  1. I emailed Maddmaster some corrections to his list. He's doing a great job keeping track of them all, but might not be familiar with all of the selections, so to make his job easier, please submit songs in this format: 'Song Name Here', by Artist Name Here on "Album Name Here" with the punctuation, so he can put them on the list. The management thanks you for your cooperation. Have a pleasant evening.
  2. It's also one of three extremely over-played songs I refuse to listen to anymore. Freebird, Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven. The Hell Freezes Over live Hotel California is one of my go-to reference tracks. It is one of the best engineered live recordings I have heard. I could live with that live version.

  4. I'd like to propose 'On the Border' by the Eagles because: "This track was inspired by the Watergate scandal and fears of the government overstepping its bounds and infringing on people's privacy. Barely audible at the end of the song, Glenn Frey can be heard whispering "Say Goodnight, Dick," a line made famous by Dan Rowan of Rowan and Martin but in this case referring to Richard Nixon's resignation.[20] Nixon would indeed resign five months after the release of the album." by Browne, David (June 10, 2016). "Eagles' Complete Discography: Don Henley Looks Back". Rolling Stone.
  5. "From the Beginning" by ELP, first song? Tribute to two greats- Keith Emerson and Greg Lake.
  6. I'm(finally) putting all my CD's on my cloud. Tonight I found my Reference Disc 2014. I had put it in a safe place. Anyway, it's been a while and there's been a lot of good music out since then. Let's try to pick a dozen or so songs from 2014-2017, maybe new groups like XX or new music by old(or passed) artists we've loved for years. In fact, let's just go with artists we lost in 2016. Bowie, Cohen, Prince... I think we can come up with a dozen call it "In Memoriam, 2016" I want to nominate "I Can't Give Everything Away" from 'Blackstar', possibly first or last. Fitting last song, actually. Who wants to do the compiling and burning of the discs? I won't do a great job and it will take forever...
  7. Welcome! A C-1 is a great place to start owning Carver. Stick around and you will buy more. I guarantee!
  8. Preamp.Absolutely. I proved this exact point ten years ago. I had a shop system- Toshiba CD player, Carver MXR-150 receiver and a nice little pair of Allison (AL-110's) bookshelf speakers. Sounded really good. Then I bought a Conrad Johnson Premier 17-LS S2. Tried it in the first system I came across, well it was that shop system. I put The CJ in instead of the Carver pre section. WOW! Totally different sound. Crazy imaging, no harshness. It was nuts! Never have I heard such a radical change in sonic signature. The best word was "Unveiling", totally like I flipped off the Hi Cut and Low Cut switches. I just was in awe. I wanted to wrap myself up in that sound, it was so good. Definitely one piece I should have kept, but I needed to flip it. So, yes, the preamp is the most important component. Choose wisely. Your ears are depending on you!
  9. Have you checked the output in a pair of headphones?

    Carverfest 2016

I'm committing to 5 for the week. Not sure about Bill.
  11. None here, either, but I do have a Sony DAC machine, with tapes, in case you get bored with the minidisc. Can't you just cut down a CD? Most of the info is in the middle anyway... Or- Buy a pile of used discs HERE
  12. I noticed some similarity to a song by Pink Floyd on The Wall, too. Can't put my finger on the song, though. Guess I'll have to listen to the whole thing again real soon!
  13. The C-7030 Laser can be bought HERE for about $30.00. Apparently they are becoming a problem failure.
  14. You are not going to fix that hole. HERE is a copy for $3.39. Just buy it and throw away the other one. Simple. Money for Nothing came out late in 1988.
  15. Welcome! To add to Zumbini's amp info- many of the good speaker choices have dips into low impedance, which isn't good for bridged amps. The M-4.0t/TFM-42/TFM-45 family is a great place to start with high power requirements and match that C-9.
  16. I've contemplated doing a 'blue' tuner or receiver. Lots of work. The sticking buttons is easier- take it apart and clean the contact pads with rubbing alcohol 92%.
  17. Driviong 40+ miles a day to and fro, it's nice to see $1.559. I remember when I was driving my E-250 and doing courier work, filled up a 33 gal. tank THREE times in ONE DAY! At almost $4.00/gal., you do the math... Still, I want to build or buy an electric vehicle. Something simple and light, like a Hyundai Accent or Honda Civic. Cover the roof hood and trunk with Solar cells and a nice sized storage battery. Gotta be something better than Li-Ion, though.
  18. I've found a few out thrifting and at flea markets. Nobody really special. Gotta wait 'til they die to maybe be worth anything. This might be the year for a lot of that.(too soon?)
