  1. Thanks. That is the one format I never tried and missed that one totally. I find the DTS Audio disc are great. However, they run the Bass on the "HOT" side. It is deep and full sounding, while the SACD only shines in that area if you are pretty much running full size speakers all the way around the room. That is so true, matching speakers and amps for all 5 or 7 channels is a must with SACD's.
  2. Got 'em! Tried it out. Nice player. Looks and works like new! Decodes the HDCD no problem. No skipping. PM me if you are interested in it. I'm knee deep in CD changers, mostly Sony. Mark, How much for the Mannheim Steamroller CD? I'll send the others back.
  3. I was under that impression, too, but I'd like to hear for myself!
  4. I just acquired a Denon DCM-390 CD player ($19.99 at Goodwill, with the remote!) and it is supposed to play HDCD's. I don't have one and thought maybe somebody here could give, sell or lend me one to see if it works and to compare to my Sony SACD's. Pink Floyd DSOTM would be first choice, NIN Downward Spiral would be second, as I have both of those in regular stereo and SACD already. It's really clean and I will probably be flipping it if anyone really wants it, PM me.

    Headphones

If I was going to buy a new pair I'd get Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Professional Studio Monitor Headphones. Less than $200.00. Good reviews. If I was rich, I'd get Sennheiser HD800 Audiophile Headphones @ $1799.95. I've been most impressed by old Sennheisers, but they usually need new foam ear pads. Sound is way better than Koss.
  6. I've had several pairs of Klipsch Heresy speakers. I run Polks right now too, RTA-15tl's. You may find the Klipsch horns quite a bit brighter and way more efficient. You would NOT need two M-500's for a pair of Heresy's. One is overkill. I liked the LaScala's for more bass than the Heresy. Better have a BIG room for those. My two cents.
  7. Send me the woofers, I'll take care of them. If they are shot, I have an extra pair. My next reform job is four AR-93's, there are 8 woofers in all. I've done hundreds, it's kinda fun. A few tips- - Use folded cardboard strips as 'springs' to hold the cone up gently while attaching the surround to the cone. Two to five, depending on the size. - Mark the "up" position before removing from the cabinet, install upside-down when done to counter spider sag. - Use 50/50 white glue and water brushed on dry cones for extra strength. - Use 50/50 black RTV and acetone for that 'wet' look over surrounds like on Snells. - I like 3M Plastic and Emblem Adhesive to bond surrounds. Get it at auto parts stores.
  8. Nice Karma Daddyjt! Reminds me that I need to find another Karma item soon... Enjoy it, Gene!
  9. Wow, I'm in for Steely Dan "Aja" and Pink Floyd "DSOTM" as well...use them all the time. Have multiple CD, vinyl, 8-track, etc. of each.
  10. I am a giver of music. Not a receiver... OK, because I have what I like. I've given away lots of vinyl and CD's. I wouldn't live long enough to listen to Dom's collection!
  11. This is your wiring- I like the yellow 'antennae lead' from #9 + terminal.
  12. A bracket like this might help on the back to keep things stable-
  13. Old 901's? I used to have a pair of originals, I had to replace all of the drivers due to a very bad AMPZILLA. Anyway, looking at the wires inside, I would deem it a requirement to rewire with better stuff and install proper binding posts. Do one, compare them. You will have to map the internal wiring it's parallel AND series. Don't mess up the phasing. Here's your map- If you really don't want to go in, an L or Z bracket on the back could piggyback the posts with short wires. BTW- did you try the 901 EQ with the Maggies? Just curious if it helps them, too...
  14. I remember him from Hawkwind in the 70's!
  15. I call it 20.5. Actually, I have two 1960's Fisher consoles I could use as furniture and subs, they can take two 12" subs each, kinda cool with an NAD 2200PE powering each cabinet. Just gotta get a deal on 4 subs...
  16. I've put 20 pairs of speakers into my living room, so speakers sound just like in the store!
  17. Judging by all of the EV speakers I've seen over the years, Z is correct.
  18. Welcome Back! Keep the Velodyne for HT use. A Sunfire sub might be a good bet with the B&W's. PSB makes some great 2-channel subs that blend well with a variety of main speakers. If you are really critical, get two, one for each channel. Really.
  19. I picked up one of those exact Ampeg amps at a huge flea market for $35.00. It was not working. It was turned into a lamp. I sold it on eBay(minus the lamp bits) for a pretty penny. The trannys were good.
  20. I like Polk RT-35's for small speakers. Very nice sound.
  21. If you read- they removed the(problematic) amp section to make them passive. Source is a bankrupt seller...
  22. Any AR9Ls you want to sell??? I have AR-94's...
