  1. Drag and drop, cut and paste..., 😉 Welcome @MD80MECH, glad you found us. Looking forward to seeing your audio gear - that is a nice list!
  2. Welcome @SaintCarver, glad you found us. We love pictures too..., show us your gear!
  3. Welcome, @Horseshoez, glad you found us. Send the amp to @Nelion. Amp's ship well, when packed well. Contact @Circuits & Concepts, here on this TheCarverSite, with a direct message, or on Ebay (same name as an ebay seller). The tuner experience you describe is common, and I believe he has a part that fixes it. If you are handy with a soldering iron, and have the interest, it may be easy for you to do. Les, at Circuits and Concepts is very helpful with instruction, and may even give you advice on where to send it if you feel you don't have the skill to attack this fix. As for the turntable, these are fairly simple devices..., and I'd say, that of the list you have for restoration, the one thing that is missing is "lubrication"..., the bearing that the spindle sits on, has grease that turns to goo, and even sometimes hardens..., making any other repairs moot. It's got to spin freely, before the motor and belt are going to make it play. I'd first go to the Thoren's Facebook Group. It's pretty comprehensive, and has a LOT of resources (people) that know where to get parts..., like the counterweight you are missing. Lots of those parts are also available on Ebay..., for the Thorens line. That's a great TT, and worth putting back into commission now that your Carver journey is starting up again. We hope you kick back, and stay a while, and keep telling us about your restoration journey, the music you like, and more..., oh, and yes, we LOVE pictures!! 😉
  4. Welcome @konrad. Good luck on the sale, and also we'd love it if you hung out, and shared more about your Carver Journey. Many of us are like you, got into Carver 30+ years ago. Lots of history here.
  5. If basing the decision on cost..., good info above on the refresh costs..., but I imagine you would like the "best sounding" with the "most flexible" preamp. The C-1 is a workhorse, and for many that "set it and forget it", it is a great, low-noise-floor preamp. I have several, with the BillD mods. A couple for my kids, and one or two in the house. The C4000 vs the 4000t dilemma requires a bit more complex analysis. The C4000 seem to be more common, and available. It preceded the 4000t. both look very similar on the faceplate, but have significant differences. both support "surround" configurations, but the C4000 has internal chip-amps driving speaker-level outputs (see the back faceplate, or go to the manuals library here on this site, to review the controls and hook-up configurations for both these). the 4000t, has line-level output for the surround channels, and many just use the main L and R channels in a 2-channel configuration, which is just fine (and to my liking as well). I have a Bonzoro 4000t, like @Sk1Bum mentioned..., it's really just refreshed, and a few tweaks. To be sure, neither the 4000t nor the C4000 have "dolby" surround, it predates the mass adoption of "Dolby", and is Bob Carver's "derived" surround implementation, which is quite good. Since the 4000t came out later than the C4000 preamp, it has a few of the "fixes" in it, that come from lessons learned in the original C4000, some of the old-timers here have commented. My personal preference for a 2 channel setup is the 4000t from the list of options you are considering. Although, if you have a fully refreshed C-1 or a 4000t or a C4000, they all are recognised as outstanding options for a preamp.
  6. Welcome @TRupp, so glad you found us. ...remember, when it comes to your Carver gear..., it's a "Journey, not a Destination!" 😉
  7. Wow. love that room, and the set-up. Excellent. I'm betting at night, the mood lights make this a super place to hang out.
  8. Love the write-up, and learning from your experience. I use Audyssey in my Marantz AV receiver to get it close, but find I need to tweak it, especially the center channel where dialog is supposed to be channeled..., could just be my ears, but I like the tool, to get close..., then try to stay near what the Audyssey computed...
  9. Welcome @MikeTyler, glad you found us. Looking forward to learning more about your Carver Journey.
  10. Welcome @bigeyesteve, glad you found us. hope we see more (pictures) of your gear! As for Quadraphonic Media (Vinyl), I don't actually look for it, but regularly go to Record Shows in the Chicago Area, and see a lot of vinyl for quadraphonic recordings for sale. My observation is that this doesn't move well, and see a lot of buyers making offers, that get accepted, from the vendors at these shows.
