Carverfest 2015 Sonorous Speaker Tech Support
helicopter pilot doug replied to Nahash5150's topic in Loudspeaker repair
I know better, but I tried to solder the mini XLR and had the same problem with the pin moving and ruining the connector. I say I know better because when making balanced interconnects with XLR connectors, I always use the female and male connectors plugged into each other. (I have a set of XLR M & F connectors that are dedicated to soldering.) This makes the other connector a heat sink, as well as holding the pins in the proper position so they should not move. I have worked with 4 pin mini XLR for the Audeze headphones, and can tell you from first hand experience these mini XLR's can be a PITA to solder! Just plug the female and male connectors together and that should keep the pins from melting the plastic and moving out of place. Hope this will help. -

Martin, Thank you so much!!! That is a big help seeing the schematic of the drivers and the photo of everything laid out like that. LOL, I could read the instructions 20 times and never have the understanding I get from seeing what you posted above. Thank you Martin!! -
Carverfest 2015 Sonorous Speaker Tech Support

Martin, wish my speakers and stands had arrived so I could get a grasp on what the mating between the speaker and stand looks like. If there is enough room, a speakon connector might be the best answer. One of these on the bottom of the speaker, and one of these insie the stand pole, if there is enough room. The hole in the bottom of the speaker would more than likely need to be enlarged. The female connector is a little over 1" in diameter, and don't know if it would fit inside the stand post or not. Anyway, just a thought. -
The chart above clearly shows "Nixon's Colossal Monetary Error: The Verdict 40 Years Later" Back to the original topic and the OHM speakers. If you are going to Carverfest, go visit Eddie in Cabin 7. Last year he had his OHM Walsh speakers and I'm sure they will be there again this year. Great sounding set up!

Dom, if you are interested, I have 4 of the MW6503 drivers and 2 of the MW6511 drivers from a bulk purchase I made a couple of years ago. These are genuine Polk replacement drivers. Two of the 6503 boxes were open. The drivers are wrapped in the original plastic shrink wrap, and they look pristine. PM me if you are interested in them.

Carver Site- The BIG LISTEN! Group participation!

I think this is a great idea. Especially the toast to BillD. I never had the good fortune to meet him, but did get to have conversations here on the Carversite. So, 9PM here in the Central time zone, on New Years Eve, a Toast to Bill and all the great folks here on the site. Won't be Jack Daniels though. It will be the one bottle of Bourbon we have in the house, and my favorite sipp'n whisky for special occasions, Makers Mark. -
I have the Polk SRS 2 speakers, the blade/blade interconnect version. Thy are phenomenal speakers. If they have not been upgraded with new caps, it's well worth doing. The Polk forum has a couple of great threads about them. http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/138538/sda-srs-2-need-cpr-and-icu-life-support http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/74946/sda-srs-2-crossover-parts-list Both are kind of long, but well worth the read.

Carversite 2014 Reference disc notes
helicopter pilot doug replied to Daddyjt's topic in Physical digital
Mark, thank you for all your hard work on this project. The Reference Disc Notes will come in very handy!!! Flight of the Cosmic Hippo is without a doubt one of my favorites to show off the system. -
I have 3 different speakers that have owned and still own btw, which have impressed me the most. Polk Audio SDA 2B's which have been rebuilt and hot rodded with all the tweaks and upgrades that can be done to them. They have great bass, very clear and natural mids, and highs that have a wonderful sound. Much better than the original tweeters that came in them. Polk Audio SRS 2's which again have been fully rebuilt, tweaked and modded. These speakers have that sound I always wanted, so rich and full sounding. The bass is to die for! No need for a sub, unless it's for the LFE channel when watching movies. These are my main speakers in the living room HT/Stereo set up. Sunfire CRM2's. As so many have commented, How the heck can so much sound come out of such a small speaker?????? The first time I heard ribbon tweeters I understood what all the fuss was about. As Wayne said, "Ribbons Rule"!!! I use my CRM2's in the road set up along with a Sunfire tube pre, a fully rebuilt 300/2 and a True Subwoofer Signature. This set up blows people's minds, that have not heard CRM2's before. Oh and one more. The Polk Audio Monitor 10A's. I have them in my shop set up on shelves above my work bench. They have not been touched since new, and they have very good sound. They are being fed by a C-11 pre and a TFM-55. This set up is for more for background music, than critical listening, but it sounds really good to me. My favorite of all these speakers I have to say are the CRM-2's. This may change after next years Carverfest though. We are building some new speakers at the fest, that should be even better than the CRM2's!!!

We don't have the jumpers on the website yet. It's something I've been meaning to do for a long time, but never got round tuit. Just PM me and we'll figure out what you need.
-
Here is a set of jumpers we make that would be better than the original gold plated brass jumpers or the aluminum beer can mod. They can be made any length you need, and with any combination of spades and/or bananas.
