Hey guys check these out.  I got  these going for a buddy of mine, they are a pair of Technics SB-7000a.  I had to repair both tweeters, voice coil wire was broken from flex wire going to the terminals. I also gave them a good cleaning, they came from a smoking environment all the parts that are silver now used to be brown.  I have been listening to these for a couple of hours now, really nice deep tight bass and crisp clean highs with a well rounded mid range.  I might have to try them out with my tube amp.
Here are a few pictures.

Nice score, Mike! emsmile.gif

Isn't there supposed to be foam on the surface the mid sits on, to control reflections?

Mad Mike,

In your first picture, is that an EPI 180 with its back to the camera, just to the left of your turntable?

Cool speakers. I had picked up a pair of those at the Goodwill store in Denton, TX for about $30 a pair. They were missing one of the top grills so I fabricated a duplicate of it. The cabinets were a little rough and I eventually parted them out and sat the cabinets to the curb. The tweeters fetch a good price typically as they are unobtanium anymore. Mine went to a fellow in Germany. I always liked seeing those at. Store in Little Rock when I was a kid and drooling over them in the stereo magazines. There's a 4-way version that is sweet but I forget the model number.

An old friend of mine has a pair with the woofer surrounds deteriorated. He bought them when we were in the Navy, 1978 I believe. Drove them with a Sansui CA/BA 2000 setup.

I'll be seeing him in Copperas Cove in a few weeks.

Yes there was it was disappearing as you touched it. I am amazed that the woofer and mid surrounds are still in great shape.

Those are a pair of EPI 200b/ They have new binding posts along with new tweeters now, the originals had the glue that holds the magnet let go, destroyed the voice coil. I have a pair of Hiel's that Doh-R turned me on too. They sound great with my tube amp, still lack a little bass though.

Here is another pic with the grills on.

So my buddy wants to sell these, now the question what are they worth?  They did clean up pretty good.  He also has a Mitsubishi LT-30 linear tracking turn table.  I replaced belts in it and have a new Grado Prestige series cartridge coming for it, also the question of what it's worth.  We have been runnning it for over a week now and all functions as it should.

SB7000a's have sold on ebay recently for $125 (poor), $250 (OK), $395 (matched, very good) and $495 (matched, minty).

LT-30's have sold for $199 (cosmetic damage to plinth), $429 (7.5/10, scratched dust cover) and $431.99 (VG, scratched dust cover)

.Thanks for the info Dom. I might be the new owner to both the speakers and the turntable. He also has a Technics SA-5760 Receiver that I am trying to get going too.

I'm not a big fan of the LT-30 turntables but they have quite a cult following and hold their value really well.

You guys got any tips on cleaning these grill clothe?  These speakers spent most of their lives in a smoking environment.  I tried Automotive Upholstery and Carpet cleaner, it seams to loosen the tar and nicotine. Spent a few hours today leaning on the volume control making sure the tweeters don't fail and so far so good.  These things sound pretty sweet for a late 70's Japanese speaker.  I am going to make my buddy an offer. Big Grin

Burn the cloth. Save the frames.

My wife works at Fabricland.

The only hope is to send those poor abused speakers to me for full restoration!

Well I did give them a good cleaning, they look and smell way  better all ready.  My tweeter fix is holding out, also have the called for 1 amp fuses in the fuse holders.  When I check the original fuses, there was a 2.5 amp and a 5 amp.  No wonder there was issues with the tweeters.
