  1. Welcome to the madness! (psst...what tubes you runnin' in that pre? Wanna do some rollin'?) We do like to have fun. Except for the grouchy guy in Ontario, who will remain nameless. (Shhh! Rod might be listening.)
  2. He lives closer to Bellmawr. Not too far from me. Camden area. Congrats, Bill!
  3. Welcome, Sean. Very nice 2 CH system. Stick around and join in on the fun!

    Quiex II vinyl?

I just scored some excellent vintage vinyl. One album- Mister Heartbreak, a 1984 effort by Laurie Anderson had a Quiex II Limited Edition Pressing sticker on it. The reason I bought it is I saw Adrian Belew and Peter Gabriel listed on the back. Nice album. Sound quality is above average. Hell, it's over 30 years old and sounds like new! Anybody else have any Quiex II's?
  6. Just scored some great vinyl at a thrift store including the childhood fav-
  7. When you get to this level of fine tuning, measurements mean less and personal taste reigns supreme. The kind of music, room and hearing damage to the lister become critical. I personally need about 10 systems. One for TV/Movies, one for Pink Floyd, another for Nine Inch Nails, yet another for Nirvana. Then there's the women- Tori Amos, Stevie Nicks, The Wilson sisters, Dusty Springfield... There is no end!

  9. I get it. I have a Sony STR-DA4ES, same as yours, but a touch less power. Maybe missing a zone, not important. What you need to do is get one of those cheap AV input selectors. Use it to choose different configurations for your subs. If you solder the L and R leads together inside, you can eliminate your Y connectors, too.
  10. Pioneer sold drivers for DIY cabinets, (like everybody else!)so the cabinets may not be Pioneer, but take pics of the drivers. I had 12" coax Pioneers from the early 60's as well as a couple of tube receivers. Quality stuff!
  11. I do have THESE looking for a new home.
  12. For a 1,000 ft2 room I'd be going Klipsch- Cornwalls, K-horns or LaScala's. At least 4. 8 would be ideal. 4 corner stacks, upper ones inverted. If you use four, put them in two corners, stacked, uppers inverted. You might not need subs.
  13. I might cut them and solder connections a few inches away, just to avoid overheating the VC leads. A real concern considering the amount of solder I see. Are all of the connections like that? I have to pull six drivers.
  14. I dragged 'em in and they are in the basement. It's crowded down there. But here goes- The woofer surrounds will be easy. The Polygraphs, not so much. I went to remove one- damn! The solder the spade connections! Once I get them off, I have a plan. It includes a couple of woofer dust caps that have the exact size and shape needed. The surround roll will be the most delicate. I will reinforce and repair them with RTV. I shall document with photos.
  15. One thing I do not have is an active crossover. Yet...
  16. JBL can be conservative on it's spec's sometimes. I guess I gotta plug 'em in. Well, hook some amps up to them. Perfect duty for two of those DA-2's. No room for these subs right now.
  17. I've got a couple of these JBL corner subs, never hooked 'em up. Seem quite efficient. I should put two CRM-2's on top... 18. That's Right! I forgot about the impedance dip. That's why I love you guys. Keep me from hurting myself. I just put an offer in on an TFM-55x...to go with my C-11 and TL-3300 I just checked, the DA-2's are good for 580 watts per channel at 2 ohms. No 2 ohm rating bridged. Dual mono, so no advantage running four, like Carver's with 'power steering'
  19. I like the meters on the 500's! The DA-2's are boring to look at. Greg, you want another pair of AL-III's? Plus' this time. In black.
  20. Looking for power info for feeding Kappa 9's in bi-amp. Carver amps available(all stock, no MKII)- Four M-1.0t(two inverting, two non-inverting), Three M-500t and an M-1.5t. My immediate thought is use the M-1.5t for the low ends of both, or two bridged M-1.0t and a bridged M-500t for each high/mid. Four bridged M-1.0t comes to mind next. What do you guys think would work best? What I really want to hear is four SoundStream DA-2 amps, bridged. That basically makes them 1200 watt monoblocks according to the guy who designed and built them. Volume control restraint must be practiced!
  21. Besides Sunfire, definitely try JBL, Klipsch, PSB and Velodyne!
  22. No good if you live in a yurt!
