs... So I seattled on a Gorgeous set of 8.1s that were a local p/u about 3 hours fom home. Hooked them up tonight, and I must say, definitely worth the wait:-) However... Talk about power HOGGS... they forced my 500t into shutdown mode!! In the 500t's defense, I WAS pushing it pretty hard. Tomorrow I'm going to slap them with my Rich P 1.0t mkII - that should keep them happy, and if not, I'll feed them with TFM 55x & 35x bi- amped. A special thanks to Gene for the advice and council on Kappas! I'll post some pics tomorrow:-). 20 years... Sometimes, good things DO come to those who wait:-)

I agree that Polk represents a great value, and they provide great all-around sound. I have a set of LS 70s in my family room that have been used every day for 20 years. That being said, my Klipsch RF 7s in the theater room provide a more "honest" sound - with great source material (SACD, DVD audio) they sound MAGICAL. however, the Polks make mediocre recordings sound better than the Klipsch. FWIW

Welcome Terry! Glad to have you here. You're going to have no shortage of power, when Greg gets done with your amps. Are you having him do the mkII mods? What are you going to be driving with them? As Dom said, we LOVE pictures...:-)
-
I am currently bi-amping my Klipsch RF7s with two MKII 1.0ts. I recently had the opportunity to pick up a MKII 500t, and did a side by side. I found the 500t a better match with my RF7s, and am currently searching for a good donor 500t to mod, and have a pair. My speakers are rated at 103db sensitivity, but I still like the extra power from bi-amping.... FWIW.

Thanks for the succinct reply, Schurkey, and welcome to the site. I did install the spikes that came with my RF7s. It was a bit of a PITA, to get them to where they didn't wobble (that whole 4 leg restraunt table thing). I can't honestly say there is an audible difference, but it makes me FEEL better, knowing they are solidly coupled to the concrete under the carpet. Eliminating my toe-in on my mains however, DID create a surprising audible difference. My soundstage opened up considerably:-)

That is some nice work! Where do you get the Clarity Caps? I have a treasured pair of Polk LS 70 that I use every day in my living room - is this something I should be doing to them? Also a CS 350 center....?

Cat's In The Cradle, by Harry Chapin- So eloquint and yet so simple. Really makes me slow down and spend time with my kids. My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind" He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad It's been sure nice talking to you" And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then
