What is the proper pf setting for my cartridge and a C-1 preamp?
kve777 replied to stevenlevel's topic in Vinyl
Thanks I just didn't see that But I have both the vinyl and CD versions of that excellent recording When setting up your cartridge, I highly recommend that you use the vinyl. I use DSOTM because I know it so well. Use whatever your favorite vinyl is, so you know when it's 'just right'. -
What is the proper pf setting for my cartridge and a C-1 preamp?
kve777 replied to stevenlevel's topic in Vinyl
Due to a lack of published specs, I set to the middle, listen to DSOTM, if it sound right I leave it, if not I try the other setting and use the one that sounds the best. It's a good idea to write down the cartridge/arm/cables/setting for each change, so you can go back faster in a swap, and have a good starting place on the next unknown. -

Also, how about the sister trio 'Joseph' with "SOS" on their 'I'm Alone, No You're Not' album?

You could just add one of THESE boards internally or externally to your preamp. -
I see MM's confusion, "Water Under The Bridge"by Pshychodots,on 'Psychodots' and "Jaco", by Jonas Hellborg, on 'Bass'.

Some of the early selections on the list have errors or are incomplete, here are some corrections: 1.- 'I Can't Give Everything Away' by David Bowie on the "Blackstar" album. 2.- 'Tin Pan Alley' by Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble on "Couldn't Stand the Weather" album. 3.- 'Under Pressure' by David Bowie and Queen on Queen's "Hot Space" album. 4.- 'You Want It Darker' by Leonard Cohen on "You Want it Darker", his fourteenth album. 5.- 'From the Beginning' by Emerson Lake & Palmer from "Trilogy". 6.- 'Piano Concerto #1' by Emerson Lake & Palmer from "Works, Vol.1" 7.- 'The Gypsy's Wife' by Leonard Cohen from "Recent Songs" album. 8.- 'Pepperland Suite' by George Martin from "In my Life". 9.- 'Toccata' by Emerson Lake & Palmer, a live performance from "Welcome Back My Friends..." 10.-(OK) 11.- 'Man in the Long Black Coat' by Bob Dylan on "Oh Mercy" 12. You can delete 'The Road To Hell', it's on the first Carver Site CD. 13.- 'Hotel California' by The Eagles, live from "Hell Freezes Over". 14.- 'Why Can't You Behave' written by Cole Porter, recorded by The Porter Project found on "The Porter Project" album. 15.- 'Children of the Sun' by Billy Thorpe on "Children of the Sun". 16.- (OK) 17.- 'On the Border' by The Eagles from the "On the Border". 18.- 'Thunder and Birdies' by Flim & the BB's on "Tricycle".

Nothing simpler than this: The number to remember is the length- 57.3" , for a half wave dipole.

If the volume pot is truly bad, it's a great time to consider a remote volume control upgrade.

please submit songs in this format: 'Song Name Here', by Artist Name Here on "Album Name Here" with the punctuation, so he can put them on the list.

Welcome! Sorry about your C-1 troubles. Sounds like dirty or damaged volume potentiometer. Member AR9Jim isn't far from Chicago. He's doing repairs. Contact him, or we can get him to contact you.

If there is no Prince song suitable for a C! Reference CD of 2016 artists who have passed; then should we be considering music he wrote for other artists to perform? BB King (AKA King of the Blues) passed in 2015, should he be included here? Ya got me! OK, There is ONE Prince song I could live with, actually- 'Sign o' theTimes' by on his 1987 "Sign o' the Times" album.
-
There are a lot of artists on the list for 2016. Not all of them will be represented here. Was Prince a significant artist? I have to say "Yes". Is he on any of my playlists? No. If there are a good number of members who listen to Prince as regularly as, say, Frank Zappa, then I will second that nomination. So I ask- Who willingly listens to Prince's music on a regular basis?

Are we starting a Terrible Songs CD?

I emailed Maddmaster some corrections to his list. He's doing a great job keeping track of them all, but might not be familiar with all of the selections, so to make his job easier, please submit songs in this format: 'Song Name Here', by Artist Name Here on "Album Name Here" with the punctuation, so he can put them on the list. The management thanks you for your cooperation. Have a pleasant evening.

It's also one of three extremely over-played songs I refuse to listen to anymore. Freebird, Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven. The Hell Freezes Over live Hotel California is one of my go-to reference tracks. It is one of the best engineered live recordings I have heard. I could live with that live version.

Infinity 9 Kappa Placement and Zero Soundstage Problem
kve777 replied to Greg Viggiano's topic in Loudspeakers
Your room is almost certainly NOT the problem IMHO, and 20x17 is far from small. I had my set in a 12x14 room, and they sounded fabulous. Your problem is likely not enough power. I assume you're using the 200w on the drivers - the impedance curve on the 9 is crazy (1.4 ohms at some frequencies), and you need an amp that can push A LOT of current. I have run mine on Silver 9t mono blocks, and I have bi-amped them with a pair of 1.0t mkIIs - I prefer the mkIIs. These speakers need A TON of power to come alive, and it's not about volume - they just suck a lot of current. I would also check to see if your drivers were wired back correctly after they were refoamed.... Mine came with two M-1.0t's and I felt that was under-powered. Greg, You want to try a pair of PM-1.5's? -

I'd like to propose 'On the Border' by the Eagles because: "This track was inspired by the Watergate scandal and fears of the government overstepping its bounds and infringing on people's privacy. Barely audible at the end of the song, Glenn Frey can be heard whispering "Say Goodnight, Dick," a line made famous by Dan Rowan of Rowan and Martin but in this case referring to Richard Nixon's resignation.[20] Nixon would indeed resign five months after the release of the album." by Browne, David (June 10, 2016). "Eagles' Complete Discography: Don Henley Looks Back". Rolling Stone.