  11. Here's the thread where @Magnaryder posted Bob Carver's write-up on MQA..., nope, he didn't like it either, way back in 2017. Null testing turns over all the stones...
  12. I received this yesterday from Tidal. I've noted in the news a few independent efforts (poorly funded, IMHO) that are attempting to revive MQA as a format..., but without a business model, and fairly well debunked actual value (see Bob Carver's write-up on MQA in the ether-space somewhere) ..., I'd say that it's well beyond reviving, and, well, not even on life support. The fact that Tidal is dropping support for it..., seems to be a clear statement that the "corpse is rotting, and starting to smell..." Snake oil seems to have its season, then just fades away. Full transparency, I was never taken in by MQA, so this is somewhat vindicative of an earlier decision.
  13. Welcome @cmmonte92, glad you found us. When you get a chance, be sure to share a post picture of your new gear and setup. We love pictures!
  14. Welcome @djs4465, glad you found us. Post some pictures when you can!
  15. Welcome @John Howell, glad you found us. Hope to see more posting of your PM project. Oh, it goes without saying that we LOVE pictures of audio gear..., 😉
  16. Welcome @CARVER 1980, glad to have you and looking forward to your contributions. Start a thread on your system, and post some pictures! 😉 we love pictures.
  17. Welcome @ScratchyWax, glad you found us! That C-1 is an excellent component to begin with...
  18. Welcome @RangerTim, glad you found us. We love pictures..., show us your gear, when you get a minute.
  19. Welcome, @5xRi340G. glad you found us. this is a great place with super cool members with a focus on Audio, specifically Carver gear of all kinds. I love my FM tuners..., I have the top-of-the-line TX-11b, as well as a TX 12 (the only one from Carver with a remote control)..., and the TX-11 and 11a..., They are great. When you pair them with a super good/efficient antenna, they are even better! I live west of chicago, and with my antenna in the attic, I get a station on just about every frequency from all over WI, IN, IA, MN, IL, and MI. Again, glad to have you aboard. As you get comfortable, please consider starting a tuner thread..., or, post some pictures of your gear..., we love pictures! 😉
  20. If "scarcity" drives value, our Carver gear may gain as a result! 😉 ..., another positive!
  21. I like to look at this as a Bob Carver and Jim Clark SUCCESS ! It's easy to dwell on all the negatives - and much harder to look at, and relish the positives. Here's what I wrote a few weeks ago on the (stolen/hijacked) TheCarverSite Facebook Page @RichP714 set up way back in 2008/9 as a social media adjunct to TCS. I posted this because there were, as always on social media / the internet in general, the vocal "haters" focusing on the negative..., my post generated 97 positive likes/reactions as well as 4 shares and 22 congratulatory comments. There is hope and light when we look for it! (If you are on Facebook, scroll down and give it a "like" - let's see if we can push this over 100..., I think it's a record for a post on that FB Group.
  22. Welcome, @emanuele933, glad you found us. I think we have several members who reside in Italy. Some have done some good contributions (threads) here. I'm looking forward to your TFM-25 thread when you start it. Others will too! And..., it goes without saying, we love pictures!!!, lots of pictures..., they are worth 1000's of words in your thread. Again, Welcome to TCS!
  23. Welcome @Russr, glad you found us. What Carver components are you looking for? Maybe some of us have spares we need to sell 😉
  24. Welcome to the forum, @Ernst Land, Glad you found us. That TFM-35 is very respectable... What speakers are you driving? Many here have similar stories picking up their gear back when serving in the military. The CT-3 is also very functional and a good start point - probably both the amp and preamp could use refreshing and resetting all tune-able factors. Welcome! And post pictures of your gear when you can!
