Hi Folks, I'm simply trying to replace some of my vintage gear lost through divorce... I live in Northern Indiana (Warsaw, between South Bend and Fort Wayne) and am hoping to find someone who can do the Bill D upgrade for me when I buy another C-1 off of eBay or Facebook. I don't mind driving a couple hundred miles to deliver it and then pick it up. Of course it would be be really nice to find one for sale that already has the Bill D upgrade, but chances of that are slim! If anyone knows of someone within driving distance (or someone that I can ship it to) that can do the upgrade for me I would be most grateful. Thanks so much, Tom

And don't forget the simple velcro option. Particularly when the speaker grill is mounted inside a cabinet lip it can do the job nicely.

A speaker building friend of mine built a pair of bookshelf speakers for me and used magnets to mount the grills. He veneered right over the top of the magnets so you can't even see them. Very clean look. I'm beginning to think I may want to go simple this time. I usually over engineer the crap out of things. Grill pegs as mentioned above may be the way to go. I still need to build the speaker grill frame. One step at a time.

Try One Day Glass on the internet. I had some glass bases made for my Silver 9t's, (4) for around $185... I think.

This is the way the HK-50 is set up. Omnidirectional.

I have these HK-50's with a stone top. I don't know what they were thinking - to set a drink or potted plant? Anyway, a piece of stone or porcelain might be options as well.

Those look good the way they are but very cool with the glass.

I'm in no big hurry to get glass for it. I saw a pair of these speakers in San Diego and they had cut a thick piece of wood to fit in that area and then a normally priced piece of standard glass on top of that. Where it starts getting expensive is when you buy bronzed glass with polished edges.

Here's some pictures. The case with the plastic sheeting on it is in the process of being painted. The other case has not been painted and you can see the faint outline of where the old Velcro style tabs were located.

Be careful of wood selection. Solid wood can easily warp with weather changes. MDF is preferable for flat builds like this. If you use solid wood look for lumber that is quarter-sawn. If the lumber is laying flat on a table you want the grain lines vertical when looking at the end of the board. Avoid curved grain and horizontal grain. The species is secondary. Avoid getting a wide board and ripping several lengths from it. The tension in the board may be released and warp immediately or later. Good luck!
